Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

Thanks @monkey13

Although I’m class of 2020
I reread this TSU/Ithaca story today and this time it caused a flood of emotion being able to relate to it now - nearly at the end of this journey. Thanks for sharing this & all the wisdom along the way
you weren’t kidding
what a ride. And, it’s not quite over

@myloves I love her snapchat stories, as she very well knows! I want a cat so badly. We have three and I keep trying to get my mom to let me take one with me next year.

@destiny95 now that we’re Facebook friends I’m happy to help you out in any way I can!

Yay I just sent you a message! thanks girl

That kid that landed in Ithaca, as far as I know, is VERY happy there. So it all works out in the end.

Is anyone doing Summer Stock this summer? My daughter is doing an apprenticeship at Theatre Aspen. She will be playing Sophie in Mama Mia. Summer in Aspen should be beautiful, and we are hoping for a wonderful experience.
I would love to hear other people’s plans.

@Patrice13 - Yep - My D will be at Timberlake Playhouse in Illinois! My husband just informed me that he intends that we make the 8 hour drive out there for all 4 shows. Buckle up - gonna be a road trip kind of summer!! Congrats to your D - sounds like she has a great summer ahead!!

My D will be performing in South Africa this summer! She will be performing Songs for a New World at the South African National Arts Festival in Grahamstown as well as be going on Safari and visiting an elephant sanctuary. Sure wish I could drive to see all her shows. Ha! Unfortunately, the momma’s expenses are not covered to cheer the D on, so I will depend on video and plenty of photos. My friend is a professional photographer and has offered to give her a photography intensive before she travels this summer!

Nice, @addicted2MT! I love that show
and to do it in South Africa
how cool! Break legs to your D!

Wow amazing. Congrats all!
I’ll be in a audition based conservatory-theatre intensive this summer gaining extra college theatre credit. As well as taking a dance intensive in jazz tap and ballet. We have a CMU grad coming in to teach linklater movement workshops. At the end, we are putting on a fully produced scripted play that is entirely SILENT, and told with movement only. Super excited! (:

D will be in New Orleans doing two shows (Joseph and Millie) with the Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre. Turning 21 in New Orleans in June, oh to be a kid again!

Where the heck has this year gone?? D chose her room for next year today
how is it possible that they’re doing that already? We’ll get to see her in her last freshmen year production a month from today - and then move her home for summer a few days later. (DH and I are going to wander around So. Dakota/Mt. Rushmore for a few days during her finals.)

And she just found out she’ll be Stage Managing the summer main stage show in August
so she’ll go back to school 3 weeks early. :(( I’m bummed - shes thrilled!!

Freshmen year is almost in the can!

S will be in Fiddler this summer as Fyedka and TBD in Nice Work. His first paying gig! Also invited to audition for American Idiot and Cabaret by another local theatre. We will see. Looks like he will be busy at least.

D is waiting for results from several callback auditions so we are still in limbo. Freshman year went by so fast. College is 25% complete already? Doesn’t seem possible.

Amen, @gingersnap97 ! Doesn’t it seem as if our kids just made their Final Decisions?!? My D already signed a lease with her current roommates for sophomore year apartment. :open_mouth: She comes home for part of the summer in just about a month  Where did the time go?!? Well, I guess time flies when you’re having fun. My D absolutely loved her freshman year. Here’s wishing all a FANTASTIC sophomore year! I love keeping in touch with CC friends. Please keep posting what your kiddos are up to. We all survived audition season together. #:-S Let’s celebrate their journey as well! <:-P #CCMTclassof2019

I also can’t believe freshman year is almost over. We head up to watch the MT student’s Cabaret next weekend, then D comes home soon after for a brief visit before going to her first ever paying theatre job, summer stock in Georgria.

Getting that first theatre paycheck is a great moment!

Hello to the class of 2019
my D class of 2020 is deliberating an offer from Western Carolina University and I was wondering if any of you ended up there and your thoughts???

Have your kids gotten sick at school? My D got pretty sick this week (with flu-like symptoms) and being so far away from my baby felt awful. Thank goodness for her amazing roommates and her boyfriend who texted me updates and ran to get her liquids, crackers and over the counter meds! I’m sure glad this didn’t happen at the beginning of freshman year before she had bonded with her peers and roommates. I have to give it to her 2019 MT class. They sure pull together as a family and take care of each other through the tough times!

My son gets sick almost every time his shows close. It’s like he’s putting it off and putting it off and then boom.

Yes. My D got pneumonia last semester, her first in her freshman year. (I wrote about it before.) Her roommate, friends, professors, and administration were amazing–one of our first indications that UArts truly means it when they say they care about individual students and individual education.

We’ve had other proof of that this throughout the year (from D’s and others’ experiences), including just these past couple days, when D has been going through a very upsetting personal experience. Shortly after she found out about it, she went to ballet, and her teacher took her aside for at least 15 minutes, consoling her and offering her complete support. Also, her ballet classmates all arranged times to get together with her in the next days so she can be distracted.

I continue to be awed by her school and thankful for it.
