@pghmusician We’re assuming we won’t hear back until the new year! Yay more waiting…

@mtmom2015 so excited for the acceptance and passed pre-screen! Congrats!

What?? You mean they’re NOT working on Prescreens Xmas Eve??! They COULD work on them Christmas Day ya know. You open presents, you eat, you lie around all day trying to avoid uncle Stanley. Perfect time to sit on the couch thumbing Videos on Acceptd on your new iPad. College Reps? You listening here? Hello?

What a nice Xmas present that would be for the kids too!
That’s it. I’m starting a trend… #prescreensforChristmas.

@pghmusician As long as they don’t send out any denials on christmas. Could you imagine… You never know they could have already watched them but just want to give us a nice gift. #prescreensforchristmas

CONGRATS to your S @MTmom2015!!

Hey y’all. TNMTDAD here. Been watching and reading from a distance for a long time. Just want to say that if y’all have not considered Viterbo University, you should. We visited in 2014 with the intention of eliminating it from our list because of the distance from our home–12 hours. We couldn’t have been more wrong. It became our #1, passing OCU, Millikin, and Webster. We have completed 3 different visits to this campus so I have a ton of insight and information if anyone is interested. D auditioned on 12/6 for mt and vp. Our journey is over! She’s going to Viterbo, minimally majoring in vocal performance, but based on verbal feedback from those involved in the auditions, she will be MT Class of 2019 at Viterbo. Good luck. Hug those babies while they are still at home and keep reminding them that there is a bigger plan for their lives when there is what seems to be a huge disappointment. Feliz Navidad.

Friend of a friend’s D is a sophomore at Viterbo. It never crossed her mind until she did a walk-in at unifieds. She loves it!

Merry Christmas, everyone! “And God bless us, every one!”

@TNMTDAD Welcome to the Viterbo community! I, too, have been watching from a distance since my S decided on a Technical Theatre major, so I have been here learning about the process. I am a Viterbo alum and also a current graduate student at the school. We live in La Crosse. My S’s interview was also Dec. 6. I actually remember you and your daughter, even though we were only briefly together in the parent waiting area. (It would be hard not to remember her, she has an abundance of charisma.
)

My S and I came in later, when the current MT students were answering questions, and I waited there during his interview. So, send me a private message and I will be happy to answer any questions about the city that you may have and the school, in general. Have you checked out the Weber Center, either in person or online? It is absolutely gorgeous. Happy New Year!

@peintre, we remember you, too. That weekend of Dec. 6 was the best weekend of 2014. We had such a blessed time auditioning at Viterbo, seeing The Rotary Lights at Riverside Park, and hearing Handel’s Messiah sung in Mary of The Angels Chapel and The Fine Arts Center. We just can’t say enough good things about Viterbo University and La Crosse, WI. It is a complete and utter love fest for us. It is a SPECIAL place, full of wonderful people. It is such an answer to prayer that our daughter will be mentored and trained in that environment. We are looking forward to the next 4 years and plan to visit La Crosse often. Thank you so much for your welcome. I wish all on this forum a blessed 2015 and hope that everyone on this journey finds that perfect fit that gives you peace and fulfillment. For us, that is Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI.

Hello, Class of 2019 warriors…I’m the mom of a Class of 2018 survivor. My D’s difficult road is well-chronicled on CC. For a lucky few, your journey may be over, but for most, the days ahead will be challenging, to say the least. Hang in there…this awful process has a way of working out. My D is at Molloy/CAP 21, and loves it! The training is top-drawer and in the heart of NYC, the Molloy theater is amazing, and the kids are one heck of a talented bunch. If you haven’t considered us, you should… i bless the day I learned of this program…on CC!

Hi there, @TNMTDAD! I’m a Viterbo MT freshman and an old-time CC poster (mostly from when I was gearing up for college auditions as a high school student, but I posted a little as I went through the process as a high school senior for the Class of 2017 and a transfer student for the Class of 2018), and I’ve been lurking a little lately as I’ve been on break. Mostly I’ve been waiting for my work schedule to quiet down so I can resurrect the Freshman Experience thread and post about what it’s like to be a freshman at Viterbo as of late–the program has gone through some faculty changes and curriculum restructuring in the past few years.

I’m so glad that your daughter is going to be joining us next fall! I remember you and your family from your tour and from your audition trip (and from my screen name, you can probably guess which student rep I was as well)! Your praise for our school is so heartwarming. I certainly didn’t have as much first-hand information as you when I committed to Viterbo MT–I hadn’t even visited (logistics got in the way)! Now that I’ve been there for a semester, though, I can’t imagine being anywhere else. As Janet McLean, who you met at the audition, often says, “No one does hospitality better than Viterbo,” and I wholeheartedly agree. I’m in the company of consummate professionals (not just my instructors, but my peers as well) who truly care about one another, and there’s no better environment to be stretched and grow than that one. Of course, with it being the holiday season, the one thing that comes up around the coffee table is “How is school?” And lately, my answer has been “I feel like I’ve learned more about performing in the past four months than I did in the past five years of my life.” Viterbo’s a really special place.

Anyway, I’ll come back soon and share more information about the program for anyone who is interested (in the meantime, feel free to PM me), but once again, TNMTDAD, congratulations to you and your daughter for having made a decision this early in the process. What a great Christmas present, and what a weight off your shoulders! Have a wonderful rest of the holiday :)

Hola, @CanadianMTgirl. We most certainly remember you, too. Haha. I am sure it was difficult for you to visit schools because of your mom’s aversion to flying. ; ) Thank you so much for the welcome, and we will pm you later for questions. We are so excited about the next chapter, and knowing that Viterbo is where those pages will be written, makes us giddy. I know that “special” may seem like an underwhelming superlative for a school, but I think it’s perfect! When a school goes out of its way to make you feel like one-in-a-million, regardless of your talent, it makes an impression. I will never forget the first time that we set foot on campus. No one there knew anything about us. We had not developed a profile at Get Acceptd. We were just a father and daughter from TN, coming to check out the 5th and final school on our list during my daughter’s junior year of high school. We were given the most informative and extensive tour of the university by two mt students. To our surprise, the school arranged for a private voice lesson with the amazing Karla Hughes. When we ate lunch in the caf, students just kept coming up to meet us, some even pulled up a chair at our table to talk to us at length. We stayed for the production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, which was amazing! Viterbo’s facilities are posh, and you can only know that if you visit the campus. But, above all of this, what stood out the most to us was how every facet of the university seemed to reflect the school’s mission statement. From the janitor vacuuming in the hall, who stopped to smile and greet us, to random students going to class who did the same, everyone went out of his or her way to make us feel welcome. When we came back for our second visit with my wife, who was still not a believer and not convinced to let our daughter go to school 12 hours away from home, we witnessed more of the same, even sitting down to talk to the president, Dr. Artman. On our way home, my wife, who is a college Spanish Professor, said, “Ok. Y’all were right. Viterbo is amazing, and I have been shamed by this level of hospitality,” referring to how the university where she is employed treats prospectives compared to the kindness that we had just been shown. Thought I would put this out there for anyone on CC before Unifieds begin in 2015. It’s still not too late to sign up to audition at Unifieds or on campus. Blessings to you in the new year and save travels back to school in January.

Hi guys!
I don’t want to overcrowd the Viterbo train here, but I would also love to add a comment about my wonderful school.
@TNMTDAD, we’re so glad that your daughter will be joining us! I, too, was so unbelievably impressed by Viterbo’s hospitality that it was what kept Viterbo at the top of my list.
I am a BFA Acting Major at Viterbo, and roommates with CanadianMTGirl. (Small world, huh?)
In my short time at Viterbo I have learned so much about acting, about myself, and about theatre as a whole. Viterbo is an amazing environment to be in everyday; I absolutely love it. Our students and faculty are the most amazingly talented group of people you will ever meet. I’m blown away everyday that I get to be in the midst of people THIS talented, and even more blown away that I get to call them my friends, teachers, co-artists, collaborators, and family. I cannot say enough about Viterbo and it’s amazing training. I’ll ramble for days.
Something my friends and I say a lot is “Why isn’t Viterbo more well-known? It’s SO GOOD.” We have some very successful alumni out there doing some amazing things. Even as a freshman, I can confidently say that Viterbo prepares theatre students for the real world. I have one semester under my belt, and I am no where near ready to hit the professional theatre world, but I know for a fact that at the end of my four years I will be.
I cannot say enough about Viterbo, so if anyone has any questions please ask myself or CanadianMTGirl. I’d love for Viterbo to be more well-known in the College Confidential world. It deserves to be.
If it’s not on your list already, do a walk-in at Unifieds. I promise you won’t regret it! :)

Hi all!
I just wanted to remind everyone how important being polite and humble is at an audition. I can tell you from working auditions at my own school what can happen when someone opens their mouth in a negative way. One of the kids auditioning decided to go up to what he thought was a student worker and made a rude “joke” about how she looked overworked, not knowing that he was actually talking to one of the heads of our program. I can tell you that the rejection box was checked off before the boy even walked into the audition room. It is not just about talent, a kid can be the most talented person at an audition but if one wrong thing is overheard by the wrong person then it doesn’t matter how many turns they can do and how high they can belt, they won’t even be considered. Remind your kids to also be gracious to the student workers because many times the workers are approached by faculty and asked about how the kids acted outside of the audition room.
Lastly I would just like to let the parents know that your behavior is also taken into consideration at an audition. There is no reason that a parent should be putting their ears to the doors of the audition room, and pushing past workers to see their kid do the dance call. Faculty can view this as unprofessional and obnoxious.
Sorry for such a negative post, but I thought everyone may like an inside view on how their kids are being considered for more than just their talent. I hope everyone has a great audition season and I hope to see many of your kids at auditions! <3

Great info about schools and etiquette
Question…Walkins @ Unifieds…do u have to have already applied to the schools? How do walk ins work? Thanks for any info!!

@tmygirl - each school handles walk-ins differently. You will need to check with each one.
I would recommend that you have a copy of your transcript accessible as well as whatever other info you need to complete an application, in case you need to apply quickly. Also make sure you have some form of payment they will accept for application/audition fees if any are charged. And of course, extra copies of head shots and resumes. If the school participates in the common app, hopefully you will already be on there and have the bulk of the application already completed. I do know some who filled out applications on the spot or just after their auditions. Good luck!

@vvnstar, for walk-ins, do you know if being asked to complete an application generally means you have a good chance of acceptance, or do they ask everyone who walks in to complete the application?

In my (very limited) experience, they ask everyone to fill out an application. And many ask you to pay the audition fee (if there is one) when you audition- bring your checkbook…
