WSU is rolling
Ithaca seems to have an interesting (and unpredictable) timetable. I knew someone who got a yes right away after unifieds (for BFA acting) as well as the no I mentioned earlier. After that things seemed to happen kind of randomly with both noâs and yesses popping up at odd moments. If I recall correctly- the 1st clue that a no was coming was that your âmyithacaâ (Or whatever their online portal was called- too many to remember!) account was disabled. Then a letter came via snailmail.
Which brings up yet another task you may want to complete. 1st the âmasterâ list of all accounts/passwords for various schools. I knew someone last year who was delayed finding out a decision to a favorite school b/c they couldnât remember the login, and it took time for tech dept to reset. Thankfully, it was a yesâŠbut that was a LONG 24 hours for them!! Then a list (from website or CC knowledge) of how various schools notify. For example- as jkelly mentions, Syracuse is a bizarre wave thing, you have to check every Friday- finally your status changes, and you open a letter on the computer (which in my Dâs case was a âcongratulationsâ- it was her 1st acceptance, and Soozie is right- you donât forget the 1st- it was when I took my 1st real breath in about 6 months!) Anyway- yet another chart to make, so you know which accounts to refresh like a madperson when the time comes, or when to stalk the mailbox (and I have a soft spot for the schools who still do the big envelope- nostalgia), or wait by the phoneâŠ
The advice about saving all the passwords/loginsâŠgood! I recall one year, a client of mine had heard that the BOCO decisions were out but they didnât have the right information to log on and get the results. It was agonizing for them. Turns out the boy got in and attended!
Sometimes the fact that there is a lot of information out there, can drive you nutty. It is great that people share hereâŠtruly TRULY! But then, you hear decisions are out and you donât get one, for example. More angst than if you didnât know that information!! I recall in my Dâs year, everyone was posting that CMU decisions were posted online, both acceptances and rejections, all on the same day. We checked my Dâs page for CMU and there was no decision for several days. We didnât know what to think. It turns out she was Priority Waitlisted and those few students were notified in writing a few days after the other decisions went out. Who knew? Well, back then I didnât, but I do now! Also, when my D heard from Syracuse, she got a call from them. We had no idea that could happen. So, in so many ways, it helps to know as much information as possible, but at other times, the knowledge that this one or that one has heard but you havenât, can drive ya crazy. Try not to read anything into it!!
^Agreed. It does create more angst when you know some have been admitted and you have not yet heard. Angst that probably would not exist if you were ignorant of the process. And sometimes these things happen. One personâs academic stuff may not quite be in order, one auditioned later, the mailroom staff left early that day⊠more info does lend itself to more stress. But I am the person who has to know all I can. I trust myself not to read too much into anything other than the decision itself. But I still wanna know.
I would suggest staying off CC to avoid any angst - it is inevitable if you are here!
In an effort to have my S âownâ the process, he set up everything on Acceptd, Decision Desk, and in his applications under his e-mail address. As a result I have none of his logon or password information and have to beg him for info! I think we should have created an âapplication onlyâ e-mail so I could find out things. Begging for information from an 18 year old can drive you nuts!
@MTDadandProudâ My S owned his process. I did not have his log-in information or permission to open his mail. For us, it was the right thing. He was able to see and process each decision first. I did not think it would be fair for me to access his accounts; he wanted to be the "first to know. " I admit it was maddening when I knew certain decisions were posted and he took his time checking in :-).
@MTDadandProudâ - My D created an audition/college application email with a professional (rather than cute/funny) email address for all of this correspondence. She and I share ALL user names and passwords. She will continue to use this address for professional purposes once this crazy process is over. I highly recommend this to all. More often than not I find things out before she does, and as I donât want to spoil any pleasant surprises, I just shoot her a text saying âYouâve Got Mailâ and she knows thereâs some good news waiting for her. I imagine when the first negative email arrives Iâll text her âUgh, youâve got mailâŠâ
My D owns the process, I own the tuition, so we are halfsies on the passcodes. ;
We had a couple rules about decisions, which I tried really hard to respect. One was that the kid would get to open all decisions. I had the master list, but she opened emails, checked portals etc. Yet another reason to like the big envelopes - the one from muhlenberg (one of her BA safeties) said âYou got inâ- made it pretty simple!
We got the âbig envelopeâ from Penn State on christmas eve!
It said âthank for your interest, but we are unable to accept youâ⊠and âBut please consider one of our many other programs. Weâve included our complete academic guide to help you decideâ.
Donât trust big envelopes from PSU.
^I can see you are working for that double Manhattan.
maybe⊠And donât mix posts trams, youâll just confuse everyone. lol
Is PPU still doing the call back process (that they donât want anyone to refer to as a call back)? Where applicants sent upstairs to sing again?
After doing his 2 songs, my S was told to get in another line where he sang a 3rd song. It was on that floor above the cafeteria. But all the singing was up there.
My kidâs first envelope, a real big one with the bells and whistles was from Emerson and all the excitement of being admitted to Emerson, until we read the fine print that she was deferred (this was EA) for the BFA itself. It was a lot of excitement over nothing and we felt let down and silly about our initial reaction to the big envelope!
We had a big envelope from U Minn which was an academic acceptance (about a week after she submitted) Since it was more than 3 months to her Guthrie audition she didnât get too excitedâŠ
That mail we were hoping for before the holidays? Yep, still waiting for it⊠Anyone else?
Do you feel like Dory from Finding Nemo? âKeep on âWaitingââŠKeep on âWaitingââŠâ
Hereâs a good one. We received this email from Point Park today:
âGavin, join our Class of 2019 Facebook group to connect with future classmates and current students!
This group is EXCLUSIVELY for Point Parkâs Class of 2019. Meet friends in your major, post questions, find roommates, share your excitement â itâs all about you!â
What would you make of this?
Keep in mind he hasnât received an acceptance letter of any kind yet. lol
