Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

I would say you should expect an academic acceptance. PPU is particularly assertive in trying to get academic admits involved. This would not be an indication at all of an artistic decision… there were no “clues” before we got acceptance. And artistic acceptance doesn’t come in a big envelope - so don’t automatically assume a small unassuming envelope from PPU is bad news.

Another reminder that size doesn’t (always) matter. D got a very small envelope from her top choice school (Northwestern) containing happy ED information, but it had mom on edge while I waited for her to get home and open it. She also got several large envelopes which I personally preferred for their sheer excitement factor… plus they usually contained lots of glossy pictures to peruse (and later recycle).

Sending “yes” thoughts to all of you waiting for news and auditions!

pghmusician - I think son received the same email prior to his academic acceptance. He was kept dangling until mid-April to learn his artistic fate (it was a no after wait list).

we got the same email today—my daughter hasnt auditioned yet

S gets Texas State mail almost weekly… Welcome to the Texas State family… He was academically accepted, but he didn’t pass the pre-screen. Twist that knife, TSU…

I got in contact with 2 schools where D was academically admitted and artistically declined (and she knew she was not interested in other programs at the school) and asked them to stop contact. One was kinda snarky about it …

D received notice that she did not pass the pre-screen for Baldwin Wallace in early December, but has continued to receive emails about “missing items” from her application, all of which were submitted in early November! D sent a polite email asking them to stop. We found this very odd, but chalked it up to first year pre-screen bugs.

Actually… For most schools the academic and artistic sides of the admission process don’t seem to communicate well. Just another hazard of this crazy process.

Make it clear to schools that have offered academic admission but rejected him artistically that your child will not be attending. If they persist, just block the email address of any school you have ruled out or that has ruled you out.

When my daughter was not accepted artistically at Elon and Penn State, she contacted both admissions offices and withdrew her applications. We have not received any emails or mail from either since we did that. Elon had a simple button that said withdraw application and for Penn State she sent a nice email and they sent her a reply acknowledging her request. Very civilized. Mind you – neither of these schools had admitted her academically yet, so maybe that’s why it was easier?

@Divamamacita, glad to see that your daughter did that herself–those messages to schools should definitely come from the senior and not from mom or dad. And as kategrizz points out, theater programs and admissions offices don’t always communicate well, so it’s not that weird to keep getting messages…even from the admissions office after you have declined an acceptance. In July after senior year, my son was still getting letters exhorting him to attend a school that accepted him–and kept offering bigger academic scholarships–even though he had been declined artistically and had sent several “no, thanks” messages via email and snail mail. The junk mail is frustrating to deal with, but it’s pretty normal, unfortunately.

It’s halfway through my D’s freshman year of college and emails are STILL coming from Roosevelt trying to recruit. (I assume these are academic recruitment - since she never applied/auditioned for them and they know nothing of her artistically.)

It feels good to promptly “unlike” any school that does not artistically accept you on Facebook. Its also very mature. :))

My D is a sophomore at Ithaca, and she STILL gets both emails reminding her to sign up for classes, etc., and bills (yes, bills) from a college she never, ever got an official artistic response from. She has politely asked them to remove her email from their list, but they haven’t. Gosh, maybe they’ll give her the diploma, and she can have two!

I had mentioned contacting a school (the one that was snarky) - I should have mentioned that I contacted them AFTER my daughter already had- twice.

Question… Anyone know which schools do ‘interviews’? vs the schools which have the auditioners do song, song, mono, goodbye?

I have limited info as she has only had 2 auditions so far, BW and Hartt. BW did not have any interview component (at least for my D) and Hartt did ask several questions after she had performed her songs/monologue.

BU, Montclair, and Chapman held interviews after the monologues…at least they did for my daughter last year.

NYU asked questions (about studios) CMU chatted for quite a while (but she went through to Barabara, idk if it was standard) and Syracuse had an interview

Ithaca asked some questions, Penn State if you are asked to stay for interview and James Madison
