Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

Otterbein does an extensive interview.
Actually, when my son auditioned two years ago, the only school that didn’t do much talking was Hartt–they specifically said they would be in a hurry and not conducting real interviews. It was an “Any questions for us?” kind of thing. The most substantial conversations for him were Otterbein, Ithaca, and BU, but everybody spent at least a little time talking to him after the audition.

^Yes, the Otterbein interview/adjustment session pretty much sealed the deal as being a favorite for son, as well as the time he spent with Coastal Carolina.

What sort of questions for Ithaca? About yourself? Or about specifics regarding your interest in Ithaca?

I think it really depends on the day (how rushed they are) and location (Unifieds vs. on-campus), who is auditioning you, and maybe even the kid. My D got NO questions from Ithaca when she auditioned on campus (she’s an MT student there now) - she was asked to do adjustments on her monologue, but she was asked NOTHING. She got lots of questions from Penn State and CMU at Unifieds - other kids got no questions at Penn State (although I don’t know anyone who wasn’t asked something at CMU…). I think someone mentioned that Syracuse asked their kid questions…when my D auditioned there, there were 2 rooms of auditions going simultaneously. The room my D was in not only asked NO questions, but they never even looked up at her. Not once. They flipped through papers and scrawled notes the entire time. And everyone else she talked to had the same experience with that room. Kids in the other room were asked questions. (BTW, she was WL at Syracuse, so it wasn’t that they hated her. She laughed when she got the WL letter…she said, “How do they even know who I am? They never saw me.”) I guess this is a long winded way of saying you don’t know who is going to ask questions, what type of questions they will ask, or whether it means anything. Be prepared for anything - lots of questions or no questions - and don’t read anything into any of it. You can get it with absolutely no questions asked, and you can be asked questions for 30 minutes and be rejected outright.

What monkey13 said is so true. My daughter had NO discussion at Ithaca. She got in. So, there likely is no pattern to this. I recall some “talk” at NYU, Syracuse, Penn State, Emerson, CMU.

BW was the only program that had no discussion with my S after his auditions, its also the only one he got a no from…for what its worth. Every story is different.

By the way, for CMU, besides the on campus audition, my daughter had a personal interview with an admissions officer from the university who came to our state. D was Priority Waitlisted at CMU.

When my daughter auditioned at PP, they told everyone (I was in the room and heard it) that after the initial audition there would be a callback, and if you weren’t called back, it was over, and you weren’t getting in. Inotherwords, rejected. Done. Over. My daughter was called back. She thought the callback went spectacularly: she felt she sang as best she could, and they were all smiles and super-friendly. Then they asked her a lot of questions about her goals, etc. and when she left they said things like “It was SO nice meeting you!” She told me later she didn’t think it could have gone better. PS: She didn’t get in. No waiting list, nothing (and it was early in the audition season). Her friend, who was at the same audition yet didn’t get a CB (so no questions), got in. So you just never know.

Fingers crossed for everyone gearing up for auditions at Millikin next Monday, Jan 19. BAL. We had a really good visit there–fond memories. If you haven’t booked a hotel, Fairfield Inn in Forsythe, IL is nice and near everything.

BAL also to the University of Michigan auditioners on 1/16. Anyone else have auditions this weekend?

@MTmom2015 We have Michigan next weekend. We are going to TSU this weekend. anyone else going to TSU this weekend?

@Patrice13 We will also be at UofM on 1/23 (we have friends auditioning this weekend). We are lucky… We live just 45 minutes from campus. No hotel or major travel for this one.

@MTmom2015 We live a long plane ride away! I hope to meet you there.

Elon just set out a wave of pre-screen acceptances for on campus auditions. No idea how many but I know of a few.

Just got ours yesterday! Thanks Elon!
… Take THAT BW! :stuck_out_tongue:

Congrats!

Passed Elon yay! Anyone else auditioning 2/27?

My son is auditioning for Elon on 2/27. It was odd. He had received a callback invitation on October 31st and then again yesterday.

My S will be auditioning 2/27 at Elon. He passed the PS back in the fall, but got an email this week verifying that he is still coming. I figured it had to do with the new passes and scheduling.

MTLegacy and MTmom2015, same here. :-?
