Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

Got the same thing from PPU here today too. And same reaction! Wanted to have at least an audition or two before Chicago. Rushed, forgot his change of clothes and sang in his dance tights. lol

@herewegomom How was the audition at CMU today?

@pghmusician It went well. She saw everyone there and felt great about it. Off to NY Unifieds next weekend.

If anyone is auditioning at Wright State tomorrow, D will be working auditions.

@MTmom2017 we’ll be there. PM me.

@TNMTDAD my S auditioning @ Millikin on 1/19. Good to hear about hotel. That is where we booked. I haven’t been able to find an estimate on how many usually audition there. Did they give you any numbers during your visit? Also, how was the exit interview? Thanks for any info

Getting everything ready for NYC Unifieds and printing final resumes. Can anyone tell me if the resume should be cut down to an 8 x 10 and stapled to back of headshot or is it better to keep as 8 1/2 x 11 and just handed to the auditors separately. I know this is probably a small thing, but just wondering before a cut them all down. Thanks for any info!

8 x 10. Some schools want them staples; some do not. See if it specifies on the school’s individual website.

None of my son’s schools cared about the resume size, and a few actually specified NO staples…in case that helps!

Wozmom, we pulled out of the audition tomorrow, but I do know that the audition tomorrow is totally booked. At least that’s what we were told from the representative, who was very gracious and kind about us canceling our audition slot after we settled on Viterbo. I must say Millikin was classy, wishing my D the best in her artistic endeavors–nice touch. I would expect about 15 to 20 tomorrow, but I could be completely wrong. Someone else on CC might have more first-hand knowledge. I do know that that the kids audition in front of each other so prepare for that. Based on our conversation from our visit in November of 2013 during my D’s junior year, they will sit down with you and your child and tell you for which program your child has been admitted before you leave. I get the feeling that they minimally try to find a “place” for everyone, although that may not be MT. Denise, one of the MT profs is soooo nice. BAL.

Sorry to hear that, @MTRaleighmom… Hoping great news is on the horizon!

I was also curious about CMU. I did hear that Wright State was a terrific experience and Joe Deer has an impressive program

What is everyone’s thoughts on thank you cards and e-mails to those who have you have auditioned for…send an e-mail and a written thank you card or either/or. Thanks!

My daughter does handwritten notes to the auditors. Not that it’s helped. :((

Wishing you and all of your brave thespian babies safe and successful travels… We leave tomorrow for my D’s top school audition…Wish it was later in the game, so she would have a little more experience under her belt…praying our stars align, and she will shine… I am nauseas and anxiety ridden… Trying to keep it together, and not give bad advice or add any negative vibes to something so very important and exciting… It’s really happening!

BAL to all auditioning this weekend!

Break legs Pookie! Try not to focus on the result and import of the audition, and instead on making your daughter comfortable, hydrated, fed, and well-rested. You worry about timing and logistics. Let her focus on the details of the audition,(in her control) and remind her not to think about the result or how it is received (out of her control). It is truly her stage, her moment, and her time. It does not belong to the auditors. So don’t let them “steal” it. And remember, she’s done probably dozens of auditions in her young life. She knows what she is doing!

Anyone else out there worry they have the type of kid that comes across as OK in a one-one-one audition but transforms and lights up when she hits the stage? and that the auditors won’t pick up on that?

@addicted2MT - That’s something I’ve wondered about as well, as our D is uncharacteristically quiet for an MT kid, but so far it seems to be working out. Maybe our kids have learned to experience even a small audition room as a true performance?

Sending good thoughts to all of you who are heading out for auditions!

I know, its really difficult to resist the temptation to mail DVD’s of her five best shows to all the auditors, right?

:)) This emoticon refuses to laugh - though I have tried to edit him!

But I think they believe its their job to polish the gem, and most of them believe they are pretty good at it!
