@MTheaterMom – JMU does not have a blanket policy of providing OOS tuition waivers for admitted freshmen, like some schools do. However, each school does have a few scholarships to offer that can bring down the OOS tuition by 1/4 to 1/2. They are competitive, however. Things change a bit from year to year at JMU, so it is good to ask again of the major to see what may be available that year.
For those in this year’s admissions cycle…to quote Les Mis…One Day More!
@soozievt I hope it is really only one day more. Hartt says first week in April!! What is that all about?!! We shall see!!
@soozievt I wish it was only one day more. My D still has an audition on Sunday at Rowan and is waiting to hear from Fairleigh Dickinson (auditioned BA), Saint Joseph’s (non-auditioned BA), Emory & Henry (auditioned BFA, but had to send video audition), and then Rowan (auditioned BA). We might still have two more weeks…
WOW!! Best wishes for all!!
Anyone waiting for NYU?
Honestly, if a school doesn’t reply with a decision by April 1, that isn’t right (in my opinion). The National Reply Date for a student to commit to a school is May 1. A month to have all cards in hand to make that decision is fair. I am not counting wait lists.
My D heard yesterday that she should hear from her last school in 2 weeks…think a decision will be made long before then!
@soozievt To be fair to the schools, they are rolling admission or late application deadline schools that my D applied to late in the process. I’m grateful that she has some more options. And two of them so far she is very excited about.
@mtmamma2020 We are!
We’re waiting on NYU also…
@soozievt I called Hartt on Monday since the portal changed to Decided and listed MT for my daughter. I was told everything was going out this week and that the portal just meant they made a decision, not necessarily that the decision was a yes. Maybe today’s mail.
It is not surprising to me to NOT have heard from some schools YET. But schools truly should be sending out decisions by April 1. A lot of colleges notify today and tomorrow. That is common. After April 1, is not too common.
I see that the NYU decisions are out…in past years, there has been a LOT of confusion about the studios…
In past years, it worked like this: if you checked that you would ONLY be interested in MT (New Studio Broadway), and you get in, you are in New Studio Broadway (the MT studio). But if you did not check that “only MT” box, then you will get your studio assignment in about two weeks. Is it working the same way this year? I just don’t want anyone assuming they got into MT if they didn’t…I remember some devastated kids when they got their studio assignment and it wasn’t what they thought…
If they are doing it differently this year, someone correct me!
NYU baby! yay!!! and Ouch!!!
NYU yes today! S applied for MT New Studio on Broadway only as opposed to all studios. He was very pleased!
We know a boy you got a yes from NYU yesterday. I wonder if his parents are in sticker shock today?? LOL
Any word on how much financial aid or scholarship nyu is giving this year? My D is wait listed and it will only be a consideration if they can bridge some of the gap between our Efc and the cost to attend.
It may be a little premature for this, I know we’re not the only ones waiting on initial decisions, but by any chance has anyone been taken off any waitlists and given an admission? I read somewhere that some schools, like Coastal Carolina, do that pretty early. We’re lucky to have some great “yes” schools to choose from. She’s also waitlisted at 5 more incredible programs. Is it possible to have a full picture before May 1st or is that always after May 1?
@SingerDancerMom my d is on the wait list at 2 schools and I was told there would be no movement until May 5. The coach we worked with said there is often quite a bit of movement from some mid tier programs.
