@WTXMom - another way to buy some time to make a decision - usually if you’ve been waitlisted - you don’t have financial aid info yet - and so you can also blame not being able to make a quick decision on needing to review the financials. That is what we did the year my D came off a WL that she wasn’t just ready to say YES to that day. (She did, eventually, say yes - but she needed time to process it as a choice! AND we really did need to review the financials!)
@kategrizz - actually, she has already gotten merit scholarship & out-of-state tuition waivers based on her academic application, and he included an amount for artistic $ in the email as well… Gah! They haven’t responded to her email yet, and it’s only 2.25 hours until 5 pm, so we are hoping silence is acquiescence? Guess we will find out.
Thank you! See my intention is to possibly commit there so I can continue my training, and if I end up not enjoying my time there re auditioning for programs next year.
I am on the waitlist for Utah and Marymount though, but my mom and I are unsure about whether Utah is going to be affordable if I get off the waitlist considering its in a very touristy area.
Have you looked at Utah’s estimated Cost of Attendance @allthatjazz12345? I think SLC is perhaps one of the less expensive college towns, at least in the western states. In addition, out-of-state students can obtain in-state status after one year while attending the U and in-state tuition is very affordable. You have to make sure you get your residency paperwork in but it isn’t cumbersome by any means. I think I read somewhere on this board that MT students have been given in-state tuition for the first year as well, in the form of a scholarship. If you are really interested, it may be worth a visit if you haven’t done so. It would show your interest for sure. But classes are wrapping up all over so you are running against the clock. Good luck!
@HappyDancer98 what school is SLC? Thanks!
SLC stands for Salt Lake City.
@Mel2421 SLC stands for Salt Lake City
I think SLC stands for Salt Lake City – not a school, the town.
Ok Thanks! @vvnstar
Salt Lake City
“Hello!” “I Believe” she means “Sal Tlay Ka Siti” :))
Just keeping this MT.
@Mel2421 I think SLC is Salt Lake City - University of Utah.
Oh, sorry @Mel2421. I was referring to Salt Lake City, where the University of Utah is located. It’s not tourist-y at all although t it is about 30 minutes from Park City, which is very tourist-y!
One year of oos tuition then in state for 3 years makes Utah a very affordable option. My daughter had stats that would have given her good academic merit if she had applied by December 1, but that they weren’t on our radar. It has all worked out fine in terms of tuition. Rent in SLC is not cheap and there is a housing crunch. My daughter has paid an average of $500 a month plus utilities and groceries. It also became obvious, despite a very good public transportation system, that a car was needed to pursue outside theatre opportunities.
Good one @soozievt !!!
Do most chose CMU over MICH or MICH over CMU? Is there a general consensus as to which is better?
@MT16Actor - I would say that you can’t go wrong with either CMU or Michigan - both are renowned programs with a LONG track record of success. I would think that a student choosing between them would be looking more at fit or gut feeling than anything else. As to “better” - I don’t think you could ever get a consensus (general or otherwise), it’s a personal preference thing.
@MT16Actor actually I’d say “most” don’t get that choice but if u did, congrats!!
I know this is the MT forum, but the Theater/Drama threads are very quiet, but I have been following along with all the results here, and I wanted to finally share good news.
My D has been obsessed with Stage Management for the past four years and we started early and put so much work into finding a BFA program for her. She goes to a non PA high school that gave us no help except to say that (looking at her academic stats) she should have no trouble getting into a program. Doing this all on our own, we made every mistake in the book, including missing about 2/3rds of the programs (listed as design/production and not specifically stage management) and initially only applying to one BFA program. Needless to say our early results were not good, but I discovered CC about February and was brought up to speed. I also want to give a big shout out to Interlochen to whom we reached out to in desperation - they were incredibly gracious with their help and time.
The results came in last night - acceptance into the Otterbein BFA program in Theater Design and Production! Even with coming late to the party, I think this school would have been one of her top two choices, so kids really do end up where they are meant to be. As noted elsewhere on here, the faculty was incredibly kind and helpful during the portfolio review and visit. We haven’t received financial information yet, so I can’t announce a decision, but I’m sure you all can relate to the relief and happiness in our house today. And to keep this MT, that is her favorite genre to stage manage, so I hope she will be working with a few of your children soon.
