@surrender- I ran lines last night via facetime, it doesn’t always end
Happy to hear that @toowonderful, technology has made such things possible! A world of difference from when I would call home once a week from the payphone in the dorm hallway
Thank you @KaMaMom !! Hopefully those words helped her a little bit. The Arts are such a wonderful, amazing, joyous, brutal, awful, heartbreaking field to be in. It is a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs. And a support team is needed for the ride!
@Joyfulmama your post made me weepy. I hope she’s feeling a little better today - those calls are SO hard (on the kids and their parents!). Brings up the old “who can I beat up for you” instincts!
@mom4bwayboy I can relate. My oldest is a boy and doesn’t call or write much (unless it involves $$)! I do text him now and then and remind him that 3 unanswered text messages turn into a howler (for all the Harry Potter fans!). Every now and then he calls out of the blue - usually when he’s driving to a job or to an off-campus rehearsal - and I’ll get myself up to date! I have those moments of panic, too - are you EVEN ALIIIVVVEE – but have to figure no news is good news! We are fortunate enough to live close to campus (and I work even closer) so will now and then pop out and take him for food. No boy can resist the draw of good food!!
Food and boys always seem to go together. Taking emergency supplies tonight to S whose meal plan has “run out”. Hopefully he’ll have the energy to mumble a few words to H and me as we load up a few items from his apartment before the student production he wrote/directed (curtain time 11 pm). Can’t believe another year is almost at end.
My older girls only call when I change the HBOgo and Hulu passwords.
^ ^ ^ ^ THIS =))
I’m so fortunate, my soon to be Junior who is stage managing her first show face timed me from the booth for the entire show! I got to witness her calling hundreds of cues and do her magic. She was in her element and was willing to share that with me. (And I didn’t even ask!) <3 She is my “Rory” for sure
Has anyone heard anything about Ithaca’s waitlist, by any chance?
@SammieMT, they have gone to the WL…so a few have come off.
@artskids Thank you, yes she is doing better. She picked herself up that night and went to two dance classes and reminded herself she loves dancing! Also as God is so good, on Friday she randomly ran into one of her friends who is one of her dance idols. This woman has major dance gigs and here she was sharing with my daughter that she had recently been passed over for a big job and was feeling a little lost. They talked for along time and it reminded my daughter that she is not alone in having these moments. And no matter what level performer, they all feel down after the no’s.
Carnegie Mellon versus Northwestern?! What is the best option/choice? Looking for insight and advice, thank you!!
@complacent you can’t go wrong either way. Very different programs though so whatever you want from a program should guide you. CMU doesn’t have a ton of academics required for the bfa and is in a conservatory like setting that is located at a great university. Northwestern is also a great university and offers a BA with more academic requirements and more flexibility with the courses you may want to take outside of drama. As CMU is a set bfa degree they follow a pretty strict curriculum and it is a very rigorous and focused program. Northwestern is obviously a fabulous school but the degree is different - not better or worse - just different. So what do you want in terms of academics, electives, etc?
good luck. You are so lucky to have two fabulous choices. You will do great either way
Goodness, I’m going to give a very politically incorrect answer here: Carnegie Mellon!!! It is considered by most to be the top MT program in the country. Unless it is a TERRIBLE fit for you for some reason or there is a huge financial difference, it would be a no brainer for most.
@Calliene @bfahopeful
But maybe not:)
Will add that if you got accepted to both programs then you really have to look at what you want outside of the MT part from what you want from the University, that will depend on what you want from the academic programs of each. I believe bfahopeful covered this in her posts:)
CMU unless you really want that big college overall education. If mt is the plan – CMU
@bisouu: That is so sweet! My D1 is a techie (altho only for fun) and I would love to see her work. You’re fortunate!
