Yes, the dorms at Montclair are awesome! And some have amazing views of the Manhattan skyline.
@theaterwork- I have said that for years. Nothing beats the thrill of seeing “the big envelope”
ok so funny story, after the text from D saying BA acting redirect from LIU, the letter comes today, in a very translucent
envelope, that clearly says BFA acting. So definitely counting that as a win!
My D auditioned last year - 10 programs and was accepted into 4. Acceptances were staggered. One in early Feb, one in early March, one in late March and one not until mid May (she had been wait-listed). I felt it was such a stressful process but I am glad it is what it is. First, you really get to see if your child is truly as talented as you think they are. I always worried that I was not objective when viewing my daughter’s talent level … she seemed great to me - but it seemed all the parents felt that way about their kids. I knew her pursuing a MT degree would most likely take her out of state where tuition/room/board is outrageous even after scholarships. If we were going to invest that kind of money, I wanted to make sure she could hold her own with her peers at the college level. Second, it allowed me to watch my daughter go after something she cared about. She had a bad early audition in November and came home from that and worked with a personal trainer on her fitness and changed all her audition songs. She put in so much effort and kept her grades up. As a parent, it’s easier for me to invest in her future after going through this and watching her commitment. She is in the spring of her freshman year and is thriving at her school… even got a lead in a spring musical. Good luck everyone. It will all work out the way it’s supposed to … and whether or not your child gets into the program they want, they will learn things from the experience that can help them navigate the rest of their lives.
Does anyone know how Marymount Manhattan notifies of acceptances?
We got an email saying “Update to your Portal” as of Feb. 27th. Our first email on Feb. 1st was the academic acceptance letter with an academic scholarship. This update shows another scholarship called an MMC Grant. It says nothing about her acceptance to the Theatre Department. I’m just wondering if the MMC Grant is by any chance one of the theater department scholarships?
Hate to bug, but does anyone know how/when Penn State notifications are going out? I saw on the school thread that people have started to hear. So I’m just curious if they’ve already let all acceptances know or if they’re random or what. Portal is still active
@daughtersdreams MMC last year had multiple updates on the website that were emailed as updated then followed by snail mail. Academic acceptance, academic scholarship, artistic acceptance then artistic scholarship were all separate updates. All were complete for my daughter within 3 weeks of the audition.
Juilliard does prescreen for voice majors, but I don’t think they do for drama majors.
@1998parent15 Thanks. I assume then that any artistic acceptance will be clearly marked as such. Still happy abou the additional scholarship money!
I thought today would be the day of at least one decision. Nothing! I know some Ithaca rejections went out in snail mail. We did not get one of those (yay…I think…), anyone know when/how Ithaca usually notifies?
IDK how/when Ithaca notifies acceptances, @ALS0830 but its a good sign that you haven’t heard: D received her rejection letter last Tuesday. Rooting for your D!
That’s a great acceptance rate @japbmom ! Glad your D is happy and thriving in her program. Wondering how you handled the mid-May acceptance off a waitlist? By then, I guess she had already committed to another school. So how would someone be able to make a change at that point?
@ALS0830 If Ithaca is still like they were in 2014… decisions come out in waves… we didn’t get ours until the very last wave at the end of March. It’s nerve wracking each week as others hear and your kid is still waiting… but if you know that’s how it operates it helps. Keep the faith!
My D also received her Ithaca rejection last Tuesday. It’s a good sign you haven’t heard yet!
Anyone heard from JMU today? Daughter is waiting but no word. Heard some acceptances already went out etc so thinking that may be negative
With waitlists - it has to be a personal decision. If your plan is to go to college in the Fall, you really must accept an offer by May 1. Usually to accept your spot at a school, that requires that you put down a deposit for school and probably a housing deposit as well. If you should come off a wait list at a different school later, you will need to decide if you prefer that school to the one to which you’ve already accepted If so, you will have to be willing to forego any deposits you’ve made as most schools will not return that money to you. But there is nothing that says you can’t decide to accept your spot at the wait listed school if you are willing to give up those deposits.
Interestingly, many kids, once they have accepted a spot in a program, quickly become attached to that school and program. Even if they come off a wait list at a school they thought they preferred, many times, they will decide to stick with the school to which they’ve already accepted. Sometimes its because they feel more wanted by the school who accepted them first. Sometimes its because once accepted they begin making friends with future classmates and people in the program. And mentally they have already started planning on being a student there - where they will live, what their classes will be, etc… So don’t be surprised if you do have the occasion to come off a wait list that your child may choose to stick with the school they accepted May 1.
vvnstar, you are so right about the signing up and being “committed” by the kids. By the time the acceptances and off wait lists come in, everyone especially the kids are pretty exhausted:) This is something that needs more highlighting in discussions.
@theaterwork JMU Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance major program decisions for EA academic admits are currently being uploaded to the student’s portal. These should be available to view by the end of this week/ early next week. RD decisions… both academic and major should be released via the student’s portal sometime between mid-March and April 1.
Thank you @KatMT! James Madison remains high on the list and keeping fingers & toes crossed! Hoping letters or emails also go out since I’m pretty sure we just locked the MyJMU account in our excitement to check… :>
I want to post one funny experience (although there were many!) from Chicago Unifieds. As a mom and armed with the wonderful advice I got from this forum, we arrived with an arsenal of preventatives. Everything from Clorox Bleach wipes, tea, steamer, throat coat, to Zicam. As my S did his dance call on Sunday night, I literally cleaned our hotel room from top to bottom and of course was annoying at each and every audition with the Purell. Drove husband and S crazy. Guess who got sick. ME. I was miserable the entire time and the best part was this: Last day, checked out of the PH and we had one more audition but later in the afternoon. We decided to hang out in one of the cool alcoves on the second floor overlooking the atrium. I had HAD it, and sunk into a couch with my head back on the cushion. Next thing I hear:
Security: Sir, is this woman with you? Is she OK?
Oh my goodness, I can’t even imagine! They thought I was severely compromised in some way! And I promise I don’t think I looked that bad??? I swear, but it must not have seemed good, at all!
Moral of the story, Chicago Unifieds can take it out of you. LOL. I am totally recovered now but what an experience. I think it’s hard on kids and parents too! All in all I am so glad it was me not feeling well and H and S were happy and healthy!
