Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

Welcome @efr9598 - and break a leg tomorrow!!!

Welcome @efr9598! Good luck!

@efr9598 Is your son auditioning for Acting or MT? My D is doing both.

@KelviVan My D is auditioning at Temple tomorrow. D’s TU portal said incomplete for a few weeks even after they had everything. I emailed and they said it would be updated soon. The net week it said Complete. But still no acceptance decision. So I emailed again Monday because Temple’s theater audition page said that students must first be accepted academically before they can be accepted to the BFA program. Temple emailed back and said that she has to audition first before she can receive an admissions decision. All the other colleges gave academic acceptances first. {{SHRUG}}

That teacher has no business having contact with children. It is disgusting and I’m so so sorry that your daughter had to experience this. A good lesson for all is to not take cues as to how to think act and feel about ourselves based on what others do or don’t think about us. Sounds like she has a wonderful parent at least some wonderful teachers

@daughtersdreams I think he is just auditioning for MT, but to be honest, I can’t remember! And thanks, @mom4bwayboy and @toowonderful!

@MTMamma I’m with you there on the money aspect! It feels like I’m the only one worrying about that. My D has recd two great offers but I have no clue how I’m gonna foot the bill. What are the rest of you doing/thinking? Am I alone in this?

@musicmama123 how did you go about your research on that??

The tuition at the majority of these schools is astounding. I have one graduating in May and we began saving for her education when she was about 2 months old. We did end up having enough in her 529 account so she is graduating debt free. We would have been short but she ended up getting an apartment in junior year and you can’t use 529 money to pay for that so we had to foot that bill out of pocket, leaving enough in the account for the last few tuition payments. But think about that…we have been saving for 21 years! We also have been saving for our current hs senior since she was a baby but with the price of the CA schools (which is where she would like to end up) we only have enough for maybe a year…it’s nuts! We qualify for no financial aid and the merit aid she has gotten so far is not too impressive. I really should have pushed the SAT/ACT studying more. It’s a shame that these schools seem to judge a kid by their SAT score when it comes to giving money. I’m going to try to squeeze something out of LMU if she is very interested after we visit…even their lowest scholarship I would have been happy with. So, even from someone who can afford it (yes honestly we can, but our D doesn’t know that!) we have to decide if it makes any sense to take money from our retirement and/or take out loans to pay for a theater degree. I mean, heck if she were going for medicine or law I could justify it but it’s hard to justify for an acting degree. UNCSA would be a coup for us financially…comparatively speaking it’s cheap! And U. Minn is also very reasonable. But…the kid’s dream is California so it will be interesting to see how it will all play out. We do have the upper hand with her in a sense, because she doesn’t know anything about our finances and is definitely taking tuition into consideration.

@KPike320 no you are not alone. I made a spreadsheet of how much all the expenses are for first year, since that is the most expensive, including trips home etc. It was helpful and depressing because I would be eating rice and beans and still just cover her room and board. I am trying to stay hopeful…but it is heavy on my mind. You are not alone my friend…take heart.

I recieved a “thanks but no thanks” letter in the mail about 2 weeks ago from Wright State. I auditioned in early January! I recieved my academic acceptance from Montclair this week (I did a walk in at Chicago Unifieds) and with my academic acceptance it said that I was turned down for my selected major and was accepted as an undecided major. It didn’t say “No BFA MT” anywhere but I called and double checked and that’s what it meant! @admission2017 @MTAlabamaMom

My D is waiting for dance call at Temple. Coming down the home stretch on audition season. BAL to everyone auditioning today!

@everythingisRosie thanks for the info!!!. On the Montclair letter…I’m curious. We received something similar, but I didn’t think it was a rejection. Can you tell me if yours was the same or different? Our said,

" congrats you have been accepted to Montclair State University.…… as you know the major for which you originally applied requires either in addition, interview…… So the committee has changed your major to UNDECLARED in order to expedite the enrollment process. If after your audition…… The faculty admit you to your desired program, your major will be changed accordingly. If not, your major will remain undeclared".

then it goes on to ask us to schedule our audition, but it’s confusing because she had already auditioned at this time. Just wondering, since you called, if yours said something different than this one, or if it was the same I guess this may be a rejection… But we did not think it was. I’m so confused!

@MTAlabamaMom My D got the same letter from Montclair at the beginning of January and she had auditioned in November, She got a scholarship offer after that, but still no word regarding artistic decision.

@MTAlabamaMom and @KelviVan I think Montclair’s system could use a technology update. Remember how they needed paper copies mailed to them as part of their audition process?

I think they’re buried in paperwork and it’s making it difficult for them to get organized and send out acceptances and rejections. I do know they’ve made some offers, so they’ve started the process. Just don’t know what that means if you haven’t heard anything about the audition.

Has anyone auditioned for Kent State? My audition is today but I just wanted to be sure because they didnt give us a check in time. We only show up for our audition time right?

So D got her Temple acceptance in the mail today! It came in a small envelope, so we thought it was going to be bad news! The letter says that her acceptance is still based on the admissions review of her academics. She’s an excellent student, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I guess the bigger envelope will come with the academic acceptance. Also, the online portal is not updated yet, so the mail can definitely come first! BAL to those auditioning at Temple today! My D loved Peter and Maggie and their dance call was to a Hamilton song. She loved it!

Congratulations @LAM2017 !!

@followurheart thank you! Someone had posted earlier " we’lol figure out the money later". When I read that I thought, “I don’t have that luxury.” The sad part about this is the school choice becomes not just a talent issues or a " right fit" I ssue but it also becomes a “do you have the money” issue! You know, we all live and die for these kids of ours! How can our wallet affect this so greatly??!! I hate that!!

@LAM2017 we are still waiting for Temple so far nothing did you audition at Chicago? We also did a campus visit we really loved Maggie to. Congrats!
