Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

My D heard from LIU after about 2 weeks

My D received her “Congratulations you’re accepted academically but not admitted to MT” letter today from Montclair. The letter went on to say they wanted her to attend with the option of getting into MT at a later time. How many of you would attend a school where you’ve been accepted academically, but not to MT in hopes that you can get in at a later time???

We got the same letter today @aquarose26! We thought the same thing. Start as “undeclared” and then try later? And for the cost, there is no way we would do that!

@aquarose26 - We’ve received quite a few of those: “we’d love to have you… BUT” letters too. I think for most kids it isn’t a very viable option.

And we arrived home from the Elon audition with a “no” from Ithaca, D’s #1 school. She’s crushed and a mother is only as happy as her saddest child…so…trying to stay positive and hoping for one yes. [-O<

So sorry @ALS0830 that is so hard…I am bracing myself. I totally get a mother is only as happy as her saddest child. Sending you positive vibes for all your other auditions.

@ALS0830 So sorry about the “No”. The hard “No’s” are the worst.

@ALS0830 Don’t know where you live, but Ithaca is awfully cold lol! I’m sure the perfect opportunity will be coming your daughter’s way soon. Wishing you all the best.

Sorry about Ithaca @ALS0830. If it makes your D feel any better, we got the hard “no” from Ithaca and didn’t get an audition at Elon. Somehow this will all work out. I keep telling myself that!

@aquarose26 A lot of the colleges want students to enter the college anyway, but I’d be very cautious about doing so with a chance to get into MT later - especially with a very competitive program like Montclair. I think they have a non-audition BA in theatre studies, but you’d have to do that with no expectation of being accepted for the MT. I feel like I heard something difficult about reauditioning in MT for Montclair specifically, so you might investigate.

Arrgh ,…D got the reminder email about BW notification date being 3/9…
As if we needed a reminder!
Um no we don’t need a reminder!

@theaterwork Right? My heart skipped a beat when I saw the “BW Conservatory” subject line. sigh

@singoutlouise congrats great school!

We got the Montclair, “we want you but don’t want you” letter today too. :((

Yep - Add us to the Montclair list. Sending the “no” in a big envelope hidden under a “Congratulations!” sentence is a little evil…

@aquarose26 Thanks for the info about Montclair Nest portal. Our letter has a CWID # but I don’t see any PIN.

Can anyone tell me where the PIN is or what it looks like? @MTMHopeful or @KelviVan

@marg928 Good luck with the USC acceptance and all of these crazy competitive programs. We are still waiting on the BFA acceptance, but after hearing how the program is changing, not sure that we like the rigidity of it. My D would like to be able to study abroad and the BFA doesn’t allow for that. While thankful for the scholarship, it is still very expensive. Butit is a really GREAT school with all the offerings that my kid is looking for.

@aquarose26 and @MReader The day my D auditioned at Montclair, there were two girls who were currently BA
Theatre studies auditioning for MT. Of course, I don’t know the outcome, but at least they do let you.

@aquarose26 @MReader I attended an Arts day w/ D at Montclair back in Nov. During a parent Q&A, Clay James specifically stated when asked about BA students auditioning, that he wouldn’t recommend a student accept BA with the anticipation of getting into the BFA program. He said it would be detrimental to the BA if it was constantly having kids leave to join the BFA. They want kids in the BA who want to stay there. Of course, I’m sure it may occasionally happen, but not the norm according to him.

@KPike320 The event she attended was called “Select Southern” it was a great afternoon of presentations, a nice parent reception and an overnight experience for accepted students to meet others and to allow the kids to experience all that the school has to offer. I was impressed with their parent presentation and my daughter came home very happy and excited. I haven’t seen a show there, but I can tell you that the stage is REALLY cool. It rotates and is modular. Like, Les Mis or Hamilton with one turntable rotates! The school itself is extremely safe even though the surrounding neighborhood. One way in and one way out. It is smaller, but a lovely campus. The kids can Uber or drive downtown in 5 minutes. Full college experience (athletics, greek life, many campus orgs) and they have the January term that a lot of private schools have adopted. A lot of personal attention from faculty and the alumni seem to be very well connected and still interested in helping students at the school in their career fields. The degree is a BA in Musical Theatre. After looking over the curriculum and talking to both the head of the music and the theatre depts I am impressed. I think they are doing good things at BSC :).
