Texas State MT began calling yesterday. It will go on for several days
@theatremomma do you think all calls are made in the evening so they can reach the kids and faculty are done teaching ?
@bexsky26 my D got calls from one of her schools in the middle of the school day, which of course she missed. They played phone tag for a couple of days after that and finally connected on a Saturday.
@samigaga I hope not! I saw someone post that they got a call yesterday but I also saw someone else say calls would begin today…
@bexsky26 I really don’t know what time of day but I do know that 2 people were called last night in the evening hours. And remember!! there will be people who get other offers that suit them better. There will be a wait list and EVERY year people come off the wait list. This will go into May.
Your hopeful thought for the day: D’s classmate has been accepted to CCM, FSU, Wright State, Texas State, and Alabama (so far). Somewhere out there are 4 boys who are a decision away from each of those spots!
@aquarose26 Well I would say that is not too shabby. My D did not get that offer from Montclair with her rejection although she had been accepted academically months prior. It urged her to look at different majors. I mean really? What theatre kid is going to do that anyway? But as an example, we were deferred from Ball State MT to the Theatre Department option which I took as a positive (and a safety) since there might be an opportunity to audition again in the fall. So honesty, it is not ideal…my D is not happy…but I’m trying to find a light. (as we still await only 6 more schools) :-S
@theaterwork I got the BW email too!! Ugh…my D loved BW so this will be a great day or a blah day…
@KelviVan Yes! I really hated that envelope. It was the worst…had to read and re-read to comprehend. Very disappointed in how Montclair has handled things TBH. And I’m not being sour grapes…my older D went there and graduated and loved it…I loved it. She was a Theatre major. But this MT journey has been rough.
@missnypizza we are in the same boat. I urged my daughter to look a schools outside New England area. Nope. Being from California, she wanted Broadway. BUT she did get into her safety school, just not MT. (Cal State Fullerton) She can’t audition for that until Spring of freshman year, however they get her started her first semester on a MT “track” of classes, AND if she gets into MT, we are reminded that it’s a cut school. And now the tears…
@theaterwork @missnypizza I didn’t get the BW reminder email! Not that I needed it, but did they lose us! :((
@freddieggirl, no reminder email for us either!
@missnypizza I’m from the OC and I’m going to encourage you to rethink Cal State Fullerton. I know many people cut from that program who have been cut and devastated by it. You cannot stay in MT at all at that school if cut. The numbers they aim for make for severe cuts. I really think the 2 year program (or stay one year and transfer) at Fullerton College and then transfer to the MT program at UCI is a much better option. Much easier to get into UCI as a transfer student after freshman year. You can audition for the UCI BFA once you get there but can remain in MT if you don’t get into that. There are many successful UCI kids on national tours.
@theatremomma that’s good to know…my D did apply to UCI (we are OOS)
@marg928 OOS tuition UGH!!! a killer! Not sure of MT scholarship that might be available, Hopefully there are some!
We are from California as well and I wholeheartedly agree with @theatremomma. I have heard nothing but really devastating stories about the cut system at CSUF. My D had her heart set on going out of state but I did make her apply to a couple of programs and CSUF was definitely not on the list. She might have considered UCI because she has a couple friends successfully navigating the excellent program there on the BFA track, but she decided on a couple of other CA options in acting only. Her friends at UCI are flourishing and the program sounds amazing. But CSUF I would avoid at all cost. Just way too many stories of kids who poured their hearts and souls into a program for 2 years only to have their dream literally crushed.
True Confession this morning…I’m not doing the waiting part so well this week. Neither is my D. This is torture. Even with the distractions that we have it’s been brutal. I hope you all are having an easier time with it!
Me neither @Mardeen I’m swirling with the dates conspiracy theories and figuring out who’s revealing when and its killing my soul. I wish each school would just tell us a specific date and we could be like great thanks. But on the other hand thats making it worse. Like BW is March 9th and thursday feels like years away because of it.i just need to know
Waiting and wailing! I feel like Alice Beineke from the Adams Family. Waiting is so hard. I think my d is handling this way better than me.
Us either…this week is the worst. My D is so down.
