The only mail we received today was the FSU rejection. But, we already expected it, so it wasn’t AS bad…
We got our FSU rejection but it also said we could change her major to BA ? Did you get that one
@momtojoss Thank you so much! Same to you!
Yes, @cornymama It did say she could do that. I haven’t really looked that closely at the BA programs. How can you have time? It’s so hard to really compare all of these programs.
@LAM2017 , my older son is a regular student at FSU and loves it. I know that the BA kids can audition for any musical. I’m not sure if we were actually excepted to the school yet? I know we passed the prescreens and had an audition but I don’t know about acceptance to the university.?
@aquarose26 … I felt pretty similar two years ago and was able to do a readjustment with the help of this board late in the game.
Here’s a thread with some ideas: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1961095-any-well-known-mt-programs-accept-applications-after-feb-1st.html
@cornymama Funny enough my D got an email yesterday from FSU saying “Greetings from FSU, we are excited to have you join our Seminole Family” and set up orientation. Then 5 mins later an email that said “Earlier today you received an email inviting you to register for orientation. This message was sent in error…we will release final round of admission decision March 16th”. Then today we got our official letter in the mail with the NO for BFA acting which we already knew, consider the BA. It went on to say once you are admitted to FSU select Theatre as your major and submit the BA application thru Getacceptd
For what it’s worth, if anyone is looking at FSU again for BA, they give huge academic merit money for high end standardized tests and GPA. Huge, as in cheaper than our in state schools.
@cornymama and @kaf011, My D was accepted academically in January! So long ago! Long before we auditioned. But we received the same letter, apply through getacceptd, etc. Did you apply pretty recently? @3tallblonds is right! We were offered in state tuition, so a scholarship of $13k, with an already low tuition of $20k per year. They are very generous with the merit scholarships.
@LAM2017, I called we didn’t do early admission so we’ll know next week.
We didn’t do early admission either @cornymama Maybe they have rolliing admissions and they cut it off at certain dates?
@kaf011, @LAM2017 we got the same letter and I guess we’ll know next week. Of course my son doesn’t want to go that route. He wants out of Florida and a BFA. That was the only state school he Applied to. He’s been lucky enough to be accepted to two programs. Not sure if Either of them will be affordable?? We are still waiting to hear from four other schools. Hoping for more options since we have two denials and two acceptances. I know that whatever happens it will be the right path!
My D was accepted academically to FSU on December 8th. I guess there’s probably a rejection letter in my mailbox right now but we’re away this weekend for a wedding in Tampa…I guess we’ll get it on Monday. BY THE WAY they gave my daughter zero merit money. I said it before and I’ll say it again…all they care about are SAT/ACT scores. She’s a great student, very involved in school, has a 3.76 unweighted through junior year and it much higher this year. Two AP’s last year and three this year…but her SAT is only average so no money for us!
@marg928 that is so frustrating about the merit money.
Wow @marg928 ! They gave zero? I can’t believe that! It sounds like your D is a great student, with quite a few AP classes. I am really surprised. My D did get a great ACT score, but her grades are good, not great.
@cornymama @LAM2017 I think my D did regular decision also, she applied back in Dec I think, whenever pre-screens were due. Will be interesting to see if they give us any money, she has good grades and ACT. We are in NC and she wants to get out of here and her only acceptance is Elon in NC, we aren’t complaining because she got 1 so far, but she wanted to get of the state too LOL! Still waiting on 9 schools
@marg928 is right. It’s all about the ACT/SAT and/or GPA for many of these types of schools Many of the academic recruiting schools post the cut offs and associated merit on their web page. Since we get no financial aid, we used this “seek out the merit” method for all of our kids. We hired a ACT consultant for our youngest and it paid back 400X. I guess it’s like MT hiring consultants to have a better chance at a BFA program.
And true confession here… We didn’t let our girls apply for BFA. After 10+ years of 3 girls who look alike (set of twins + younger sister who all look the same) auditioning against each other, I could not take the stress of having them audition for BFA programs at the same time. I wonder if there are any identical twins going through this right now. Anyway, hats off to all of you. My HEROES!!!
@kaf011 “Only” Elon. LOL
@MTTwinsinCA you know all about twins and this crazy process!
Has anyone gotten any signs of life from CCM…the portal says decisions are released Fridays at 5pm and then nothing has changed for 3 weeks now…ughhhh!
