True! CCU BFA Design/Tech offers did go out. Last week was spring break, so the faculty are hoping to finish reviewing auditions and get offers out for the performance programs within the next week or so. They will go out via email, followed up with an official snail mail letter.
Thanks @AlexaMT. I heard a rumor that a VERY small number of MT calls had been made in recent weeks. Is that correct?
general question here regarding schools you have decided not to attend…I know my daughter needs to contact the MT dept if she is declining an offer but should we also be contacting the admissions dept and tell them she is not attending the school at all? or do they assume if you haven’t responded by May then you arent coming/
@MTAlabamaMom - a lot of my daughter’s friends go to U of Arizona and love their program. The last I checked the guy running the program came from Michigan and teaches at their summer program - so it seems there is a lot of good going on there.
I would say yes, @theaterwork , especially since we know that at several schools admissions and the department don’t always interface well. I wouldn’t go out of my way-but maybe just copy them on correspondnce to the arts dept.
So yesterday I said we had only yeses and nos, and no waitlists-and I felt that was for the best. A few hours later-a waitlist from Wright State 5 more to hear from; planning to visit one of our in-hand yeses in mid April.
@theaterwork Some MT departments communicate with admissions better than others. If she declines an offer and continues to receive mail or email she should notify admissions to put an end to the mail. (Then you will receive a survey asking why you are not attending)
It wouldn’t hurt to be proactive and contact both right away. A few schools sent reply cards in the admission packets asking if you are planning to attend or not - or still deciding.
@theaterwork We contacted all of the admissions offices to withdraw the application as soon as my daughter made a decision to free up a space on the college’s “general” waitlist.
I had heard rumors about that too and seen some things posted on various pages. I believe this is a communication error with people who have been accepted to the university. I spoke to Department Chair Monica Bell and she said not a single offer has been made yet for the BFA performance programs.
^That was in response to @Waitforit0824
Thanks for the information @AlexaMT!
First I want to thank all of you fabulous parents for all of the great vibes, advice and support you send out on CC. Second, Belmont is out. It’s a no for us, but that just means decision time. On to two visits and FINALLY I will know where my sweet girl will start pursuing her career. SO EXCITED for everyone and can’t wait to see where all our babies land!
I didn’t hear that rumor about Coastal at all- I must be slipping. :))
Does anyone know if PACE has finished making calls now?
Grrrr…another day with no mail! I was thinking that because we’re on the West Coast, we might get something delayed from the rest of you. We’re just praying for some answers either way at this point. Oh well…I guess the mailman will have to wait until Monday to be stalked by the crazy college mom again!
We still have a few colleges to hear from but for us situation looks very bleak right now. We have 4 solid rejections, one WL which was unexpected because it felt like a fairly certain option for my D, one redirect to BFA acting from a school she absolutely refuses to go to and Ball State redirect to BA theatre arts. I am wondering if there are any threads on colleges that have really good BA programs from what are considered ivy leagues of MT? The only silver lining is she has got in academically at most colleges that allow for separate admissions to the college and BFA. I am desperate for help at this time.
@Theatrical have you looked into UTampa and Dean College? Both great programs. Tampa is definitely a BFA, and I’m pretty sure Dean is as well.
Great question @Theatrical! I wish I knew information to help you out. We have wondered the same thing, best place to go if you don’t get into a BA or BFA you really want.
@Theatrical have you seen this thread (which has links to older threads with additional info):
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1963257-help-looking-for-schools-that-are-still-auditioning-accepting-video-auditions-p1.html
@Theatrical from reading these forums for a couple years I have gathered that the top MT BFA schools are not necessarily where you want a BA in theater from. There may be little to no performance opportunities for the BA kids. USC seems to be an exception. I’m sure there are other exceptions too. (Weren’t there just some posts about BA kids at ball state or Baldwin Wallace re-auditioning for the BFA as a freshman, getting in and doing really well?)
There r posters on here with kids who went or
Go to Nebraska Wesleyan -applied late in year- and love it. Drew university in NJ seems to be another option. Many good BA programs are in schools without BFA options. American, Muhlenberg, Wagner, northwestern, vassar, Sarah lawerence, Wesleyan, etc.
If there is a school she is in academically and likes, it is worth a visit or communications with the BA theatre dept to see what opportunities they can provide.
Good luck to you!
