Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

@nodaybut2daymom Last year we heard via the portal.

@KelviVan since Temple is rolling enrollment so it tends to be very competitive for all majors. The early the application the better. So because you did a walk in you’re a little late in the general acceptance game. I’d speak to the theater department. Also housing at Temple can be tight. If you want to go there get your housing deposit in right away. Are you from PA?

@LBSMOM Did you receive a MT decision by snail mail? Do you know if their portal has been updated?

D is just getting pounded the last few days with rejections. Anyone else going through this? She had some good acceptances in the beginning but the last few (some of her favorites) are coming in and are “no’s”.

Everyone here, including me, is feeling VERY beat up by this process!

@MTheaterMom, I definitely know how you feel. We have a couple acceptances, but have received about four rejections over the past week. I am trying to have D focus on the couple options that she has, visit the schools, start the process of deciding as if we won’t receive any more acceptances. How many more are you waiting for?

In our experience three years ago the rejections were very late in the game and our acceptances were quick. Not sure if that is true for all schools but in our case it was.

Ours was the opposite, waitlist early, many rejections and then acceptances right in a row at the end.

I think schools should give everyone till June 1 to make decisions. This way you can visit and really weigh options. I think some schools notifying the first week of April is disgraceful and really rushes a very important decision.

@owensfolks I loved reading your statement! Thanks…

Another day. No mail again. Six more schools still to hear from. As for decisions, we have plans to drive to his 2-3 top choices over spring break and maybe visit a WL school if there is time and energy.

@bisouu I agree 100%! We are trying to plan D’s visit now to her top choice but are waiting on 1 more and since they are both OOS and fairly far there is no way we can visit both by May 1.

@BandMom55 - I had checked the portal this morning and it was not updated. The MT decision arrived via
snail mail. We live outside of Philly - we weren’t expecting any notification until maybe next week.

@MTheaterMom - same - D had 3 rejections in a row, then a WL, and now finally an acceptance. We are waiting on 2 big ones - but are truly expecting much of the same. This process was definitely brutal and a reality check!

@KelviVan @nodaybut2daymom @LAM2017 My D Temple acceptance for MT came about a week before her academic acceptance. They did say they are very backed up in admissions this year and they are behind with processing applications.
As for $, my daughter is a strong student, but we were only offered a student loan. No scholarship money, which was a bit disappointing but not unexpected from large public institution. However, we are in-state, and it’s pretty much the best price on the table right now. Other offered prices have been high for us…even with scholarships.
Anyone going to Temple accepted students day Saturday? My D is looking forward to it. Hope she comes away with a positive feeling. Then off to visit some more in the next few weeks.
Still waiting for three responses…

@jhayes000 , yes! We are going to accepted students day on Saturday! We are also going to see Our Town Sat night. Let’s meet. I think you’re right about your in state tuition for Temple. You can’t beat it! I will PM you my contact info.

Hang in there everyone! Feel absolutely terrible for the families waiting on the first yes. I truly wish this wasn’t so hard for so many and question the difficulty and expense for something so seemingly arbitrary. Keep the faith and keep moving forward…(or as Dory would say “Just keep swimming!”)

@LAM2017 we’re waiting on OKCU and a couple of others. We’re in CA so visiting schools is really problematic and I don’t want her to miss too much school. We’re visiting an acceptance and WL next week, then the others will have to happen over Spring Break. Honestly, I’m not overly optimistic with Oklahoma but who knows! She knows she’s very fortunate to have what she does but it’s hard when friends applied to 4 schools and were accepted quickly, one to UMich. She’s holding out for a school that’s the right fit for her (and didn’t audition for UMich, CMU or NYU) but is beginning to show some signs of prestige jealousy and regret. I feel like we should create the 7 steps of MT Rejections.

On top of all of this, she’s going through the “senioritis” phase and according to her, “her friends suck”. HAHAHAHA! I forget how hard it is to be 17!

Blah, blah, blah…I’m sure I’m not the first and probably not the last to have these thoughts. Thank God for CCthanks for listening everyone!

YES! Just keep swimming!

My son and I are attending the Experience Temple Day on Saturday. We are OOS so I am hoping to convince financial aide to give us more money. Fingers crossed!

@MTheaterMom we are literally right where you are in terms of senioritis and the laments of “my friends suck” and so forth! Also also having signs of prestige jealousy. This comes and goes. One day “Im so lucky to have a few choices” to “I must be horrible since I didn’t get in to my top choices” to “Woe is me and how come they took this person” etc etc. It is indeed tough to be 17 and have all this on you too. A self esteem crusher to be sure!
I also agree with the post earlier about June 1 needs to be commit day. I mean May 1 is too soon!!
