How did we miss this last year at Unifieds? I could have used a Do-rite with all that stress!!
I’m not a donut person: Who’s got the 4-1-1 on the good deep dish pizza, beer, burger joint(s)? :))
My S really likes DMK Burgers (there’s one on the Navy Pier). The burgers at Au Cheval in the West Loop are pretty phenomenal, like some people say best in America, but there’s a really long wait unless you go very late at night…which you’re probably not going to do during Unifieds. (The last two shows, we’ve gone there after CCPA dress rehearsals, super fun night but don’t count on getting home before 2 a.m…) First Draft on Clark just south of the Loop has wonderful beer, food is just so-so. All the big deep dish pizza chains – Malnati’s, Gino’s, Giordano’s – have locations in the loop. Eataly (also near the Navy Pier) is super fun if you like Italian food. I’ve had gelato there, never a full meal.
@owensfolks - “the best” deep dish in Chicago is a very personal question. There are any number of places- but popular contenders are often Gino’s East, Lou Malnotti’s, Giordano’s and Uno’s. (All of these are chains with locations downtown.) Malnotti’s is my personal favorite- in fact, there are 3 frozen pies traveling home to Ohio with me right now…
Hot TIx at 72 E. Randolph has discounted theater tickets.
I’ll bring my stretchy pants!
Lou Malnatti’s has a location about 8-10 blocks directly south of the Palmer House. My S and I walked there. Very tasty!
I also strongly recommend going to Second City if you have a free evening. We went on Saturday night and it was amazing. I don’t think that I have every laughed so hard. An easy trip on the L plus a 2-3 block walk from the Palmer House (or a fairly short cab ride).
Chicago born and raised right here - original 312 from the 606 - so obviously, my opinion on Chicago deep dish is the only one that matters. And the best, hands down, is Uno’s.
Those suburban people (ugh) like my husband (blech) really like Gino’s East. But, whatever.
=))
Also, get Garrett’s popcorn. I die for Garrett’s.
Yes @KaMaMom Garretts!!! It is like 3 blocks from the Palmer, well worth carrying home!!
By the way speaking of Chicago and burgers. https://www.thrillist.com/eat/chicago/best-burgers-in-chicago-illinois-burger-quest
So I am a dinosaur, I still use a paper (and digital) calendar – I was transferring dates from my 2016 to my 2017 and shuddered when I went through January and February – all the auditions, the dates in there were astounding! This winter is so quiet! My message to you all is enjoy this time, it flies and although it is extremely stressful, it is a wonderful opportunity to really bond with your D/S. My D is home now for break, but soon will be headed back to her BFA where she is blissfully happy and thriving. Not where she thought she would end up at all, but she wouldn’t want to be any place else! Trust me it all will work out!!!
@theatrework, my daughter got her BW acceptance about a month ago. Came with a good academic scholarship so we can actually afford it if by miracle she makes it into their program. Her major is listed as “Candidate for Musical Theatre”.
Can anyone recommend a musical theatre singing coach in Chicago? We need help finalizing song choices. Any advice appreciated!
I concur @MTMommma. Having done this last year, get ready for the ride! All the fun starts in the new year. Cherish this crazy time with your sons and daughters, try not to over-react, or react too quickly. Take your time and enjoy the experience, after all you’ve been in this together and since the beginning. Good luck, everyone!
@MTMommma I sent you a message
Happy new Year, class of 2021 friends! LOTS to look forward to in 2017!
Anyone out there auditioning for USC in NY?
haha crickets! How about the MTCA Mock Audition this weekend? Will any of you be there?
My S did the MTCA mock in December…it was great! Very helpful and informative. Good luck!
