Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

@nodaybut2daymom same with my D - she quickly made a few “friends” - felt very welcomed and enjoyed the experience. I hope the rest go smoothly and she gets into one of her schools!

@CentralOHmomof4 I’m curious what schools didn’t you hear back from? D has an audition Saturday and received an initial confirmation, but no follow up yet on what the expectations are for Saturday etc.

@CentralOHmomof4 my D is experiencing this with one school. She submitted everything in early September; and I think they were her first academic acceptance. I suggested she give them ONE more try this week via a phone call-and then let that one go.

@LBSMOM sent you a PM. BAL to your D this weekend!!!

@CentralOHmomof4 - in your initial confirmation did they indicate they would send additional information at a later date? Or might that be the only confirmation/information they are sending to you? What additional information are you hoping to receive from them versus what was in the initial confirmation? If they’ve had auditions already this season, perhaps others on CC could fill you in on what the actual audition day is like?

@CentralOHmomof4 I was thinking the same thing as @vvnstar. Once I made an audition appointment I didn’t expect to hear anything more. FSU and Guthrie sent messages on Accept’d last week but I didn’t hear from anyone else.

@CentralOHmomof4 – I am sorry that you are not hearing back from the school.

I know that where I teach the initial confirmation, and a follow-up is sent from the automated sign-up system, but the specific schedule is not sent until 5 - 7 days before the audition. Every year we have student calling the week of the audition, sometime a day or two before, we have sent the specific schedule, but it went to “junk mail,” or a student email address they no longer check.

That may not at all be the case here, but I always think it is not a bad idea to call to make sure all is set.

That’s the thing, @vvnstar – no confirmation was ever sent. She selected the date, it was available, hit submit. And she’s sought confirmation for two months now. So, she scheduled something else that day. Maybe we will get surprised by some contact this week, who knows? I was really just wondering, is this common? Or is it indicative of a program that’s just not that responsive? Or, maybe it’s all part of the PROCESS :slight_smile:

@CentralOHmomof4 ~ I would call the school. Things do slip through the cracks.

This is my first time posting here and I am getting stressed out! We live in a very small town in southern IL and so my D’s experience is very limited. Our school has no drama department only a music department. She has excelled and done well in her musicals and is wanting to make MT her life. We had first audition at Millikin yesterday. She was told the BA program was a better fit. So. First rejection. I am nervous about her lack of experience and her chances of getting in anywhere. Any thoughts? We have never done anything like this before. Nervous wreck but am enjoying reading the posts.

@momtojoss we are in the same boat - my D does not have a huge cohort of MT friends to share this experience with. This community has been an amazing help - it helps us be aware of what is “normal.” I agree, when rejections/redirections come earlier, it can be demoralizing. So we are trying to stay positive and optimistic. My D has also applied to several reaches, several middles (safer, but not safe), and a couple well-recommended safeties (non-audition BFA programs) so knowing that she will have somewhere to go, takes a little of the pressure off. I was sharing with a couple of parents yesterday - I am not sure if I want it to be March now, or never get to March.

Hang in there momma!!

@CentralOHmomof4 I don’t know of any non-audition BFA programs…which ones?

@marg928 ~ from the Big List by Type pinned to the top of the page:

NON-AUDITION BFA
Avila MO
Belhaven MT
Brenau GA
Creighton NE
Ferrum College VA
Marietta College OH
Mars Hill College NC
North Georgia GA (partners w/Brenau)
Notre Dame de Namur CA
U South Alabama AL
U Southern Mississippi BFA w/MT opt MS

@momtojoss if you haven’t already, check out southeast Missouri state (SEMO). We have friends there who are super happy and I think they may offer tuition breaks for grades or IL residents. It isn’t as well known so may be less competitive to get in. However it is a good program with great talent.

IL Wesleyan may be a good fit too.

Good luck to you

@momtojoss the most important thing is that she applied to enough schools…although the deadlines have passed for most of them at this point so if she didn’t you may have a problem. My D applied to 23 schools because the chance of getting into a first tier BFA program is so slim. (She is going for straight acting not MT.) Four of those are University of California schools which were on one application and non-audition except for UCLA) and also non-audition BA’s at U. Alabama Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Rutgers BA theater (she is also auditioning for BFA). The Alabama schools are audition based for MT I believe but not for theater so this is an option for her to consider. All the rest are auditioned BFA’s except for Loyola Marymount which is a BA but video audition and American’s auditioned BA. There is nothing wrong with your D going to a school with a non-audition BA program if she doesn’t get into any of the auditioned programs. Just make sure she has choices! What are her safeties?

@lojosmo LOL I hadn’t heard of any of those schools before! I’m a NY girl though!

@CentralOHmomof4 we just got a letter in the mail from Point Park confirming this weekend’s audition.

SAT: 1160
GPA: 3.1 unweighted, 3.4 weighted
I’ve applied for rutgers business school and sas and i did early action as well but for the needed credentials, I submitted the eof application late and i still didn’t get a notice from them yet so I’m worried.

@mialiu this is a forum for Musical Theater majors :slight_smile:

@marg928 lol! Loosely speaking!
