Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

Thanks so much! We have 5 more auditions to go. Am thinking we will cancel CCM because she only wanted the experience and sadly I know she probably has no chance. Thankfully she has been accepted everywhere academiclly speaking but this audition stuff is killing me!

How the heck do I reply to certain posts? Sheesh I am so bad at this! Anyway I appreciate thhe feed back! SEMO is one of her choices and I am pulling for them. She applied to schools that are within about 5 hrs of us. Not nearly 23 though! We have visited Wright State and Webster. Both are high on the list for her. Also Belmont. I am so afraid she will be shut out of all our choices. She is our only kid and I am old! College has changed a lot since I went back in the late 70s!!! I think we are going to skip CCM. She only wanted to go for the experience but now I think she should just take time to concentrate on the schools she wants. She has been accepted everywhere academically thank goodness. I guess I would say WKU is her safety. I had no idea there WAS such a thing. So I am getting educated on this site!!! Sorry if I missed commenting on someone’s post. I am still learning!!!

@momtojoss It’s definitely not you with regards to figuring out the site! There is a reply button below every post but it doesn’t actually work! Just refer to the person you want to answer like I did here and you’ll be fine!

Great news today for my D Pace acceptance came in the mail with 27K which helps now we still have to audition in two weeks fingers crossed.

@lincoln56 Congratulations to your D on Pace acceptance and great scholarship! Is she auditioning for MT or Acting? My D is auditioning at Pace on Feb. 4 for BFA Acting .

@momtojoss Don’t let it get her down! Millikin takes a very small number into the BFA program. When I graduated, there were all of 14 BFA musical theatre grads. My class probably started with 20 or so, with the remaining kids either redirected to BA or changed majors voluntarily. The BA program is still a quality program. As for Wesleyan, I’m quite familiar with the school and their BFA program is far from Millikin’s. They don’t have as many performance opportunities and their tuition is a lot higher. Wesleyan definitely had better food though lol. If she’s set on BFA-ing, consider Western Illinois. A friend’s little sister just graduated from their BFA program in December, and she’s got a job with a children’s theatre company already.

@CentralOHmomof4 Signing up for auditions online can be tricky. You never know what’s going to happen when you click “submit”. Usually that generates a confirmation email or at least an email saying they received your request. But not always. So, we started doing screen prints before clicking submit so that we had a record of what we requested or signed up for.

One of the smaller universities my D registered online for an audition and never heard back. After 2 weeks and two emails to her admissions counselor we still never heard a confirm from the theater department. In the meantime,an audition opportunity at another college came up for the date she originally requested at the smaller school and my D took that one. Now she’s trying to reschedule the first unconfirmed one. This time she’s going to call the theater department to actually speak with someone.

I know these colleges are really busy right now, so it’s understandable that some stuff is going to slip through the cracks. Still frustrating though.

@marg928 We went to Point Park last weekend. Great experience! My D auditioned for Acting We go back in couple weeks for MT audition. All the people there were kind, helpful and genuine. Q & A with students was also good – only wish our kids could’ve been there for that part, but it happened after they left for their auditions.

Other perks: Free parking in Allies garage - make sure to get your ticket stamped at check-in. And Free lunch in dining facility in Lawrence Hall. Good food and nice selection.

Be aware that some colleges are just now going back into session after winter break and some might not even start until next week. Doesn’t excuse lack of confirmation, but could explain why a theater department is not currently responding.

@GloriaVaughn Thanks for the info! I wondered about Wesleyan. Good to hear first hand knowledge!

@momtojoss it is a very stressful time for both kids and parents! My D only applied to 9 schools - 2 of which are for Arts Administration - which she already got accepted (and accepted to Wagner - auditioning for MT, but could go for Arts Admin) - She has reaches and safety schools, but I have to tell you, I feel like even the safety schools are very competitive. My D has been preparing for this for years, and I still look around at these auditions and there is so much talent! It makes you wonder what makes your kids audition stand out from the rest. So, that is why she also had a plan B - because she didn’t want to apply to just any MT program, we visited a lot of schools and she chose 7 programs she really liked - so it’s go big or go home! Hopefully she will hear something from one of the schools after all the auditions are done! I know a lot of parents on this forum feel the same way and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for our kids! Best of Luck to all the parents and kids auditioning in the up coming weeks!!

Here is a share. Went to OTA’s this weekend with D for an audition. Kids walking around reciting monologues, stretching, tapping, practicing routines, laughing, parents in a room ready to provide hero support for their kids via snacks or a hug. MT is one big family that only grows with time. I had forgotten. I was moved as I looked around and saw the camaraderie and the passion in all of those faces. I know it’s hard in the eye of the storm, waiting for a yes. But, you will find your place! Thinking about all of y’all in this cycle as the auditions get close! Prayers.

@momtojoss My D is a first-year MT BFA at SEMO. PM me if you have any questions about the program.

@LBSMOM Thank you for saying it’s stressful. I had no idea. Now we are in a big fight and I just want to bow out. Ugh.

@songgirlsmom I would love to! Thanks! Ummm and how do I do that?
