@myloves has a D MT at UArts. She had some very good luck with their financial package. Perhaps she could chime in! My D was admitted last year as an Acting major; we did get a decent financial package but not quite enough.
Uarts is extremely generous. The acceptance offer is just the first step. They will add more when you get official financial aid package.
My D’s best friend was admitted to UArts for dance and I believe got $17k per year from them. Not sure if it’s financial based but they are not well off.
@theaterwork My D got her Montclair academic acceptance a while ago too, and her audition is the end of February. You may want to follow up with the school to be sure everything is squared away.
I was just talking to my friend whose daughter is going to UArts in the fall. They gave her $15K per year merit and then a few weeks later upped it by another $2K a year.
Does anyone know when FSU sends out their notifications?
Yay my D was just admitted to Cornish with a scholarship!
@marg928 so was my D’s roommate! Congrats!
@marg928 congrats to her!!! =D>
Lol so @MReader just looked and D did get acceptance academically to Montclair already!
She just told me “Mom they sent it already”…
I am literally losing track of everything now…
Yes, my D is a sophomore MT major at UArts, and she got fantastic aid from them (@megamusical and others)! (Plus, D now gets room and board because she is a resident peer tutor! Wow! This was all a blessing I could hardly imagine before.) They originally offered her an extremely generous package (don’t want to say exactly how much, but it was more than any of the numbers mentioned so far on this thread), but my husband worked with their financial aid people (who are so friendly and helpful), and they gave even more. It was an exciting time. Don’t write them off based on their list price or their initial offer (even if that initial offer is generous, like it was with my D)!
D auditioned for UArts at Unifieds a couple years ago. She did a song, a monologue, and a dance, and she had a kind of extensive interview. I don’t remember if she had to repeat certain parts for the adjudicator to video or not; I know she did that at a couple places, and I think UArts might have been one. Try not to look into anything too much at all, @1bamom; the unexpected often happens in this process.
(Crazy how I remember sitting on stools at a table with my H while D auditioned for UArts. It was the afternoon of the last day of Chicago Unifieds and D’s last college audition. She came out beaming because she thought it went really well and she loved the adjudicator; plus, she always got so much energy from these auditions. Soon enough you’ll all be looking back at these times with nostalgia, too! ).
To those who have been redirected to DPP ( @WhiteRaven1–and I think there was another): This is a terrific program. It’s led by a fantastic, well-respected and well-loved professor; she’s one of my D’s favorite people, period–no exaggeration. DPP’s get a lot of opportunities. In fact, last year, a guy who played the father of my D’s role in a play was a DPP major, and he is an incredible actor. He wowed me then and continues to do so with his acting and his projects. Another student (now graduate) who was involved in the production side of that play is going overseas with a production of his own this summer; my D is joining this project as a cast member!
(Thanks, @artskids, for tagging me. )
Thanks so much. UArts sounds amazing. BAL to everyone this weekend. Onward!
Thank you for that @myloves I would really like to attend UArts in the fall, but the price scares me. I’m really hoping to get a good financial package from them!
It scared us at the stage you are at now, too, lol! (As did many other places… It’s all so expensive!) We mostly had places that were known to give good aid on D’s list, with a few that weren’t known for their generosity on there just in case… D was very realistic about it all, thankfully.
Crossing my fingers for you! If you have any other questions about UArts, don’t hesitate to PM me!
Does The New School have musical theater as a major? Or us it straight acting? I’m getting confused here as I’m catching up on posts from early January where someone mentioned The New School?
@DVCmember yes they do have a BFA in MT
@DVCmember the BFA in MT is affliliated with AMDA. Looks like you do two years of MT at AMDA and then can transfer and design your courses to graduate with a BFA.
The new school has its own BFA in dramatic arts that is pretty broad based for a BFA. More
Than “just” performance focus.
They have flexibility which is pretty nice.
I just had a nice exchange with an admissions officer at Penn State. My D never completed the five page paper supplement so in essence we dropped Penn State. They emailed me from admissions asking about it and saying that she would be denied unless she sent everything in so I emailed them pretending to be my D (because she was in school and they won’t accept the email from the parent) and told them that a five page paper was a lot to ask and that we wanted to unfortunately withdraw the application. I said it in a nice way and I got a nice email back from the Theater Dept person Shannon. Apparently for some crazy reason I checked BFA Stage Management on the application. (when I responded back to her I told her I was the mom) I can’t imagine how I did that although the application did not have BFA Acting as a choice since it’s not an official major yet but will be changing over soon. I was supposed to have chosen BA Acting which I knew so I’m still so confused how I could have made that mistake. Anyhow…this admissions person sends back such a snide comment that I was completely taken aback! Here it is:
Hmm. Ok?
And you didn’t read my email either. You applied for the BFA in Theater Design and Technolgy. That is not the acting program. As a matter of fact, we don’t actually have a BFA in Acting program, we have a BA in Theatre.
-c
I have fat fingers.
Can you believe this guy? Is it me? Then after all this back and forth while my D is in school she starts to read the emails and is like…what the heck is going on? I told her to just ignore it but she was so mad at this jerk’s email that she sent back a doozy of her own! I’m not sure it was the right thing to do but oh well! In it she complimented his eloquent use of prose! LOLOLOL
I believe I just received a rejection from Montclair State. They said I was admitted academically but unfortunately rejected from my major of choice in the College of the Arts. I auditioned for Acting and MT though. Should I take this as a rejection for both or should I just call on monday to find out? Has anyone else received a rejection letter?
Oh my gosh I just got accepted in Rider University for MT!! 2 acceptances and no rejections i’m doing pretty well so far!
