I would say you are doing VERY well, @megamusical! Congrats!!!
@marg928 Just passing along some friendly advice we received from our college coach after we had a poor experience with a school…I was ready to send a letter to the department head to express my opinion (I was ticked!) but our coach advised against it because it is a small world in theater and many faculty members know faculty in other programs and you wouldn’t want them sharing a negative opinion of you or your daughter. I know it us tough, believe me, but just walk away and keep looking forward! Keep smiling!
I know you’re right @nodaybut2daymom…luckily I only had positive exchanges with the theater dept…this guy was admissions so hopefully he’s not in the ‘circle’.
@WhiteRaven1 It does sound like you were not accepted for Acting or MT by what you wrote, but wouldn’t hurt to call and verify.
It would be unfortunate if faculty members of different schools shared information about prospective students, not to mention a possible violation of FERPA.
@megamusical , congratulations!!!
@marg928 and @nodaybut2daymom - I wouldn’t take that coach’s advice as the gospel. I have never had a conversation with another faculty member at another institution during audition season besides to ask if they are noticing a lack of men, dancers, etc. At a large university, the admissions counselors are quite possibly on the opposite side of campus and are probably quite disconnected from the faculty. As a faculty member, I would want to know if my institution’s admissions staff was sending poorly worded emails and/or snide comments to potential students. The interactions of those staff can cast a dark shadow on the entire program and I would find that completely unacceptable. I think you need to word the email carefully, but you should not be afraid to let the department chair know what happened.

@VoiceTeacher I was thinking along those lines myself and was considering telling the theater dept what transpired.
Don’t forget to add your acceptances to the list!

D is safely in Chicago and checked into her hotel! I can stop worrying about her missing her 4:45 Michigan dance call.
Sorry to hear @WhiteRaven1. I would call to clear up the confusion. My D auditioned at NYC Unifieds. Haven’t heard anything yet from the MT department. Was it a letter in the mail? No email notification? Thanks.
Stressing out. D has gotten progressively sick as we are here. She is now saying she wants to reschedule as these are big schools for her. I don’t think there is any time to reschedule
@musicmama123 how many auditions does she have scheduled? Bless her (and your) heart! Sending your D healing vibes!!!
@musicmama123 My S started sniffling on the flight yesterday and since then has gotten worse. I’ve been to Target twice and Walgreens once to pick up Kleenexes, nasal cleanse, personal steamer, and more. It’s absolutely terrible timing. Can’t reschedule any of the auditions. He’s just going to “do his best” and pray they can tell he’s not 100%.
Oh my goodness @MidwestMTMom and @musicmama123 , I am so sorry to hear your kids are feeling sick! My D was feeling under the weather at her very first audition and after she sang they asked her if she was sick and she said “yes, I am sorry”. They admitted her on the spot anyway and I think they were impressed that she muscled her way through the whole audition process without making excuses. It was so stressful for her and for us! Get some Sambucol, it’s a natural product that boosts the immune system! Hoping for quick recovery for all of you!!
So sorry you guys!! Hope they feel better and they can just sing over it! Healing vibes sent!
oh no…everyone’s worst nightmare! We got so lucky with my D’s stomach bug the day before Purchase and that they were able to push her back a day. Sending good vibes your way!
My D is congested too! She got off the plane yesterday and her ears were blocked until this morning. Luckily she only had the UMich dance call on Sunday and didn’t have to sing. I just gave her the “behing the counter” sudafed so hopefully that will help. Thank goodness Target is so close!
I know a girl who literally lost her voice at unifieds – michigan let her reschedule to on campus…they had to fly out last minute but her voice had recovered. i have found schools to be really nice with these issues, but there is only so much time to reschedule and you have to ask if you want the extra expense.
My D’s local voice teacher (who is associated with a MT program talked about often here) recommends Mucinex for times like this.
Drink a ton of water, use a personal steamer many times throughout the day (as in once an hour or so) and keep a room vaporizer going, use nasal spray (I forget which of the latter to use, though), and use Singer’s Spray (at least before auditions)…
Get well, everyone! And break legs!
