Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

@daughtersdreams, they did their monologues that way (everyone at the same time walking around the room delivering the monologue three different ways) at the LA regional auditions. That is how they do them.
Off-topic slightly, but Is it just me, or does Prof. Connell resemble a greek god? LOL must be the curly hair and his actorly “presence”!

@MTMommma - A Greek God – so funny! Actually more like the Statue of David. I googled it and yep! That’s him – well maybe 15 years ago anyway. of course I’m only referring to the curly hair, face and square jaw. Can’t judge as to his likeness to the “rest of the statue”. hahaha! :))

@CTDramaMom I was relaying your Ds story ( (from final decision thread) to my D just the other day! Obviously your D is very talented & I was sobered by how everything went for her. So glad to hear she is loving where she is and hoping my D had similar success in finding her fit.

@MReader so sorry for your daughter’s disappointment. My daughter auditioned for her number one choice at Unifieds. She came out of the room and I could see that she was about to burst into tears. I rushed her into the stairwell and she said, “I’m not getting in there, but it’s okay because I don’t want to go there anymore.” She said they cut her song off at exactly 90 seconds and were extremely rude. Of course, three days later the rejection letter came. It was so heartbreaking at the time because she was sure this was the perfect fit. Fast forward two years…she is a sophomore. At the perfect school for HER. She is in a BFA program that she loves. Give it time. Your daughter will find her place.

^^College admission process puts so much stress on our kids. All we can do is love and support them through it all. I’ve learned to become a cheer leader and remind my kids that you have to apply for 1,000 things (prizes, scholarships, internships) to get acknowledged by just one. Learn to embrace the struggle and hard work. You can’t get everything you apply for, but the hard work will serve you well in the long run.

For Baldwin Wallace, what cuts of the three songs are they looking for? At one section on website they say one minute and another they say 32 bars?

@MomofMTBoy My D auditioned last Sunday. She had 3 - 32 bar cuts prepared. They will pick what you sing! So be prepared to nail all of them, meaning- don’t rate them from best to worst. 3 best!! They did not ask my D to sing more past the cuts but from reading on another post, she had her music ready in its entirety just in case. She was only asked to sing 2 cuts. Hope this helps and BAL!

@BeBop1 your post hit a nerve. I’m glad it has worked out for your daughter. You gave some great advice. I think there’s a lot to be said for getting a taste of rejections early on. Sometimes it’s enough to send kids running in the direction of a new career and that’s ok. This is my second round on the MT circuit and I’ve seen and heard the full spectrum when it comes to auditions from they were so-kind-you’re-sure-you’re-in to “I think he was reading his messages” during a second monologue. I appreciate the numbers game – there are too many applicants for not enough spots. I understand colleges have the freedom to be selective, after all it is an auditor’s market. However, there is no excuse for disrespect. These kids will get their share of knocks, if they haven’t already at this stage of the game. There are only so many leads in high school musicals. If the starting point for auditions is respect then maybe everyone gets a fair chance. We all know and understand the audition playing field is not level. For some, the Unifieds experience is quick and easy, for others, too quick and not-so-easy. What about the campus visit that involves a five-hour bus ride or a pricey plane ticket? Then the group is split in half and some get audited in the windowless “cellar” while others get the sunny studio with the head of the program. If colleges are only asking for 10 minutes of material, then have the decency to, at the least, make that level and balanced. Most of the applicants are high school seniors, below nineteen and without a doubt, heading into a tough business where a world of opportunities to be dismissed and disrespected awaits them. There is plenty of time to ease into the not-so-pretty reality of their chosen field. There are schools in all zones from safety to reach that go above and beyond to be respectful and then there are those that don’t seem to care, as if they’ve forgotten that we, in fact, are paying for this experience. Getting rejected from a school that treated you well is so much easier than knowing it’s over before you even had a chance to finish your song. My lengthy two cents worth. Best of luck to everyone!

Some schools are respectful. Some are not. From a parent perspective I didn’t enjoy Penn State’s process. We did on campus. But looking back it wasn’t so bad. At least we knew when we didn’t get an interview we knew we were done and it was time to move on. I also appreciated CCM’s quick response! As other parents have said everything does workout in the end and if it doesn’t you can always opt to transfer.

@followurheart Oh no! I cannot believe they would send such a message while they KNEW she was at Unifieds and auditioning for other schools. How thoughtless and unprofessional. I’ve never heard of rejections going out the same day – acceptances occasionally do, but not No’s.

IMO, if a school would do that to a prospective student, I’d cross it off my list…

I wish your D all the best!

The flip side of that even though it stinks is that your child can do walk ins to better there chance to get in somewhere. I would rather know right away then hear weeks afterward and think I may still be in the running to get a spot. It is a crazy process. I will be happy when it is over.

@Mel2421 Same. The end of this crazy can’t come soon enough!

We are in same boat. A couple of schools, that she loved, and thought she did very well , have sent the dreaded e-mail! She was distraught, about one in particular, and through tears, said "I don’t think I can do this anymore! " She is especially stressed, because she was sick for several auditions, and now she is worried. There’s a lot of rejection, we knew this coming in , and for some reason just did not anticipate how these kids would take it , or how hard this whole process is! I think the next three weeks is going to be hard to get through!

I watched kids go through this for years -until it is your own child I don’t think the stress and the feelings of rejection can be truly understood

The rolling admission can be maddening! I think it would almost be better if all of the school told the students a set date they could expect to hear something . The unknown has them (and us) checking their email (and mailbox) over and over with the anticipation of an acceptance. The no’s my S has received have been a big hit (and one from his then favorite school). He was intrigued by his safeties but unifieds got him so worked up thinking he has to be at a 1st or 2nd tier school! Doing the math from what he was told at auditions he should hear from at least one school this week and it couldn’t come soon enough.

Sorry for the double post ! Tried to delete

Eloquent and relevant words, @mmm333…agreed.

Have people heard much back from Chicago Unifieds? There were two schools in particular that I thought we’d hear from this week. Quite frankly if it’s bad news I would love if they wait until next week as my D has two auditions this weekend. The waiting is so very hard!

@Wickersham2365 we have not heard anything from CHicago Unifieds yet. It’s almost like “no news is good news” She had a “mixed bag” experiences and just because they loved her doesn’t mean she is going to get in. We learned this from a prior audition where one of the people in the room walked out with her in the hallway and said "They loved you! " And then 2 weeks later we got the “Sorry but you are not being considered for our BFA” It’s just crazy. SHe is in 1 BFA program we know little about and 1 that is a “safety” school. We are still hopeful 1 of the 5 we are waiting to hear from is a yes. SHe also has an audition at the end of the month in Alabama
