We are hoping no news is good news. Her HS friends are saying that to her. Our D is really just doing or has just done the lion share of auditions. She had three auditions prior to Unifieds – only two of which let her know where she stands (one no, and one BA). At this point she is on a wait list at a school that she is not totally into so we all feel like we are on shaky ground. Things went well and were productive at Unifieds but you just never know. I agree with you, just because they felt it was awesome doesn’t mean they’ll get an offer. My D whom I used to have to remind to check email every other day is now checking it obsessively. People have no idea of how long and tough this process is. On the upside, both my husband and I have gotten to spend a ton of time with our D this past month. I’m actually envious that he is taking her this weekend except that means I spend the weekend at home with our other D. OK, back to work. Thanks for the therapy.
We haven’t heard anything from Chicago unifieds either. I am not sure we will! It seems like most schools won’t notify the kids until 3/1, at the earliest! I guess some will let you know sooner if it’s a “no”? Is that true? This is the worst! Just waiting… Then I am wondering if we will have to travel all over the U.S. to see schools in April before making a decision by May 1? That’s if we even have options! Who knows? BAL to all of the kids auditioning. We are officially DONE!
@LAM2017 I know what you mean! We will only have such a short period of time to visit and get to know the schools before May 1. And yes, we totally auditioned at schools we have never stepped foot on the campus:)
My D did get a yes (today) from Chicago Unifieds. The program told her she would hear within the week & sure enough she got an email this morning! This school was on her original list and was not a walk-in.
What school? @MTMHopeful
We have only heard from one school from NY Unifieds…Cornish. And that was two weeks before Chicago. Actually she got the Guthrie call back the other day and that was from NY Unifieds.
Well at our house we all try not to think about the decisions and when they’re coming, but of course it’s always the “elephant in the room” lol.
March should be appropriately torturous !
Only 3 auditions left , thank God!
@mmm333 This school only accepts 6-7 girls and I think they were looking for specific types at that point. My daughter is average height/weight/caucasian and they had probably seen enough just like her. They probably rejected her as soon as she walked through the door (although it was a prescreen school). To make matters worse, my daughter said that the piano was out of tune. Her other audition at that Unifieds did an eight count ballet combo and then cut almost all of the kids. They said it wouldn’t affect admissions, but, really? This from a school that sent a special email to remind tappers to bring shoes. It was so disheartening. Meanwhile, she is in all advanced dance classes in college, at a school that is known for its dance department. Again, I think type was in play. The hardest thing to come to terms with was why some schools and not others. There was no predictable pattern of acceptances or rejections, which led to the roller coaster thing. I am here to tell you that you will get through it and most likely your child will be happy. Hold onto that.
I went online today to cancel our hotel reservations in Washington DC this weekend because my daughter really does not want to go to the American audition. Oh well that didn’t work out too well the reservations were nonrefundable! I guess we will be going to DC for the weekend LOL. I’m hoping I can at least get her to take an hour and do the audition and then we will skip the whole college tour thing on Monday. I spent the money for the application so I feel like she might as well just do it.
@marg928 I really hope your D changes her mind and auditions at American U this weekend. My husband and I both used to work there and lived within walking distance. My D has auditioned for films there so I know they have an excellent film department with grad students producing high quality, award winning films and web series. The campus and facilities are beautiful and in a very good neighborhood. There’s easy, safe and affordable transportation via bus and subway (metro) to DC where you’ll find tons of other opportunities for auditions and classes. I think she’d find an outlet for both her musical theater side and her straight acting side too. I didn’t even know they offered MT, so I can’t speak to that program. But if I had known, I would’ve had my D audition!
A good HS friend of D’s graduated in December from American with a major in international affairs and an MT minor. She got to do some REALLY cool stuff while she was there (Kennedy center, study abroad in Vienna, etc) I know what it can be like to try to “force” a kid who insn’t into the school - maybe we’d you are there she will feel intrigued- good luck!
Does anyone know if Pace has sent out Priority Holds yet?
Pace didn’t notfy until march last year.
We also have a friend there graduating this spring (not an MT major, but a singer). She’s been in an a fantastic a cappella group, spent a semester abroad, and also had great experiences. She’s loved it. But I agree - if your kid isn’t into it, you probably can’t force it!
@MTmom2017 I would encourage your daughter to audition. This will be her life once she graduates. One audition after another. She may not feel like doing it but this is what this business is all about. She will learn something valuable from each audition she attends. Have her stock this up to one more experience that will help her reach her goals.
oops!!! Sorry LOL
Yes! Encourage the audition. My D wasn’t sure about a couple she applied to at my request but ended up really enjoying auditions. You can’t force them to go to a college but certainly no harm in encouraging them to do the audition. (Especially with money having been spent). After that, let the school turn around her feelings & impressions. That’s part of their job.
Thanks so much for that info @daughtersdreams and everyone else! She is auditioning for the straight acting program and my nephew is going to be attending in September also majoring in international affairs so I really do have an interest in visiting.
Mmm333 pace does not usually do holds. They notify by phone if accepted. Wait list letters come soon after.
