@mezzomother Congratulations - that’s great news! Hartt is an amazing program. My daughter is a freshman there this year so if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
@mezzomother Congrats to you D! I was wondering how she found out…call, email or snail mail?
@mthopeful17 I don’t think that is what it says for everyone. On our audition paper at Ryder, they had students check if they wanted to be considered for any other program at the same time as their musical theater audition, and they gave you the option to choose what programs you would like to consider if they couldn’t find a fit for yo the MT program. So technically, you auditioned for whatever programs you put down on your audition paper at the same time (with consideration as MT as your first choice). When did you audition at Ryder?
It is a No for U of Michigan! My D seems okay. Congrats on all the recent acceptances!!
@mommaofdrama , I have been lurking on this site for two years, and your post made me want to chime in. My daughter is one of those kids who was completely shut out last year. No BFA MT acceptances, after 12 auditions at schools and NYC unifieds. She has the chops and is a talented performer, always cast in HS leads and successfully was admitted to and completed CCM summer prep. Lots of professors, teachers, and directors told us she would have no problem. We were heartbroken last year to receive NO offers. She’s a petite brunette soprano, solid actor, 10 years dedicated dance training. Trained in classical voice as well. Attended a performing arts high school. SO! It can be rough!! But here we are again. One year later, I’m proud of her that she has not let her dream die. She has been attending community college for a year and doubling up on dance, acting, and voice training. She did Chicago Unifieds this year and we are back in the waiting game. No “no” answers yet this year. No “yes” answers yet either. The hope is alive! Last year I read a lot of “keep the faith” comments here, and I don’t mean to be a pessimist, but I have to insert a word of caution that it is possible to get shut out, especially as the competition gets tougher. In retrospect I wish we’d had more safety schools last year. We probably had a list that was too aspirational. I wish everyone luck. The month of March should be interesting!
Congratulations @mezzomother! How exciting!!
@emdcollege sorry to hear about the talent scholarship. We’ve had discussions on CC about how most schools give very little because the funds just aren’t there. I wonder if they considered the merit portion when deciding so that many students could receive a little bit. Good luck to her. Having options is always nice
@ MI3rdClosingAct - Heard from Hartt though snail mail. Love those big envelopes…
My S got two “yeses” today. (He doesn’t want me to divulge schools as of now.)
One funny thing: He got an email acceptance from a school he auditioned for in November but did not apply. He did not apply because he thought it was the worst audition of his life. He did not know going in they would be filming his audition, and it completely threw him off kilter. He also forgot they wanted shorter versions of songs so he almost forget the words for a song he did at that audition.
Terrific news, congratulations!
Received an email today from NYU Steinhardt. It says they are preparing to notify (or something like that) and asks that you notify them if you’ve already committed elsewhere. Could be academic-related only though. Look at me trying to read the tea-leaves!
@DramaMan how ironic! Congrats to your son!
@back2work and @savedrama4momma and everyone else, thank you for your kind words.
@mezzomother Thank You! If you don’t mind me asking, when did she audition? She must be so excited.
@back2work That is my fear. My daughter has 8 rejections so far (including pre-screens), ten yet to hear from, but only a couple left that she is really excited about. Program faculty and working alumni are important factors to her…plus a university education. Accepted to a local safety but she doesn’t want to go there (not many safeties where we live and I’m not sending her far away and spending $100k+ on a safety). Still praying and trying to keep the faith. 10 years formal voice training, dance lessons since 3, production experience limited here but does what she can every year…coaches and staff at summer MT programs all say she has what it takes. But she’s a caucasian female, so…
@back2work break a leg to her this year. Were you on CC last year as well? I don’t remember following your journey so I’m thinking you weren’t but you’re definitely in the right place now!
Can someone explain how to tag a person in my reply? Thank you!
@mommaofdrama I think everyone received that email. I wonder if NYU will be sticking to the tradition of making everyone bite their fingernails until April 1st
@mezzomother ~ use the @ and their screen name.
Has anyone heard any updates on Ball State acceptances? I know calls were made last night but haven’t heard about any tonight. Dying over here. Congrats to all acceptances made today!!
@MI3rdClosingAct - She auditioned for Hartt at NYC Unifieds, on January 19th.
NYU’s acceptances for all majors go out together, so close to April 1. You can follow the admission department blogs for updates. NYU gives talent scholarships (need and non-need) to music and art students to try to convince the most talented students to commit. Once that money is offered, it is gone–they want to give it to the candidates who are most likely to attend. They know that top students may have heard from other programs already and committed. From their perspective, they don’t want to use up their budget for scholarships on students who have no intention of accepting.
We got our Mountclair socks today! :))
