Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

Thanks! No, I didn’t post last year, though I’ve definitely been reading and appreciating everyone else’s stories all the way. Good to hear from so many others in the same process. Here’s hoping everyone finds the right fit this year.

Thank you @VoiceTeacher I appreciate it.

In regards to scholarships, parents and students often tend to think in terms of what is earned or deserved or even as validation. But talent scholarships - and academic ones for that matter - are awarded by what the COLLEGE NEEDS. In a conservatory, they may need to attract a first chair oboe player more than a soprano MT student. OR a less-than-known college trying to build a strong MT presence may award talent scholarships to a solid MT student to bring them on board. College scholarships are wonderful, but aren’t necessarily validation of talent. A scholarship can be taken into account financially of course, but I wouldn’t let it influence a school decision about how much the school wants your student.

Are Ithaca’s acceptance letters large or small?

@work64 My D received a large white envelope from Ithaca.

Any other Portals that should be opening by tomorrow? It is Only 3/2 and “mid march” feels like 2019 right now. The wait is ridiculous! I’d love to hear about Suny Purchase much more sooner than later

My D heard that Texas State has already filled 10 spots, 5 guys and 5 girls and will be making calls this weekend. Anyone else hear anything about Texas State?

@belleforbroadway we know a girl that was called on tuesday and was accepted

@belleforbroadway I heard similar numbers of offers for Texas State. But not sure if that factors that some of those kids might pick CCM, Michigan, Carnegie Mellon, Pace, Elon, Baldwin Wallace, etc. I don’t think any class is “filled” until Carnegie Mellon makes its calls.

I heard that after making the calls they will send out their rejections and “priority hold” emails.

My D was sent a Priority Hold email for Texas State on 2/18 which said that she was in the very small pool of kids still being considered for spots and that decisions hadn’t been made yet, then received a rejection email late last week, so I think they’re well into the process of notifying kids.

@DramaMan and @JayCee17 Thanks. So there is still hope.

Quick question if anyone knows- I received a call from Texas State accepting me to the general college, but haven’t been notified about the MT program. I’m guessing it’s just a nice way of rejecting, but does anyone know for sure? Thanks!

@jenrenalt D received that call also, just an acacemic acceptance. I would not consider that a rejection until you receive the official rejection letter via email. But hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones to get the BFA acceptance call.

@danils Okay, thanks! yes same for you too! Good luck

Also does anyone remember when CMU is sending decisions?

Texas State is still making decisions and making offers. If you haven’t received a no you are still in the running.

As to CMU, they usually wait until the third or 4th week in March before making offers.

If you follow CMU on twitter (and probably other social media), they will start to tweet out the date for acceptances. All are done at the same time.

I have a question about talent scholarships. S is almost ready to send the deposit, and get off of this crazy train, but we haven’t received talent scholarship information yet. If we go ahead and commit, will it affect what they offer him?

At least last year, about this time, they sent a rejection email to those “no longer in the run”. The email was very straightforward “Re regret to inform you that…” so no doubts about it. Everyone else was still part of the pool. The following Friday, a few lucky ones got an email saying “You are still in the pool”, and the rest got rejections. So bottom line, until you get the rejection email, you are still there…
