Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@HopeinMT Hang in there! March is just awful, way worse than the application and audition months, when at least you and your S/D feel like you are taking action. Forfeiting your active participation is the WORST, in my opinion. My D got a tough no on March 30, and another one on the morning of March 31, and her happiest yes on March 31, late afternoon last year. STAY STRONG. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

I believe Montclair is on Spring Break. Hang in there everyone. The waiting is the worst part! I remember it all too well.

Hi. Re: Pace, is the info that went out Acceptance or Rejection? For FTV or BFA Acting? Via e-mail?

Visiting campus while still on the Wait list…yes or no?

@evcvmom … if my kiddo was on a wait list of a school she highly desired, I would …

  1. definitely visit

and

  1. encourage my D to express her interest in the program via email to the powers that be

@evcvmom if you can swing it why not. I was planning on taking my D to visit UNCSA when she was on the WL but it ended up being more expensive than I thought it would be. I finally decided it wasn’t a good idea to spend more money when she may not get in…and she didn’t! But if you can drive there you should do it.

@mommaofdrama was LIU MT acceptance just theater acceptance or scholarship also? When was the audition? My D received acceptance for LIU MT last Monday, but no update on scholarship yet.

@evcvmom YES! If you can. I also agree with @marg928 - cost is definitely a factor.

@M2twins my daughter was accepted to LIU’s theater program back in November. We then applied to the school and once the school accepted her academically is when we got our scholarship offer. From what I understand they offer no “talent” scholarships but the school will give sizeable merit scholarships. I may be wrong on that though as I asked my daughter to follow up on that instead of doing it myself. I also saw an earlier post from someone about LIU and talent scholarships that were offered. As the acceptances have been going out I’ve been meaning to contact the department to inquire about that.

@evcvmom - Definitely yes. A friend of ours was waitlisted for her top school last year. She called them every other day and kindly asked if anything had changed. The admissions counselor suggested she come to the MT admitted students day - which she did. She asked questions, showed herself to be positive and curious about the college. She was called the next day and told that they decided to open up a spot for her. Not kidding!

So really confused about how Pace MT informs kids of the decisions… has anyone received a call?

@fancytheatrekid D auditioned for Manhattan School of Music at unifieds in New York this year.

@mthopeful17 D auditioned at New York unifieds for Montclair in January. Still haven’t heard anything.

@M2twins we got the academic acceptance and scholarship offer a while back. Yesterday was just a small envelope with the artistic acceptance

@Work64 Pace usually calls and to the best of my knowledge, MT hasn’t started yet.

@Work64 @stmama my D heard 3/15 for Pace

I would love anyone to answer this if you have any advice…Starting to get nervous about getting accepted to any schools. Do you really think a thank you note would make a difference? Or would schools not expect a sought after performer to send one? I don’t want to risk making a mistake.

I encouraged my D to write a thank you note (email) after each audition, just as one would do in a job interview. I’m not sure if it makes a difference but I felt it was a good skill/habit for my daughter to have. Of all the emails, only one prof emailed back - which we did not expect but it was lovely for her to receive.

@fancytheatrekid My son wrote handwritten thank you notes to his auditors at each school. He did have conversations with each of them so it seemed appropriate & more personal to do so. We know some other kids who did not send notes and many who emailed theirs. I don’t think it guarantees anything but it is a nice touch. He has been told in Master Classes that it is a nice thing to do. He knows kids who have received acceptances who did not do thank you notes.

@fancytheatrekid we got a few very nice responses back and then an artistic rejection LOL. Then just when we were joking about that, 2 email responses back from one school -then a yes! I agree with you @mtmom911 it reinforces a great skill and shows initiative and professionalism. Might give them a chance to interact one more time with you. I don’t think it makes or breaks anything- but certainly can’t hurt. For my daughter it was a nice exercise to do - especially with adjudicators/ schools she had a good connection with at her audition!
