Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@fancytheatrekid Our coach did not encourage or discourage writing thank you notes. They said it was totally a personal choice. My D felt it was sucking up so she didn’t want to do it lol. It certainly couldn’t hurt although normally you would send it right after the audition. Not sure how I feel about sending a note now if the audition was in January. I personally don’t think it’s going to make or break a decision though. My D had five BFA offers and a few WL with no thank you notes.

Penn State decisions are in the portal.

Some will disagree. I don’t think that you notes make even one iota of difference.

Re: thank yous. I concur with @marg928. Same advice that it’s personal preference. Of course I believe writing thank yous is a great life skill, and are so appropriate in other situations.

@fancytheatrekid I agree with all above but to be realistic here. I and a few others have also posted some schools that are still accepting video auditions. It appears that most of the schools have made their decisions and are rolling them out to students right now. There is absolutely nothing wrong with adding more schools right now to increase your acceptance chances. I honestly was a bit stressed that we hadn’t heard from our local less-known bfa program until 2 days ago. The waiting to be accepted anywhere is quite stressful. Thank You may be nice but a bit late especially if the school has formed their accepted and waitlisted. There is no better time than now

I agree wholeheartedly that thank you notes do not make a difference. It’s really about helping my D develop a skill set for a lifetime of job interviews (or auditions). Plus, in this crazed fast paced time, it allowed her to stop and think through how she felt, what she wants etc. All in all, a good personal exercise. But does it win you points with auditors? No, lol!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with thank you notes - but I refuse to believe that if a school wants a kid, they would decline them based on the absence of a note. And on the flip side - I refuse to believe that a school would have been about to decline a kid… until they got that hand written note. Best case scenario - they remind the school that you exist, and are interested. And yes, it’s polite.

Parents who are waiting… this is the moment when you start to second guess and rethink every nuance and detail - I remember it well - but it won’t help. If you did, that’s nice, but I (personally) don’t think it will change the outcome. If you didn’t, don’t stress, it won’t change the outcome

Learning how to follow up on auditions is a good lesson for our teens to learn now and prepares them for the professional world of audition protocol.

@Notmath1 very true. My D who graduated and is now making a go of it definitely sends thank you notes after attending workshops where she meets directors/casting agents/agencies but does not send them after regular auditions.

S (college senior) often sends thank you emails after masterclasses.

@back2work wishing your D all the best this year!!

D sent thank you notes after a rejection, thanking the auditors for making the audition a pleasant experience. Obviously not going to change their minds, but still a nice gesture. The world could always use a little more kindness.

And, if you’re only going to do thank you notes if there’s an extrinsic reward, who knows what the future holds? Maybe some day she’ll be working with those people or their students.

This semester at NYU D has “Industry Nights” once a week, where they bring in casting directors, agents etc - and the kids perform for them. (this is their version of showcase) All students have “postcards” (electronic and regular) of headshot etc which they can use to follow up. The profs made a big deal that you SHOULDN’T send one to every single person who comes in - that just leads to overload. You SHOULD when you have a specific connection - whether that is conversation, they made suggestions etc. In other words, if they show interest, you show some back.

Hello everyone. I was wondering if you knew how Penn State and Hartt communicates acceptances. I see some East Coast acceptances and wonder if they mail their letters and we haven’t received them here in the West Coast…

Any tips,I will really appreciate.

^^^At least for Penn State, you should check the portal.

@DramaRama we are east coast and so far no letter from Hartt, i heard it is in the order of your audition? Not sure if that is correct? We were Chicago Unifieds… no news yet.

Based on last year, PACE called for acceptances and mailed waitlists and rejections. The staff was extremely helpful last year. We posted on the special link by theatre school, and someone from the staff was kind to tell us things like “due to a snow storm, the mail was not picked up, hence letters did not go out”. He also said one day “all letters have been mailed”.
Most people received their answer between 3/15 and 3/23

@DramaRama Hartt acceptance came via snail mail…not sure on Penn as D didn’t apply there…I’m sure someone else here can advise.

@toowonderful with Tisch being such a great program. Did your daughter find that the majority of her class had agents or paid positions post graduation or something lined up prior to ?

Someone on Green Room heard from Wagner by phone call last night. Anyone else? I am trying to stop myself from grabbing D’s phone and checking for recent calls.
