Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

OU will have last auditions this Saturday

Hi - another lurker here. My daughter has done a lot of musical theater, but ultimately decided to pursue vocal performance/opera. I’m not sure if anyone else auditioned for VP at Baldwin Wallace, but those emails are out now too. A yes here - now we are just waiting for scholarship offers from 4 schools including a top choice. Opera is not as hard a MT - my heart goes out to all of you. the waiting is so hard

@fancytheatrekid and any others wishing they’d cast a wider net. Got a notice that AMDA ia still taking applications for another week.

I have a D who applied to 18 MT programs this year - and I just found this thread and laughed out loud that I am not the only insane person that has not slept in 6 months! This whole process is horrible, although might be a good way to find out if the kids have what it takes to be in this business. I, apparently, am not since I think it is making me physically ill!

I wanted to say that we know a young man who did not decide to major in MT until the end of his senior year - he is an amazing singer but did not consider it a career until he got involved in Community Theatre. He decided to not go to the college he had accepted for another major. He was in several shows, took dance lessons (much needed LOL) and auditioned this year. He has been accepted into several good schools, is waitlisted at BW and still waiting for his dream school. Just wanted to mention this as an option for those not prepared or need more time.

After my D got 10 rejections and not even a waitlist, I formulated a backup plan of applying to her favorite BA program that lets you re-audition after the first year. She is an amazing dancer but started the singing and acting later. She is a hard worker with positive energy who everyone loves working with, but reserved so had difficulty showing who she is in the time frame of an audition. So I thought once they get to know her, there was a better chance of her being accepted.

All that being said - she did get her first acceptance last week to Ball State and was out of her mind excited and I am so relieved I have slept like a baby this week! We are still waiting for her dream school Point Park (of course since she is a dancer in her soul!) I have noted that in all her auditions, there were only 2 she came out of with a glow and smile she couldn’t wipe off her face…Ball and PP! They say you know when you find your school and her experience proved that is true. I believe getting an acceptance isn’t just about talent…it’s about connecting with the school and staff. Too bad it takes months of agony not to mention 1000 dollars UGH to find the right place for them!

Wishing Good Luck to Everyone - esp to the kids who I know work so hard for their dreams!

@jenniferm1973 and @Mom2E, did OU add another audition date? I thought their last callback date was 3/2.

@dramamama2022 March 10 is listed on their website

@Mom2E, are you talking about University of Oklahoma? The last date I see on their website is 3/2 and my D thought Decisions would come out this week.

@dramamma2022 yes … google OU BFA auditions and you will see ou.edu with the dates

@Mom2E, I think that’s for the School of Drama. If you go to the following page, it shows the last audition date for the School of Musical Theatre was 3/2.

My D is waiting for a decision for MT so if anyone has gotten a call, please let us know.

@MTdreamz congrats on that first acceptance! My D is a sophomore BFA MT at Point Park. They usually release their decisions via email all at once mid-March, so you won’t have much longer to wait! Fingers crossed for your D!

@dramamama2022 I did a search on CC and first rejections were 3/17/17 last year for MT… hunker down its so stress inducing!

Hang in there @fancytheatrekid ! I have my fingers crossed for a yes tomorrow so you can breathe this weekend!

We are waiting on OU also. Hang in there @raddyjo !

Thank You @CTDramaMom! Yes - Next wednesday is the day! I have considered staying home from work but decided I needed the distraction. She will not hear a word in her classes that day haha! She has dreamed of living in a city and loved the atmosphere being so focused on the performing arts, and that she can get a dance minor that sadly most schools don’t offer. They had her dance several times and then called her back to work on her songs again. I know that is a good sign, but she auditioned there in November so it’s hard to believe they will remember her after 1000 more girls. All we can do is wait…and hope!

Interesting day today. My D got an email from TCU while we were desperately refreshing and waiting for the BW emails to post. It was a redirect to BA at TCU. Then the BW email came, she is on the waitlist. Not even 5 minutes later she received the crazy phone call from Illinois Wesleyan which was a no thank you but would you like to be considered for our BA. Thirty minutes later an email from Oklahoma City University which was a yes. Quite a ride today!

That IS quite a day @belleforbroadway! Congrats!!!

@MTdreamz, congrats on Ball State and best of luck with PP! My D is still waiting to hear from both of them and others.

@fancytheatrekid, I bet your first acceptance is right around the corner!

Break legs to those still waiting on OU!

It looks like next week is a huge week for all of us.

Thanks for sharing what you know about OU, @Mom2E.

Crazy day, @belleforbroadway! An acceptance an a waitlist are super exciting. My D got the “no thank you” from TCU also. She loved the campus and the program, so that was disappointing.

@MTdreamz, my daughter is still waiting for PP also plus a few others. Thanks for the info to expect that news next Wednesday.

Break legs to everyone! My prayer is that all of our kids have at least one option that they are excited about.

My D just got a phone call from one of the schools where she auditioned for MT. They called her and of course she thought they were offering her a spot in the BFA program but instead they said she didn’t get into the BFA program but would she like to be in their BA Theatre Arts

She auditioned early – November. She thought it went really well and felt that the auditioners really connected with her. I guess with 100s of kids auditioning it just wasn’t enough. My D is so much stronger than me though. I asked if she wanted to take a minute and cry(because that’s what I would do) but she just laughed and said No! I’m learning this is harder on us.
