Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@JayCee17, that stinks! You expect a phone call to be better news. My D has also been rejected / redirected at several schools where she thought she really connected but is taking the bad news in stride. As many have said, our kids need to learn that there is a lot of rejection in this industry. It helps that she has some acceptances in BFA Acting programs. Still waiting to see if she’ll get any MT acceptances.

@MTdreamz I can relate as my D is hoping to hear good news from PP for the exact same reasons! She would love to minor in dance (she’s been dancing all of her life) and it sounds like she had a very similar audition as your D…danced a few times for them, then they asked her to sing again and they wanted to hear the whole book…she felt it was one of her more positive auditions. She auditioned in December and we’re wondering if that was too long ago for them to remember her as well…my fingers are crossed for you! I guess we’lol know soon!

What’s up with a (safety) school offering a big talent scholarship that expires in March. Ugh… I guess they want time to offer it to a different candidate if we don’t commit? We were going to throw it in the mix as a school to consider- but now we might just need to cross it off the list since we need more time. Did this happen to anyone else?

After hearing all the stories of schools calling for a redirect to a BA - we have been stung twice. First we got a letter that I could read through the envelope had a big CONGRATULATIONS on the inside - and gave it to my D in front of her BF who is getting a lot of acceptances so she would have some good news for a change…and it was an acceptance to the BA program. She was so mad!! The next week my husband gets a message on our home phone answering machine congratulating her on her acceptance so he surprises her - we cry and and are overwhelmed with relief, until we listen again and realize they say nothing about the BFA MT program. Turns out to be just a courtesy call from a student because she is academically accepted. Can’t even tell you how disappointing that was! Left me numb and feeling hopeless. That is when the back up plan started formulating… and yes I did resort to wine to help me sleep that week! stay strong everyone!

Ball State is a wonderful program - congratulations! And good luck with Point Park!

Aw- @MTdreamz i want to give your daughter (and you) hugs!

@dramamama2022 Perhaps…we are en route there for my D’s audition tomorrow.

@BelleofBroadway and @dramamama2022 we are anxiously waiting to hear from TCU. I know you received your email yesterday Belle but may I ask when you found out drama? It’s most likely a no for us but now you’ve both got me wondering if my girl has heard and doesn’t want to tell me. Have you heard of anyone else being notified either way?

Edited to ask if the portal changed at all for you

@jenniferm1973, BAL at OU! We are super impressed with the faculty and students in both the Drama and MT schools! I recommend The Mont for queso and (for you) a frozen margarita / sangria swirl.

@emdcollege We haven’t heard from TCU for MT either- auditioned at NY unifieds-just checked portal and there’s no change

@emdcollege, my D didn’t set up her portal so was notified via email. Her interpretation is that she wasn’t offered a spot in either the MT or Acting program. They encouraged her to consider their BA program. She has other BFA options, so that doesn’t appeal to her. My D’s friend who also applied hasn’t heard anything so maybe no news is good news.

Ah yes, the “redirection” game - all they really want to do is re-direct your tuition money into their coffers!

We are waiting on TCU as well. Auditioned at LA Unifieds for MT program. My S had also sent the Acting program prescreens back in Nov and we didn’t hear squat from them. Paid the extra fee and crickets. Wonder if the submission got lost.
Next week is going to be so hard! My S will be in Nashville the entire week for a STN conference and I will be wondering if he gets any calls or emails. Ugh, just let me know now and get this over with!!!

@savedrama4momma - rather than cross it off your list, I would call the admissions office and ask for more time if you are truly interested in the program.

@HopeinMT, my D is also out of town next week. She’s gone from Wednesday through Sunday for the Florida State Thespians competition. She’s forbidden me from opening up her mail (but that won’t stop me from holding it up to the light. lol)

@savedrama4momma I remember this issue of early commitment in March coming up last year. As I remember it, the consensus then was that it’s considered bad form for a school to put this extra burden on an applicant still waiting to hear from other schools. If you apply general admission, you are supposed to have until May 1. I would call and politely explain that you are unable to commit until you know all your options. It isn’t even about MT audition / artistic acceptances; it’s about your right to make a decision based on the financial picture for every school where a student has been accepted. But maybe others on this forum have other suggestions for how to handle it (?)

FYI, my D said via The Green Room that Pace calls just started.

Real Pace artistic calls LOL?

Always wonder why they would call during the school day. Most kids are unavailable.

Real calls, not just the horrible admin one! Haha!
