Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@belleforbroadway when did she audition for IWU?

@mtmaybe IWU audition was November 18th. She did her TCU audition on December 3rd, if that helps those waiting.

we were told by a college that no one can make you decide before May 1…

Can someone PM me how to find Green Room on FB. My D cannot find the group… and it truly is for her, not me

@MThopeful2022 sounds like our D’s are 2 peas in a pod! She got frustrated that schools seemed to be looking for singers that can dance instead of dancers that can sing… The fact that she has danced for 14 years didn’t really help like we thought it would…as a matter of fact she was actually reprimanded several times by adding anything to the audition routines to show she could dance. Also dissapointed that most schools don’t offer a true triple threat program for good dancers…although there were a few that she didn’t apply to because of location that are stronger in dance (ie Boston and anywhere in the western half of the country LOL)

Did your D apply to Roosevelt? my D auditioned there for MT with dance emphasis

@MTdreamz My D said it was hard to hold back in some of the dance calls but was careful to only give the auditors what they asked for and kept her improv pieces to suit the dance style being provided. Apparently there are unspoken rules/guidelines to dance improv that I was not aware of (but she was I guess). She didn’t apply to Roosevelt but wanted to apply to as many schools as she could that had strong dance backgrounds and we’re in proximity to nyc. Honestly, I noticed a bit of a pattern…if the audition had a dance call, she enjoyed it more and came away feeling it was a more positive experience.

@MThopeful2022 and @MTdreamz You are both describing my daughter last year: lots and lots of dance training and frustration with schools that didn’t seem to value it as much as she believes the MT art form requires. There were auditions when auditors seemed to go out of their way to tell applicants not to worry a bit about not being dancers. No one ever told her she didn’t need to know how to sing . . . but she also wanted a school where her voice would improve, and that’s what she found. From talking to people in the field I get the sense that every student who enters an MT BFA program needs work in every area, and programs understand that and look for a balanced class of varying first strengths coming in. Good luck to your daughter! Her dance training and talent will serve her well.

@MThopeful2022 My D didn’t have any improv in her auditions other than what was submitted through Acceptd prescreens. I guess someone should have told her not to do 3 turns instead of 1, but she said if they didn’t appreciate her dancing then she didn’t want to go to that school anyway! haha! Syracuse gave her a hard time about everything she did (even being on releve!) so she walked out and never looked back! Ball State told her they loved her triple and guess what - they accepted her so she is ok with that! although they do not have a dance minor… she only auditioned for PACE in NYC - I don’t think she is ready for NY (and I know I’m not!) so trying to keep her closer to the midwest.

All I know is that my D who thought she knew everything when she went into her freshman year BFA Acting program came home after 6 weeks and told me that she realized she knew nothing! LOL. And even today after graduating in May, she is still learning!

does anyone know if Pace doesn’t call you today does that mean you are not accepted? I’m pretty sure the answer is yes but i saw on a Pace post a mom that said her S never got a call but then got accepted… My D said about 10 girls in Green Room said they were accepted- this is going to be a LOOOOOOONNNNNNG weekend!

@Trish0118 this will be a long day! Pace is one of our top choices. If they accepted my S he would be happy to stop it all now and commit. We will be crushed if he gets rejected. Better prepare myself.

@Trish0118 Pace likely makes most of initial offers today. But bear in mind some of those kids got into Michigan or CCM,etc. or are waiting on CMU. No idea what Pace’s yield is and whether they only offer first based on class size. I know CCM makes more offers than spots based on expected yield. But some only offer initially to the exact class size and then go from there. Also in past years Pace has made calls in waves. But not sure what plan is for this year.

@#booknerdmom - my D is a freshman at Wagner in Theatre Performance. LOVES it. If your S wants to talk about the program, let me know - I’ll get you her info. As for the acceptances - some kids got calls others just their envelopes. My D received a letter saying she was waitlisted, but the letter specifically said she was at the top - (or wording like that, I would have to pull out the letter) - so she immediately contacted the counselor and expressed her interest. She was planning on going to Wagner either way, she loved it that much. She did receive a call in late March telling her she was given a spot. Her counselor had made 3 calls that night and D was one of them. A few of D’s close friends also came in off the WL. Once kids start deciding where they are committing, spots open up. Good Luck to those still waiting!

@HopeinMT Same here- my D fell in love at the Summer Scholars this summer- although being in that program doesn’t mean anything as far as getting accepted- she did love it there–I think she feels even more rejected after participating in that- she’s feeling like it’s probably a no because they would have called already. I’m amazed at how hard this whole thing is on her and me. I literally can barely think of anything else. My friends are probably sick of listening to me talk about it at this point. i don’t even want to be around myself.I didn’t think it would be this HARD. thanks for listening MT moms! those waiting…Try to enjoy your weekends!

@cgmndt - congrats to your D - and with all due respect I disagree that opera is easier than MT (and my D is in MT) - however, she was trained by 2 opera singers and I was on a regional opera board for many years. I think the opportunities for opera singers are far less than for those of MT - and even after undergrad degrees and masters many of the singers we worked with still had to do a lot of pay to perform. How wonderful for your D to land at BW! I wish her all the best! (but don’t short change her accomplishment!!!)

@MTdreamz my dancing daughter also auditioned for Roosevelt MT dance. She fell in love with the school last summer when she spent a week there. I told her at the beginning to not fall in love with any one school but she is seriously crushing on the CCPA program. This is going to be a long week waiting for them to announce decisions. Best of luck to your girl

hmmmm @emdcollege my daughter was there last summer too! and loved it! she was disappointed that the dean was not in her audition room - which by the way was in her socks because she forgot her good shoes at the hotel! :)) Also, her dance audition was the only one she heard about that DID NOT do the routine - just some technique and combinations and then the instructor said she had seen enough! The kids looked around and said is that good or bad??? lol she was verrry upset about that. Anyway - her vocal teacher (UM grad) prefers Ball State but he doesn’t understand the importance of the dance which we have already invested a year of college tuition into so don’t want to start over taking basic classes…

Usually I’m thrilled when there is a check and no bills in the mail. Today… not so much.

It’s so great to hear your D loves Wagner - my D is admitted and will, for sure, try to set up a shadow day.

(I thought I already responded but doesn’t seem to be here) hmmm @emdcollege my daughter was there last summer too and loved it! But she was disappointed when the dean wasn’t in her audition room - which by the way she wore socks into because she forgot her good shoes in the hotel! :)) She was also mad because her dance audition was the only one that didn’t do the dance routine - they just did technique and combos then the instructor said she had seen enough - the kids all looked around and wondered if that was a good sign or a bad sign LOL

Her vocal coach said he preferred Ball State but they don’t have a dance minor and I don’t think he understands that we have already invested in a years worth of college funds into her dance and don’t like the idea of starting over! Plus my daughter loves the idea of living in a city! Of course, all of this doesn’t matter unless she gets in… :-w
