@MTdreamz and @MThopeful2022 , just fyi, Montclair’s rejection letter is a bait-and-switch. My D got an email saying the decision was made and to check her portal. So she did, but at first it looked like nothing had changed except the audition was now marked “received.” But there’s a place that says “Decision Letter.”
So she clicked on that, and the letter came up, and it said something like: “Congratulations! We are delighted to welcome you to Montclair University! We were notified by the theater department that you were not accepted into your chosen program, so we’re accepting you as undeclared major.”
I think it is VERY cruel to start a rejection letter with “Congratulations!”
@actorparent1 thanks for the heads up! We got a snail mail like that congratulating her on her acceptance to a BA program. Although undeclared is worse! We haven’t been checking any portals - she deals with the stress by not checking! LOL but when she checked she didn’t see anything.
My D and I spent a long time talking about it today and she is actually good with the 1 solid acceptance she has and we still have 5 more programs to hear from so I think it’s all good!
We got the Montclair congrats you’re rejected too… but even worse was a double rejection from a favorite school that she was really hoping for!!! An email rejection a few weeks ago and then this week a rejection letter in the mail. Luckily my D can laugh about that at this point in the process. “Oh yay, I’m rejected twice”.
My D was waitlisted yesterday at both CCPA and Emerson… and very happy to still be in the running at both schools if others don’t accept offers. Glad she continues to maintain such a good attitude through this whole process! Helping our kids through this and maintaining normalcy as much as possible at home seems to be our greatest mission at the moment.
Quick question for the group about Hartt. D auditioned in Dec for Early Action and they deferred her decision until regular decision. I see they have be sending out Acceptances. I was wondering if they were sending out “no’s” as well. We are trying to see if no news is bad news. D sent an email to admissions but has not heard back yet.
@SAS0792 - My D is a Jr. at Hartt and they are notoriously slow about notifications and they do come out in a dribble. We were fortunate that D was an early action admit, but I know from others that the experience can be frustrating. Be patient, and you should be hearing soon, but probably not this week, as they are on spring break as of yesterday. BAL, and let me know if you have any questions about the program. My D is very happy there!
We have been fending off a barrage of rejections through the worst flu! This AM it was BU.
Every school where there has been an acceptance has asked me for more extra FAFSA paperwork and income verification.
Every acceptance. Every rejection has asked for nothing extra
All remaining schools have not. This makes me believe they are a no
The one heartbreaker for us will be NYU.
I think this may have been covered somewhere else but is this a possible way to read the tea leaves??
Also …are Pace and Purchase Acting calls done (sigh) ??
Congratulations on all the good news. Take heart those with sh***y news- you are not alone and this process is insane and makes no sense!
@laylamom I see that you have been cursed. I have been cursed with FAFSA since college and graduated school and I think my son has inherited my curse. We have to always upload more paperwork for financial aid for each college acceptance. Even after the CSS Profile. I wish there was 1 more site that they can just pull from. It’s frustrating. I’ve decided to just upload the schools that he is really considering.
My S. Friend received a call from Suny Purchase yesterday afternoon. I guess the boy’s calls had started. Someone said that they would be making calls all week but if it’s only an acceptance of 16-18 kids, I couldn’t imagine it would take that long
Speaking of NYU, I have noticed on Naviance that 30 Kids from my S School have applied to NYU. Since it’s a performing arts school, one can’t help to assume that it’s for Tisch. This means that his chances have probably dropped a LOT. I can’t imagine a college accepting so many from just 1 school. Ugh
OK. With a no from Boston University this am, D has heard from all of her schools. I am feeling very blessed, relieved and excited, as she has great choices. As we wait for the financial stuff to roll in from 2 acceptances (already received from the other 2), she will start scheduling visits. She is on 0 waitlists-only received acceptances or rejections-and this also feels like a blessing, since this is year 2. She really wants to know where she is going in August; and she wants to commit to “the one”, and notify the others. I am pulling for all of your kids, and can’t wait for Final Decisions to start rollin’ in!
Congratulations @owensfolks! So happy for your D, now comes the fun part, visiting accepted programs. My D still has a few to hear from + quite a few wait lists. Looking forward to being in your place soon! Enjoy your visits.
Great post, @owenfolks! I’m so happy for you! And your story proves that it IS possible to forge ahead and get your happy ending even after a disappointing audition year. Very inspirational!
