Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@mamacordoba sorry if my post was confusing we did not hear from Hartt
Also I called BALL state and they are notifying everyone this Friday by email …she said they are working on the waitlist now and you may get a call to get on that and if you don’t get called you will be notified on Friday via email with their decision - I think then it would be a no but don’t quote me on that

@Trish0118 OMG!! thank you for being so informative!! If only BSU could be this communicative!

@MTMomof2 I would vote for BA programs & dance minor program at BW over Muhlenberg every time. BW is so well-known for the caliber of their talent. Congratulations to your son’s acceptances!

Just starting to chime in here on the site. I appreciate all of the great info from everyone! This whole thing is such a crazy process and there is so much to learn so quickly. Looking forward to this roller coaster pulling back into the station to end this ride.

I also called Ball State this week for my D. Seems like there are a lot of students are still waiting to hear from that school. They said we would know this week. I asked them if it would be a WL or a no and she told me it will either be a WL or a redirect to one of their other programs.

@MTMomof2
Not sure where you’re located, or what your S is looking for re:location, but I 2nd @daughtersdreams choice of BW. It’s just outside the city of Cleveland, and if cost is a factor, “with average aid” BW comes in at about $26k and Muhlenberg at $40k.
We’ve not visited BW yet, but drove through Muhlenbergs campus, which is lovely, but not “happening” enough for my S. (We are a year behind you in this search, as my S is a Jr.)
Best of luck to all of you on this adventure!

@PaMTmom …can you tell me who you emailed? We emailed Kim Whittman shortly after her audition because they messed up and didn’t have her on the list that day! They did have her folder and everything but she wasn’t listed. She emailed to make sure she wasn’t lost in the shuffle and received a rather short reply that they had record of her audition and it would be updated when a decision was made. It would be helpful to know who you directed the email to or do I call general admissions. Thank you so much to everyone who responded…unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a pattern with being notified by Montclair!

@Nordeal- S emailed Kim Whittman who told him she contacted Clay James who relayed to her that he was on the WL. I was worried S was lost in the shuffle as well because he scheduled an audition on campus but wound up auditioning beforehand at NYC unifieds (I guess technically as a walk in) since he had time and they were agreeable to it.

For those still waiting for the snail mail from Molloy/CAP21: Molloy was on spring break last week, and was closed on Monday due to “electrical issues.” Today, there’s another nor’easter happening in NY (number 4). Hang in there!

@MTMomof2 i would use some caution in going the BW route of the BA in Acting and directing with a dance minor . Only because there are numerous threads addressing the problems of attending a BA program in a school known for its MT BFA. Plus that major is not out of the Conservatory either but the theatre dept. which is not a bad thing of course but just totally different. It just might be an issue if your S is really an MT kid & will always feel like he’s missing the MT Dept etc. plus it’s not the BFA Acting major either so there’s another thing. Just something to think about. I’m guessing both depts collaborate sometimes but @artskids could comment on that since she has a S there in MT.
Now if your son is really interested in acting directing and wanting a more broad experience then of course it could be a good option and yes cheaper then Muhlenberg . I will say at Muhlenberg he would be on the same path as everyone else in that BA. We visited Muhlenberg & that is a small campus but so is BW .

I agree with many of the points @theaterwork makes. In situations where schools have both BA and BFA programs, the faculty and course progression is not often the same. I know D would not want to be in a BA program unless she was getting the same or similar opportunities as the BFA kids. I don’t really know how the BA program works at BW, though. I do know that BW has open casting so he could be auditioning along side the BFA majors. D’s BA school is Muhlenberg, too. We have a number of family acquaintances who attend or who have attended and most have great things to say about the BA program there.

I’m from the NYC area, and Muhlenberg has an excellent reputation in the area with many talented students attending and a strong network. So it probably depends on where he wants to end up auditioning. I agree that he will be at the same level as everyone else at Muhlenberg, but not at BW where his training and opportunities will be limited vs MT BFA students.

As far as Muhlenberg, yes everyone is on the same level, including non-theater majors. We know a sophomore there and she was cast in the first show her freshman year in a main role and she is not majoring in theater (although she was the star of all the shows at our HS.)

I know one person who went the BA route at BW hoping that there would be some crossover, and they could perhaps parlay that into a transfer into MT. It did NOT work that way, they were very disappointed, and left the school

My twin daughters are waiting on there last few schools, pace, NYU, BoCo, and then our next phase begins. They both have several choices which I could name, but one I wanted to see if any one had experience with, Studio School LA, previously Relativity. My one daughter has been in contact with them over her junior and senior year, after meeting there recruiter at a Thespian conference. We have visited the campus and sat in on classes, but would like to hear anyone else’s experience.

@M2twins I’ve been wondering what was going on with Relativity School. We went on a tour in August 2015, before my D’s junior year. I really wasn’t sold on it and D did not end up applying last year. They showed us all the facilities but I didn’t feel like there was much info about the program given to us. Seemed risky to me.

Any current Arcadia MT students/parents on here that might like to chat with me in PM about your experiences? Or public if you want to share with the group. Thank you!!!

Am I crazy (very possible, by the way after going through this process, lol) or is there a Rule that the Schools are supposed to give you their decision by April 1st (not including wait-listed students)?

My D is still waiting to hear from 7 schools, several of which have already rejected, wait-listed and accepted students. It feels like she’s on the “bubble” at a bunch of places.

@fairlyoddmom my D was accepted there MT and has a friend who is a freshman there. We attended an open house day and went to see their musical this year too! We auditioned on campus but then also met with the directors while we were at Unifieds for some additional questions we had. They were so gracious and spent a good while with both of us to chat about questions my D had. I’m not an expert on their program but I’m happy to help you out with any info i do know? Feel free to PM me!!

How long does it take to get a financial package after an artistic acceptance?? My D is still waiting for Point Park.

@fairlyoddmom @savedrama4momma I was impressed with Mark Wade during my S audition. He was saying all the right things about success post graduation, length of time to reach career/working success, realistic chances of getting hired as a BFA vs. jumping right in to try and work after HS. Feel like this program is a hidden gem and that there would be lots of personal attention. They offered good merit to my S.
