Does anyone have any knowledge of past experiences with the NYU waitlist? My D was waitlisted as well.
No direct experience, but I know 2 girls who were waitlisted in past years - one accepted late April - the other hung on nearly into June, then was notified that she was no longer under consideration
NYU’s waitlist is very fluid. Best of luck to all.
@K&Tmom thank you for that- i’d better contact them
My D was on NYU WL for Steinhardt and received an offer in Mid-May but with so little money that it would not have been feasible, and she was already committed to Hartt with nice financial package, so she stuck with her choice. I know that they do see movement every year, but you have to actually acknowledge and accept the WL position to continue to be in consideration and to receive a financial aid package. This was 3 years ago now though, things may have changed.
My d got her final rejection today. Which brings our grand total up to NO acceptances. Once again, not looking for advice (I’ve probably read every post about schools that are still accepting apps), I just need to vent and sulk. We already have some contingency plans in place (I cannot travel around the country to do this AGAIN, especially when no one else has accepted her, the odds are obviously not in our favor). We’re focusing on local and/or video submissions, and acting schools that do not grant a degree.
I just want to say to those who have acceptances: be grateful. My kid went from aiming super high, to basically praying that someone would take her. I was worried that the ones I ‘made’ her apply to would be the ones she’d get into, and that I’d have a difficult time convincing her to consider. Or that she’d open the envelope and shrug. We don’t even have that right now. This process started out being fun and exciting, and has ended up being a total nightmare. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.
Like @Trish0118, my d recently ended her run in her HS musical, as the lead. We too, had some press involved in a special evening she got to participate in. It makes this process all the more confusing, as I’m watching all this (that night on Broadway, literally) and wondering where we went wrong.
@DramaQueen219, no advice, just huge hugs and empathy for you and your D. This process is so awful.
@DramaQueen219 I am so sorry. There really is no rhyme or reason in this crazy process. Please don’t think you did anything wrong. Your D is obviously very talented and if she is determined to make it, she will somehow.
@DramaQueen219 hugs and understanding here for sure. This feeling is the worst and so confusing.
(((( @dramaqueen219))) I’m sorry this has happened to your D
@DramaQueen219 It’s not fair. Your daughter is obviously talented and it is just random and cruel. You are a wonderful, smart and supportive Mom- this is obvious from your posts. You will get through this and so will your wonderful daughter. Better days are ahead.
@DramaQueen219 I’m so sorry to hear that this is how your daughter’s college audition season is closing out. I’m thinking of you all, and hoping that one of the alternatives you are considering turns out to be the exact place she needs to take her to the next level. Hugs for you both.
My d is waitlisted at UAB. She auditioned in Chicago and loved what she learned about program. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am so sorry @DramaQueen219 I feel so badly for your D. She sounds so talented. You are both strong. This process has been a nightmare. Big hugs to you and your D.
@DramaQueen219 - I have no words… only hugs.
@DramaQueen219 - I’m so sorry. Although my daughter has a few choices, she too started this process with the highest of hopes and feels a hollowness because of all the rejections. I truly hope your D finds a way to continue with her dreams. I know how hard it is to even talk to them about it but my mantra throughout this whole terrible, soul sucking process is that there’s never just one path to your goal. If you want it you will be able to achieve it. Your D sounds amazing, as are you for surviving this!
@DramaQueen219 Hugs and understanding! This is a crazy process and often makes absolutely not sense!
@DramaQueen219 my heart breaks for you and your D. We went thru the process last year and it was brutal. D had a lot of rejections and got into the school she wanted by coming off the WL. I know this is hard for her to understand now, but this is not a reflection on her talent. So many factors go into what a school is looking for and frankly as a parent who had a kid go thru this last year, it was difficult to watch as rejections rolled in. Don’t let her give up - look at alternatives. There are a lot of great programs in NYC and maybe she can reevaluate and just do Unifieds next year. You obviously are a great support system to her and she is clearly talented. Just be there for her as she processes this and then help her come up with another plan.
I’ve been watching and contributing to these boards for 4 years now. IMHO, it’s getting harder every year. D recently said to me that she doubts she would be accepted to Molloy/CAP21 today. Not sure if that’s true because now I would know how to plan and advise D much better than I did – although hindsight is always 20-20. And folks, as horrible as the admission process is for these programs, it’s NOTHING compared to what goes on in the real world of trying to make it as a working actor, which is what D is facing now. So rest up for the next 4 years (although the summer booking stress will give you a few more gray hairs), then be prepared for Round 2 with your kiddos when they graduate. Sorry to sound like a downer, but as Hyman Roth said in “The Godfather Part 2”: “This is the life we’ve chosen!!”
@EastchesterMom couldn’t agree more!
