I know-Fredonia would be so much easier onr the wallet! And she really liked it there too! We are so lucky!
oh yeah I did. Thank you @Boilermom I might just stick around though because you guys are super supportive!
@NewEngMTMom you should ask. I know Wright state does not allow kids to re-audition. I believe point park does. Some schools take transfers (but you would probably still have to go 4 more years for BFA but maybe not for BA) Someone just posted that a student was in theater BA so when they got into BFA program the following year they were able to continue as a sophomore. Need to get specific answers from each school.
Yes, it depends on the school. Some don’t let you re-audition but lots do, it seems.
Congrats on Fredonia. My S17 is a BFA tech student and he really likes the school. I am going up next weekend with my 2 oldest kids and their SO’s to see Spring Awakening on Friday night and then we are taking S17 and the 6 of us are going to the Canada side of the falls on Saturday. On Sunday, we will return S17 to school and come home. The theater program is really good. I saw Peter and the Starcatcher in the fall and it was also very good.
Here is some info on which kids can audition for what shows:
“BFA Acting and Musical Theatre - Students must audition for all four plays and play as cast. They are not required to audition for the Fredonia Dance Ensemble, but are welcome to do so.
BFA Dance - Students must audition for the Fredonia Dance Ensemble. There is nothing to prepare; just bring appropriate dance attire and shoes and be prepared to move. They are welcome to audition for the plays, as well, but this is not required.
BA Theatre - Students have the option to audition for all five productions, for individual shows, or for nothing at all.
BFA Technical Production and Design - Students are not required to audition for anything, but are welcome to do so.”
In the performance of Peter, one student was cast who was not even a performing arts major.
Bottom line to you and @booknerdmom and anyone considering Fred - the school is a little gem. It’s a walkable campus, the town is cute. Also, if you are not accepted into the BFA, you can re-audition the next year. Finally, it’s really reasonably priced, especially for NY’ers. My COA for next year, as a full pay NYS resident ineligible for Excelsior is just under $21K. This year, S17 had $4500 in scholarships and grants, so far he has $2K lined up for next year. The 21 figure is without deducting the $2K. This doesn’t include books, transportation and sundries but I have found those to be less than the amounts quoted.
If you have any questions, please ask.
Wow @techmom99 What great info! Excited to go back and check Fredonia out some more!
I am so so happy about @fancytheatrekid and @Trish0118 acceptances!!!
@Luvmykids08 Ball State is a good school. Bonus: they get to make fun of the name.
LOL @GloriaVaughn my husband was so curious about the name he had to google where it came from! :))
There’s an accepted student reception next weekend. I don’t know how they run because we didn’t go last year, but as I mentioned before, the theater department is putting on Spring Awakening that weekend.
@GloriaVaughn @MTdreamz =)) As a Hoosier, I never EVER think about the name.
Until now. :))
@MTdreamz As long as their school colors don’t involve blue. They can claim that they are ballsy. If their book store has those draw string bags with the school name on it, does that make it a ball sack? See, they can have lots of fun making fun of themselves. Purdue gets referred to as Purdon’t. etc.
@techmom99 Would so love to see Spring Awakening! Unfortunately it is too big a trip, having just auditioned at Fredonia last weekend. D has rehearsals.
I didn’t realize that you were up there last weekend. I think my son helped with the tech auditions. It’s about an 8 hour trip for us. When I went in October, I flew with one of my other sons and rented a car at the airport.
@GloriaVaughn =D> @KaMaMom How could you not! We live in W Ohio so have always wondered but didn’t matter that much until my D got accepted - then we had to know! haha
That’s a no for Manhattan School of Music for us. Portal updated.
MSM is a WL for us.
Congrats MusTheaFam!
@GloriaVaughn and @MTdreamz, my husband is already making fun of the name LOL
@Luvmykids08 My daughter is at Ball State and loves it. She picked BSU for their great programs in Theatre and Telecommunications. She is a double major. While the entire BST&D program is large, it’s a tight knit group. While she chose the BA over the BFA, I can say it’s been a great fit for her. If you’d like more info feel free to PM me. Congrats!
