@cluelessandtired breathe??? No, now I worry about paying for it! Lol! Oh well, grateful even to have that to worry about!
OK, @EastchesterMom , that makes sense, and fair enough. I figured that was the case. Hard to know what to do!
@fancytheatrekid we are waiting on Wagner, as well.
Just a note about deposits and May 1 deadline, etc. If your child is on a waitlist, or several, but is leaning heavily toward a school that he/she has already been accepted to…I would perhaps think about just sending in the deposit and starting the housing deposit/selection process. Speaking from personal experience, last year my D was pretty much decided that she was attending one of her acceptances. BUT there was a very desirable waitlist in the picture. So she was hesitating to commit to the “bird in the hand” as that waitlist was SO tempting to wait on. I just said you know what, we need to get the bird in hand in motion & we will deal with the waitlist (and loss of deposit at other school) if that comes into play because at the end of the day we had SO much $$ tied up in the whole @#$% process what was another couple hundred? Plus tbh she was already getting entrenched in the school she was accepted to , had already joined an accepted MT Fb group, etc.
Turns out she did NOT get a spot off the waitlist /was released from it and I am glad I had already started sending deposits etc as she got the crappiest dorm this year as she was last group to sign up for housing. Her school started housing requests in February…which I am betting some of your all’s schools also have done. This was a factor at her school also as they have a slight housing shortage so one MT girl that decided later then my D ended up in a triple and in some temp housing till a spot opened up .
Just a thought…
@NewEngMTMom I just tried to message you and it cut off and lost my message three times. I give up, lol.
@NewEngMTMom So happy for your D! What an answer to prayers. We always have to wait the longest to get the best blessing (or… Good things come to thosse who wait…whichever way you want to put it!) CONGRATULATIONS!
@NewEngMTMom Congratulations!!! You’ve made my day.
For anyone on the WL at Emerson, my daughter just called them to ask a few questions. They told her that they take all of May to re-evaluate the list (and this is one list for the whole school not just MT or acting). They won’t start notifying anyone on the list until June with July 15th as their drop dead date. They said if you have another school to go ahead and commit to that one and be comfortable that if you get off the list you might not get your deposit back from the other school. Fortunately her other school said they decide refunds on a case by case basis after 5/1, but they didn’t really know of anyone who didn’t get theirs back.
That is kind of crappy of Emerson. I guess they have plenty of people.
@NewEngMTMom CONGRATULATIONS!
Has anyone ever enrolled at Marymount Manhattan in Theatre program and auditioned in the spring for musical theatre? A Plan B we are looking at And no she didn’t audition there
@NewEngMTMom I love all the acceptance stories, but I must admit stories like this are the sweetest. Congrats!
@fancytheatrekid, Marymount’s BA Acting program is auditioned, so she can’t do that if she didn’t audition.
(They do have a non-performance BA in theater history or something, I think, but you can’t combine that with the musical theatre minor. You have to audition and be accepted to both the BA in Acting and the MT minor in order to do MT.)
@actorparent1 Oh is MT only possible as a minor there?
At Marymount, the BA in acting combined with the MT minor gives you the equivalent of an MT major in terms of training and total number of credits. The MT minor consists of all the singing and dance classes, and the Acting BA is the acting training. The reason they do it that way is because Marymount is big on letting students put the different pieces of their education together to create an individual program. So for example, someone could do the BA Acting and double major in something completely different. Or, you can combine the BA Acting with the MT minor and have the equivalent of an MT major. It just makes it more flexible for students.
@fancytheatrekid - From what I understand, Marymount Manhattan is an audition only program. The Major is called Theater Performance with MT Concentration. The benefit is that you can plan your own classes, and you don’t have conservatory fees of most BFA programs, because the Dance Classes aren’t part of the major (but you can have more of them and take them as electives). After joining the program, you can audition also for BFA- Acting, but apparently, it is very difficult to do both. I have a contractor who teaches Acting for me at the school I work with who graduated from MMC 2 years ago. He talks up the MMC as being the best theater schools in New York, as he learned and grew so much at this college! He said the dancing is so much better than other colleges in New York. He always mentions (as does their Admissions Coordinator) Melissa Benoist (Supergirl) who was part of his class. She was their Millie!
So, anyway, you have to audition for their performance majors or interview for their tech majors. If one is auditioning in the Spring, it will most likely be for the next year. I saw that post you are referring to somewhere, but I am not sure where that information came from. You should call their Admissions department and ask them about that. It would be a good thing for us all to know if they suddenly take on a larger class size in the Spring! From what they told us at the audition, they accept more students than they expect will receive their offer, so they can have a class of 35 - 40. Their classrooms are rather small, so I can’t see that they would be able to have an unlimited class size. Please let us know if you find out any information about that Spring audition.
@NewEngMTMom … Congrats!
Congratulations!
@fancytheatrekid MMC also is a one and done audition. Students cannot re-audition. They academically accept quickly, so you can always go as a BA student, but I’m not sure that you can participate in any of the Theater track classes without an audition admission.
Right-I’ll have to call MMC. My D did not audition.
