With the SUNY tuition being so much less, I will be able to send S17 on the London Theater winter term in his junior year. I was able to afford to have him take a gen ed over winter break and he’ll take another this summer, thereby reducing his work load during the year. S17 is really happy at Fredonia, he has barely left the campus this entire year. He has been retained (with a classmate) to do lighting at several senior recitals so he is getting even more practice in his chosen field.
I am sure that wherever your D winds up, she will shine and soar, but I don’t really agree that Wagner’s program is better than Fredonia’s.
@techmom99 We didn’t go backstage but she did go to the cast party afterward and met tons of people who all wanted her to attend. She felt wanted. She had the chance to talk with an older high school alum who gave her more insight. It definitely doesn’t fit her original vision for herself but she was happy to see such a good production if she ends up at Fredonia.
Congratulations! @DramaQueen219 Both very good schools, too! I love that these were from video submissions.II think we all wonder if anyone ever seriously considers those – and now we know!
I’ve been trying to find a Facebook group for LIU Post parents of MT kids or at least Theatre Arts kids. Is there really nothing? I can’t seem to find much activity on here about LIU Post either…
I don’t even think S17 gets to go to the cast parties! As far as I know, S17 is the first kid from our HS to attend for this program. There are several other in the music ed program but not performing arts.
In my son’s major, the upperclasspeople are very helpful. One recommended S17 and a friend to do lighting for senior recitals and they got two jobs (so far). He was assigned a big and this young man has been very helpful to him. S17 is looking forward to being one himself.
As I said to @fancytheatrekid, it is clear that your D is talented and will shine wherever she lands.
Any other waitlist people out there? I know there have been waitlist threads in the past, but not sure if there are enough of us to start one again. My son made a near-final decision that we are absolutely thrilled about, but he’s staying on four waitlists because there is a chance he would consider an acceptance from those schools. It doesn’t seem likely, and I would love for this to be done!
@yaycollege! we are in the exact same boat. Almost 100% with the decision, but it might swing if a WL opening comes up. Hard to wait! And May 1 is right around the corner! Deposits due. Biting nails.
@fancytheatrekid My daughter is not at Wagner, but we did like the program enough to pay a lot of attention. Frankly, it’s where I’d like to have gone myself. But @LBSMOM does have a daughter there who is loving it!
I’d also say that I don’t know that it is better than SUNY Fredonia or not. Just that whether it’s BA or BFA isn’t necessarily relevant in deciding the program’s quality.
D is also going to be a May 1 girl. She is really pulling for one of her WL schools! She has let go of some of her WL schools and one offer so that list can move!
We are still waiting for the financial package from our last school before we can move forward with a decision This is the school my D really wants to go to, but we have to make sure we can make it work financially… we feel so paralyzed…and we are running out of time. I am also a “planner” so this not knowing and not being able to take the next steps is killing me. Hard for my D too because she really just wants to be able to make a decision and move forward. I know the financial office is probably swamped right now (I’ve emailed twice and can’t get through to a person when I call), but we just need the info. sigh This whole process is a lesson in patience, isn’t it?!
@JavaJo I am amazed a school hasn’t sent you a financial aid scenario yet?! Wth it’s a little eleventh hour ! I legit would be the squeaky wheel calling EVERYDAY. I mean they’re busy but you know what … we’re ALL busy . These colleges better ramp up their staffing this time of year just sayin.
At this stage in the game housing becomes an issue with signing up late etc especially at schools that have housing shortages to begin with. I said it before this happened to someone at my daughter’s school last year. She got stuck in a triple and another girl got put in a temp housing situation until they could fit her somewhere.
@belleforbroadway - we’re waiting for BW WL news too! @artskids, I love the “May 1 girl” description! I’d like my son to be an “April 23 guy,” which could still happen - one last piece of financial info will be helpful and communication from the school as we wait for that info has been great. @JavaJo, fingers crossed for speedy and positive financial news!!
@fancytheatrekid most housing started getting applied for in February. At least that’s when it opens up at my D school. So I’m just saying you’re dealing with kids who are incoming freshman who are not MT that have known they were going to the school since winter and signed up for housing first thing in Feb or when ever your school opened their housing application. I mean maybe the schools you are dealing with don’t have any issues . My daughter’s school just does. So she still got a dorm but she got the crappiest freshman one. She applied in April last year like around the 8th. Now obviously if the school requires freshman live on campus which almost all of them do , then they will fit your kid somewhere. I just wouldn’t expect a great accommodation.
