Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@FLtheaterDad I believe acceptances but not positive. My daughter saw it posted on a closed forum so I can’t check.

@speezagmom - my D is a senior st Molloy/CAP21. @waitingforlife is right - email Rebecca; she’s wonderful. Fingers crossed for your S!

Has anyone heard from CCM acting/MT from Chicago unifieds or the last on campus date? We were told we would hear probably by friday and I’m just curious if anything has been sent out yet.

@mtmaybe my daughter received a no from CCM MT last Friday after Chicago Unifieds.

@mtmaybe my D auditioned for CCM Tuesday of Chicago unifieds and hasn’t heard anything yet. Our only response so far from Chicago was Temple (a no).

When did she audition? So sorry for the bad news :frowning: the season of results is young though!

Has anyone who attended New York unifieds heard from Temple?

@mandidnam S called Montclair because his portal said the same. They said it’s all good and they don’t update the audition status until a decision has been made! Hope that helps!

@mtmaybe she auditioned on Monday at Chicago Unifieds. The email went to her spam folder on Friday.

@mtmaybe I can’t find it now, but I swear I read somewhere on the CCM site a few days ago that they post updates to their admissions portal every Friday at 5pm EST.

@newgirl17 I have not read the book you mentioned, but I definitely will! My D graduated with her BFA Acting in May and is living in NYC following her dream. Her journey has been quite a learning experience. If anyone has any questions about what she has learned so far since she graduated, please ask away and I will be happy to try and answer! BAL to your D!

@jbtcat While my Son is a Jr in HS, and we are just starting on this MT journey, I would definitely be interested in hearing a bit about your Daughter’s experiences. Maybe top three tips of things to do & things NOT to do? I realize it’s subjective, but I’d be happy to learn and pass on any information she would be willing to share. Thank you!

To add to what @newgirl17 said using a specific person…Rory O’Malley (formerly of Hamilton and Book of Mormon) graduated from CMU and got zero representation out of the senior showcase (mmmhmmm THE Carnegie Mellon). I don’t remember who offered him something in CA but he moved out there for a show and did at least one other show (Happy Days the Musical) and auditioned. He booked Book of Mormon because a casting director remembered him as always giving a good audition but not being able to cast him. She called him in for Book of Mormon when she was casting it. I think it’s hard work and consistency no matter the school and staying ready for when the opportunity comes.

Opinions please - my daughter has applied to a non audition program and she is still waiting to hear. In the meantime we have filled out the FAFSA - CSS - additional information sent required by the CSS - now the school is requiring the financials from the company that my husband has part ownership in. We are hesitant to send in all this info since there are other owners and she has not even been accepted into the school. We also know that need based aid is a huge long shot. Do I call the FA office at the school and ask if they absolutely have to have it before an admission decision is made?

@emdcollege it is not a requirement to file FAFSA although many will tell you must. If you do do not believe you will qualify for aid I wouldn’t do it. If you’re child has good grades you might get merit money.

@lithpool I will have to ask her what she thinks about those 3 top things. Good question! I do know that she would say going to college made a huge difference. She says all the time that she is a completely different actor than she was when she entered college and that she really would not have been prepared at all to enter the world of auditions without the training she received in college. She also continues to take classes even though she has graduated. Not only are the possible connections that you might make while taking these classes invaluable, they remind her of why she loves to act! She says that if all you do is go on auditions and do your 60 second monologue or script read and get rejected, it is easy to forget why you are doing what you are doing. Going to class and doing workshops puts the fun back into it!

@emdcollege My D got offers of merit and talent when she got her acceptance letters, but her full offer was not sent until later. It included other University grants that were income based. We thought there was no way she was going to get ANY financial aid because we are in a very high income bracket, but it turns out that there are a lot of factors that go into it, not just income. This was an additional $9,000 so fully worth it. It is up to you. If you can just pay the bills yourself then don’t send the requested material. If you need the FA, then send it. Next year she will be a senior and her FA was going to go down by $3,000 because my other child graduated from college so our EFC was higher. I called the FA office and they found another grant that they were able to give her. The one thing I have learned about FA is you can always argue. You may not win, but you might.

@emdcollege To answer your question, I say yes. Find out if they must have it before a decision can be made. The CSS is such a financial deep dive that I wouldn’t be surprised if they said yes, but I don’t think it hurts to ask and at least let them tell you why they need the company financials in addition to what you’ve already sent them.

2wuhanmom Got a rejection from Temple :frowning:

@emdcollege I would say it really depends on the school, and how ‘rich’ they are. Look at their endowment. How much do they have to offer all students, not just those in need? If a school is asking for CSS profile, they ‘tend to’ (I know it’s not an absolute) attempt to help out their students by making it more affordable.

Unless you feel like it is a complete invasion of your financial privacy, my opinion is you have nothing to lose. You certainly will NOT be considered for anything more than merit or scholarships if you do not submit.

I too, am in the midst of sending in all this, for schools that are such a long shot. My d got an email and text, reminding us of the impending deadline for financials (when acceptances are over a month away).
