Class of 2023 MT Artistic Acceptance Notifications: How/When/Where

No one cares if you’re off key in the MT song chain @“boola boola”!

gotcha @larken19 - you are IN and the MT positive vibes will be coming your way.

PLEASE keep positive, folks - it is so hard, many of us have been exactly where you are right now and lived the tell the tale. Programs will notify late, there will be spots, waitlists will clear - there’s still a long way to go. Just stick your course and wait it out. We’re singing hard for you and your kids!

I admit I’m emotional these days, but you all and your kindness to each other has got me teary-eyed here! This really is the nicest group of people I’ve ever ‘met’. It is making an excruciating process actually uplifting!

You are ALL so kind! This is so hard. I had no idea. My heart hurts for her… that’s all. These kids spend so much time and money applying, auditioning, etc. and then to hear no after no is so hard. Four schools left… just praying for a yes. Thanks to all of you!

Syracuse portal updated. S is a yes

@mauidad Congratulations!!! ??

Congrats @mauidad ! This has been a good day for your son!

@AGMomma Same thing happened to my D’s friend last year. 10 No’s and then the last school, a walk in to a great program, said Yes. She LOVES where she’s at and is a perfect example of things happening for a reason.

S got accepted into engineering! Needs to decide between Northeastern and Syracuse.

Count me in as an active participant in that kick line…Ready, 5-6-7-8…? One…?

@cjfmom ~ this is the musical theatre thread  But congratulations!!

Catching up on this thread a bit. Sending so much good energy to all waiting for a yes. Getting very invested in wanting things to work out for everyone - it’s such a stressful time.
My S got accepted by Roosevelt, but I think he’s going elsewhere, so that’s one more space for the waitlist folks. I think there is going to be a lot of shifting around, so keep the faith.

Well, how many people just checked My Slice even after being told that Syracuse doesn’t notify MT through My Slice?

Wait, @mauidad is MT. Now I’m scratching my head. Congratulations! My kid loved that audition. I see nothing different on My Slice.

Note - there’s a cross-reference list by date for those who self identify as "date anxiety "sufferers on p. 18 of this thread. Thanks CaMom13. We can update this list on April 1 as a primer for next year’s class of 2024

Kicking and singing and sending positive vibes to all those still waiting for that yes! Hang in there and remember you’ve got this! They will find their place! And there will definitely be movement on the lists as more information starts coming through.

I’m happy to say S got a yes from Roosevelt today. We are still waiting to hear from Temple, and some financials. But, he can only go to one school, so he will be able to release and hopefully open up some spots!

Congratulations to those yesses, and especially the 1sts!! I’m happy for you all!

FYI D got an email from Wagner today with her decision letter. She’s on a “short waitlist”. Not sure if they notified everyone via email today.

@mauidad Congrats on Syracuse! Was the notice in MySlice?

Also, I am sincerely rooting for everyone’s talented and hard working kids! I wish they all could have their dream schools! Hurts my heart to read kids not getting in… my own child included. I have to believe in what everyone has been saying…it will all work out and and they will land where they are supposed to be.

Congrats on all the yeses! So exciting!

My D has 2 yeses, but many, many nos from schools she loved (UM BW, CCM, and so many more). This process is so hard on everyone. And it’s so scary to think after all of this they will face even bigger odds in the real world… Ugh.

We are also getting a lot of “advice” from family members who think she should forgo the MT dream and just attend the excellent highly ranked state school she was admitted to where there is no MT or even Acting program. The 2 schools she has MT acceptances from are very small and not well known, especially for academics. And I confess a part of me wonders if I should be trying to steer her away from this field. She is the over represented petite blonde soprano and I don’t know if I can take the stress!

Anyway, I hardly ever post but I think this is the only place people understand! And I’m trying to get enough posts to PM…
:-*

@mamallovesllamas a couple people who had worked in the industry said variants this to us early on in the process. They said, if there is something else your son is considering; like, if he is making a choice between musical theatre and say, medicine, or history, or law, or anything… then do the other thing. But if there is no other choice, if this is ALL he wants, then do this. Because it’s really hard, and the only thing that makes it work is if it’s all you want to do.

I’m not sure if that advice is help for you or not, but it was helpful to me. Hearing it I knew where we stood and what the right path was. For now - they can always change course. Way leads onto way. I believe that you follow your dreams and see where they take you and that it’s often not where you thought you were going, but it’s the right place.

Any current Syracuse my parents or students here? I have some questions about sophomore adjudication

Hi all, I posted several days ago about my son’s MT path, but reading recent posts I feel compelled to update the story.
Last year was his senior year, 4 AP courses and 2 shows hindered his ability to apply to many MT schools.
A denial at Michigan broke his spirit and he thought that he didn’t measure up…that he would never be good enough.
A few months later we were at BU for academic orientation when he texted me and told me he couldn’t do it…he couldn’t give up on Musical Theatre.
We came home from Boston, regrouped, and decided to take a gap year.
He was able to concentrate on audition material; songs, monologues, choreography…all without the distractions of senior year.
The gap year was the best decision we could have made.
He now has some amazing MT options, including Michigan.
Taking a gap year might not be everyone’s path, but requiring these amazing kids to do everything expected of them as seniors and audition for 10+ universities is a little silly.
Stay open to possibilities.
