@NYDreammom - I see the post… but unless there has been a change - NYU has always been an all at once school (other than ED of course). In pst years it has even been online… them pressing the “send” button to release results
Everyone might want to read VoiceTeachers new subject posting called “May 1st Deadline”. (For those that don’t know VT is a professor at a prominent MT school). The May 1st deadline has been suspended and will not be enforced this year as the NACAC is being investigated. This may make an impact to this years auditioners and may explain why it seems more schools are asking for commitments prior to May 1st. Yikes.
@stagedoormama Do you have a link for this?
@toowonderful Talk of NYU threads that I’ve read is some scholarship recipients such as MLK do get notified earlier.
@azmtmom13 you can google what VT stated. Not sure if CC will allow this link but https://www.nacacnet.org/advocacy–ethics/NACAC-Code-of-Ethics/
If you read the statement and go and read their code of ethics, it states they will not be enforcing them and you can see which ones in the spoken about sections. (One being the May 1st deadline.) Obviously people can and should ask for extensions from schools, but without the NACAC enforcing, that may allow schools more leeway to request commitments sooner, etc.
Yes, only students offered the big scholarships such as MLK hear early from NYU. I was actually wondering if the poster on the NYU thread was a (substitute word we can’t use for something that sits under the bridge as the billy goats gruff walk on) because she only has five posts, four of which are in NYU and one was announcing a similar scholarship for Syracuse that is given to a student with great promise as a leader. It seems odd that you would join College Confidential just to brag about getting scholarships but I suppose at 18 that’s not totally unexpected.
@Classof23MTmom I’m looking for info on the Roosevelt WL too. Any parents of current students you can shed light? Thanks!
@stagedoormama - the code of ethics appears to be a large document - which page should we be looking at?
@stagedoormama which thread is VT’s post on?

@stagedoormama this is not true. Please read the rest of my post from that thread.
This is not correct. The May 1st deadline has not been eliminated/suspended. Here is further verbiage from NACAC about this issue that was posted back in Fall 2018 and was confirmed to me as being accurate and current:
"Based on our understanding, the DOJ’s review is focused on elements of the CEPP that:
(1) Prohibit colleges from offering Early Decision applicants exclusive incentives not available to
students applying under other admission plans;
(2) Limit colleges’ ability to recruit students beyond the May 1 National Candidates Reply Date,
including limits on the recruitment of students who already have committed to attending a
college. It is our understanding that the Department of Justice is not interested in eliminating the May 1 reply date, but is concerned about our ban on recruiting students who have already committed to another school; or
(3) Limit the recruitment of transfer students.
@theatremom10 - If you read the comments from the NACAC and the Code of Ethics document, it doesn’t state that it is getting rid of the May 1st deadline. But it does say that it will not ENFORCE the requirements of Section 2, which is where the May 1st deadline it, as well as other deadlines in it. It states “Delegates agreed to a moratorium of enforcement for Section II. A-Application Plans for First Time Undergraduates in the United States: Guiding Principles and Rationale; Section II. B-Admission Cycle Dates, Deadlines, and Procedures for First-Time Fall Entry Undergraduates: Guiding Principles and Rationale; and Section II. D Transfer Admission: Guiding Principles and Rationale for one year or until the investigation by the Department of Justice has been resolved.” I read that exactly as VoiceTeacher that if they are choosing not to enforce those parts of the code of ethics- then schools are able to be a little more “flexible” with their dates.
Hello… my daughter was accepted to Muhlenberg as well but is on the fence as she had some of the BFA schools in her head as where she wanted to go! Wonder if our daughters could connect?
Does anyone know what’s going on with Western Michigan MT acceptances? I’ve heard of 2 or 3 acceptances sporadically since Unifieds and I’ve heard of a few waitlist emails. Any word on when more acceptances will be coming out? Also I’ve heard calls for BFA acting have kinda started… will it be a call for MT or should we be praying for an email?
@MT2k19mama I’m pretty sure it’ll be an acceptance call, email for anything else. We got an MT WL email, but an acting acceptance call. They gave us an Apr 5 deadline for acting, but said we won’t know anything about the MT WL until Apr 15. Because of that, I would think you’ll be notified any day. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
We got a redirect to Theatre Creations from Ball State, but we have no idea what that is. And it mentioned reauditioning after a semester for the BFA. Does anyone have info on these things? @Divamamacita ?
@mommyMT thank you!!!
@MTMama23 BALL STATE: The Theatre Creation Option (TCO) is the new name for the Theatre Studies Option (TSO), which is the more general BA major. Double check the website, there should be a curriculum plan for the TCO that will shed some light on what classes are offered. TCO’s can reaudition for the MTO and AO BFA majors. If your son or daughter is interested in reauditioning, work with the department to take private voice lessons (you will need to pay for these), any open dance classes and, if possible, Music Theory. You want to mimic as closely as possible the classes that the BFA’s are taking – that way, if your son or daughter successfully reauditions, they can stay with their class and not have to add a year. This is just my understanding of how it works - you should really reach out to Andrea Sadler or Bill Jenkins to discuss in more detail. One observation that many students reaudition each year and few are taken – in my daughters year, I think 5 were added - but 2 of those decided for different reasons not to finish with the BFA. All were welcomed in sophomore year and are just part of the family for that year - there is really no stigma at all on having reauditioned. I would say 30 - 35 students reauditon each year. Again, just a mom’s understanding - best bet to check with the department!
Anyone hear anything from Syracuse today?
Anyone hear anything from UMiami?
