@AGMomma we are still waiting on WMU, as well. I know I have seen some WL emails but not sure about the number of recent acceptances. We heard from Ohio Northern a week after Chicago Unifieds. Might be worth reaching out. D found out today Ball State sent her information to the wrong email (typo) so we never heard from them.
Thanks everyone! She just submitted Ohio Northern so we werenât expecting that one really quickly.@CaMom13 thanks for NYU info. Sheâs really strong academically so thinking maybe thatâs a plus but who knows! Good luck to all of us still waiting. I know we are all anxious for our kids to be able to make their final decisions and move on to the fun part of all of this!
For those still waiting for that first acceptance, a few years ago d had 3 friends/acquaintances with no acceptances until âŠNYU! Not sure if it was because academics weighed so heavily or what. But what a one to get! Keep the faith! Hopefully all will hear some good news soon. And FYI- 2 of the 3 did not get placed in the MT studio but they went anyway and loved the studios in which they were placed. (I think studio placements donât come until a few leeks after the acceptances, unless you said you only would accept the MT studio)
Looking forward to NYU, that is the last one we are waiting on. I can and canât believe this process is almost over. There have been highs and lows and through it all loved all the time and bonding. Canât believe they will all be off to their âplacesâ in just a few months.
@vvnstar , that happened to a few people last year too! No acceptances at all, and thenâŠNYU! I think one reason is that NYU accepts a larger number of people than most programs, because they have so many different studios, which is wonderful because it means they can accept a lot of talented people! (No matter HOW talented you are, the odds are slim at getting into a program that accepts only 12!) So I think itâs wonderful that thereâs at least ONE top program that accepts a larger number of people!
D got calls from Western MI while in school today. I got a frantic text from her âWhat should I do? Should I call them back?â I texted her back âif u can, do, it probably means u got accepted!â This is her first experience with a school that calls to notify, lol. Anyway, luckily she was in theatre class so her teacher let her call. She has been accepted into their BFA acting. We already knew she was on their MT waitlist (per an email on 3/17). Hereâs the kicker. Sheâs STILL waiting to hear back from several schools (including 3 WL, one is THEIR MT program, remember!) and they want her to commit by Apr 5! WL wonât even contact us until the earliest, Apr 15! If she commits by Apr 5, she can audition for their fall shows, including musicals. What to do???
@AGMomma I would think your notification will be soon. I think they are coming in waves. The fact that she hasnât gotten a no is a good sign I would think! Good luck!
@mommyMT - thatâs great⊠But stressful! At least April 5th is a more reasonable date. You can always commit and change if a WL clears but no one wants to do that.
@AGMomma - I am quite sure my Dâs academics helped her. Sheâs talented but not as trained as many of her peers. Sheâs catching up! NYU does have a large MT program (65 freshman in NSB, their MT studio) so they can âlevelâ classes in dance and music theory which is very helpful for kids not coming from performing arts schools - she says about half her class went to PA high schools and the other half did not. Sheâs in a higher level of dance and the lowest level of music theory, lol.
I am holding my breath for NYU tomorrow, my daughter loved her audition and each student she met there, and has kind of been infatuated with NYU since she was 5 watching the âpurple busâ ride around the city, insisting she would ride it one day.
Anyway, on the admission stats page of NYUâs website it says that the avg. scholarship award (not financial aid) for an incoming freshman (in 2018) was $35K. That would sure ease the pain of the NYU pricetag. However, I have also heard through years of CC lore that NYU is notorious for giving zilch.
Guess Iâm just wondering what is up with that?
@El-Cee - NYU does give merit aid but only if there is demonstrated financial need. So if they think you can afford the school OR you arenât tops on their list you get nada. Either will disqualify you for aid. My D says a lot of her peers recieved scholarships and I think many of those are near-full scholarships but they go to students from low-income families. NYU is big on diversity and has a ton of Pell grant recipients.
How many total (from all studios including MT) are accepted into NYU? Someone said about 400 does that sound right?
I think all studios combined are around 300 students @mamboyz. No idea how many they accept but the price tag does make a lot of people go elsewhere.
@El-Cee - I think NYU is notifying NEXT Thursday - 3/28⊠there was an email yesterday that confirmed that⊠correct?
Yes, NYUâs notification will be next Thursday 3/28.
RE: NYU thanks for insight guys. And yeah - next week, not tomorrow⊠got things jumbled.
Does anyone know if Baldwin Wallace accepts students than they intend to admit? On the waitlist and wondering if they ever get to the waitlist, or if they accept more students than the class size?
@onepercentmom - thereâs a good thread you might want to read:
From what I can surmise, BW does sometimes go to the waitlist and youâll probably know by mid April.
By the way, if anyone is wondering why I donât have a life - I am bored and recovering from an appendectomy! So I have nothing better to do today but research questions on CC, lol!
Someone on the NYU RD thread was accepted today with full tuition scholarship (not clear what NYU school). Happy for them!
