Class of 2023 MT Artistic Acceptance Notifications: How/When/Where

My son got a call from Ithaca MT yesterday. He’s off the waitlist. Based on his acceptances, he committed to a bfa acting program. His first love is MT and he will likely take this spot. He’s feeling so conflicted, he’s made great connections at his committed school. Any advice about gracefully withdrawing from a school that has been so kind, would be greatly appreciated. Ithaca was top on his list but he never expected to come off the waitlist. Honestly, I never expected him to pass the prescreen based on the dance video… lol

I think you say what you mentioned above that MT is really his first love. Makes sense- congrats thats a great program!

@MEMTmom - that’s SO hard but congratulations to him! He has to think about next year and not next week - if MT is his first love, then Ithaca wins out. I don’t think there’s any more graceful way to withdraw but politely and promptly letting the BFA Acting school know he won’t be attending next year is the key to keeping things friendly.

D got email accepted to Univ of Utah BFA MT on 5/2 but already committed elsewhere for BFA Acting  She wasn’t even on the waitlist and had received a decline letter earlier, so we were a bit surprised - LOL!

^^That is the first time I have ever heard of an acceptance letter AFTER a decline letter!

In any case, congrats!

@MTmama42 and @soozievt Same here LOL! My D was not offered a spot in Utah’s MT program, nor on the wait list. But she got an acceptance letter to the MT program last week “because some additional spots opened up.” I guessing they really misjudged their numbers, have gone through their wait lists, and are now trying to fill up their class.

D is happily committed elsewhere. We got a good chuckle ?

@2019wolves …Wow, well, that is most unusual! Chalk it up to a nice positive affirmation to your daughter too!

@2019wolves same letter wording here and I think you are right. My D has 2 friends that were accepted, visited, and then chose other programs.

It may not work, but if that is the case with Utah, if there is someone who didn’t get in a program they like and maybe didn’t apply to Utah initially, I wonder if you could inquire about sending a video audition in for late consideration if they are truly in need for filling their class? May not work. But may be worth a try for someone who still isn’t crazy about their current options.

I just wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of the folks here on CC. I’ve been a reader for a long time while my late blooming S was making decisions about his life. He enrolled at FSU as a Music Therapy major and about two months in, realized he missed performing… so we climbed back on the wagon and started audition round number two - this time for MT. Reading your posts, seeing this community celebrate EVERY victory meant so much to helping me stay CALM. The Boy only applied to 6 schools (and he went big-name… CMU, Roosevelt, Webster, FSU, Elon, and Ithaca), and when panic started to set in… you all helped without even knowing it.
Ultimately, he ended up with two BFA acceptances (LIU-Post and Rider - his two walk in auditions at NYC Unifieds) and a redirect to Vocal Performance from FSU. Not bad and this fall he will be heading off to Rider to pursue his BFA in MT. For the first time in over a year I see real joy and excitement in his face… it’s a beautiful thing.
So thank you all for being a part of his journey, even if you didn’t know it. Y’all rock.

thanks for sharing @SingerJocksMom so happy your son followed his heart and found his smile!

@SingerJocksMom Congratulations for following his passion and finding his fit!
