I don’t know if they still do this, but my daughter was in the dorm last year as a freshman. What they do is try to put you into other students that are in your major and same field of studies. It’s something like a life community that you get put into. For ex., most engineering students will be in the engineering dorm, capstone scholars will be at the capstone and columbia dorms. My daughter has a science major, so she was put in the Women’s for science community and they are located at the Women’s quad (Wade Hampton dorms). Honors college students were generally in the Honors dorm. You can switch dorms, but you’ll have to either know someone from that life community or in the case of the Green quad dorms, you’ll end up writing an essay on an environmental friendly subject.
The link takes you to USC’s living and learning communities. If you click on each community, it’ll tell you which dorms that community is located at and where those students live.
@Momtofourkids word on the street (Patricia the Dean apparently told our guidance counselor) is that it’s today. But think latest is officially the 20th, you are correct! Past years have always been a few days early.
For those inquiring about the snail mail, they are releasing the decisions through the USC portal this afternoon (per the email we received from USC earlier this week). Our experience has been that the mailed hard copy of the decision is received 1-2 weeks after the decision is posted on the portal. But I guess you never know since they are apparently doing things differently this year…Good luck to everyone!
@Illinoismom23 I heard they try to do it after the kids are out of school EST (so they don’t necessarily hear secondhand) and also after the admissions office would have to deal with calls. But who knows this year? I bet after 5 EST
Did you mean to post this in the University of South Carolina thread? I saw you posted something similar for Georgetown. Admittedly, I have not read all the posts, but I was not expecting any new U of SC EA decision letters to be mailed until after today.
My daughter received her acceptance email (in-state) at 5 pm on November 15th (a Friday). So I am guessing y’all will hear around 5 pm. Good luck everyone!
I think it will definitely be after 5 and I also doubt there will be anything in the mail right now. It will be at the least a few days after. Good Luck to everyone and please post your results. I hope not many get denied
I just question if it will be that late since they keep saying afternoon. If it’s 5pm, why not sat this evening. I also assume they may roll out throughout the afternoon so the system doesn’t crash
Where exactly will they post the admissions decision? On the page titled: South Carolina Admissions Portal - with the application checklist? Or should we be looking somewhere else?
@VirginiaBelle I wasn’t talking about UGA being inflated. I just said they don’t assign weight for Honors. I was talking about UofSC having inflated GPA vs their average in state ACT/SAT scores.
Who thinks decisions will be rolling today versus one big release? Now that 3pm has passed, I think it could be any time now, but 5pm most likely based on their November decision release.
Judging by the 11/15 release, I’m thinking it’ll be one mass release after 5pm. Of course I’ve been refreshing the portal regularly since 7am like an idiot, so I’m clearly not following my own advice. I’m a nervous wreck for these kids. I’ve been trying to prep my daughter that this first year on common app might mean all but the highest rated EA kids will get a deferral today, so to expect a deferral, but i know she’ll be a mess if she doesn’t see an acceptance today. The first several months of senior year is a stressful time for these kids! :-/
@kjj2020 well as you say “refreshing like an idiot” add me to that statement as well! I am thinking the same as my son just got a referral from Fordham about 30 minutes ago and from the comments on there it seems (from this small sample) about 1/3 got deferred, 1/3 got denied and 1/3 got accepted. Very stressful.
My daughter received an email telling her there was an update to her application portal. We logged onto that and saw she was accepted. Again, it was right around 5 pm on Friday 11/15.
@Momtofourkids us too on deferral from Fordham. Expecting the same here. My son just doesn’t have those top stats it seems like you need for EA, best we can hope for is acceptance in a later round I think.
