Does anyone know from the past if they send out an email when decisions are posted/if they send out decisions over the course of a few days?
@taranayak - Hope you get a happy birthday present!
@saltypretzel - I think you’ll get in! You have good stats, not great for out-of-state, but still good. UMich prizes diversity and from the looks of your “resume”, you seem to have both a Hispanic and Jewish background, that may make you stand out.
I’ve heard that one of the key reasons UM has such high deferral rates for EA (as opposed to rejection) is simply because they can’t process so many applications (which is understandable when you look at the numbers).
Does anyone know if this is true or not? And if true, how should I/we have gone about to get our application closer to the top?
They do get roughly 40,000 EA applicants, but there are also a lot of people in the admissions department. You can go to https://admissions.umich.edu/contact-us and click high school student to find your rep, who is one of 3 people to review your application. It depends on which state you live in, but I live in MD where there is a representative dedicated to the state and no other territory so it does not seem unreasonable that they would get through all the applications for my state. They have a lot of money and employees at their disposal and not reading apps does not seem like it is worth risking a scandal over. I cannot say for sure, but I trust the university.
Interesting link. Thanks for sharing @dunkeyminion . A follow up question. We are In State and I am seeing different counselors from different counties. We live in one County but attend High school in another county. In that case, do they assign counselor based on where you live or where you attend school? Also does where you live (we are in a sort of backward area but attend a half-decent Public school in a different city/county) make any impact on admission decisions? Thanks.
I posted this comment back on page 4 about deferrals.
My D was accepted yesterday into SMTD as a Dance major. Good luck everyone!!
I didn’t realize SMTD released decisions before the other colleges?
Also, congrats to you daughter!!!
@KSB2019 yeah we didn’t expect to hear so soon! but thrilled we did lol!
Does lower stats but diversity help you get in?
Congratulations to your D!! My D20 has applied to SMTD Musical Theater (dual degree w LSA), but hasn’t heard anything yet about an audition. Just curious…when did your D do her in-person audition?
I am so happy for you, and hope it will also be good news for the rest of us. Can you give more details on how you found out? We were all looking for an announcement on Facebook or Twitter before getting our own announcement, and also wondering what time they released the decision for you? Have you heard from others that got in?
Soooo curious, help us out with filling in details on how you knew to look, what time it happened, etc.
@momzilla2D my D auditioned on 11/22! Her good friend is applying for MT too and just received an audition date a few days ago. Good luck to your D!!
@KSB2019 thank you so much! wishing you all the best of luck too! My D got an email that there was an update to her enrollment connect portal around 3:30 yesterday, and it had her admissions letter there. She also got a separate email yesterday first from SMTD congratulating her around 11 am.
I haven’t heard of anyone else getting in yet, not even for Dance. Dance says they let some people know by EA deadline and then others may have to wait until all auditions are over in March to find out.
Does anyone know why the admission twitter just posted that decisions will be out on or before the 24th? That is common knowledge already, so are they trying to tel us they will be later than normal???
@gmfalv where in enrollment connect did her decision appear (which tab)?
That’s how I interpreted it, @bookworm180 My sense was that someone in Admissions wanted to tamp down speculation.
