Is there a comparison between UIUC GIES BBA program VS UMICH LSA (Econ)program and which one offers better opportunities when it comes to career options?
@Akar7878. It all depends on your āendā goals. Know many kids that were in Ross and changed due to not what they expected. I know many that did LSA as you and are in management positions without a bba degree.
If the question is do you need to go to any business school to work in business then the answer is no.
Email /call a Michigan advisor. Tell them your goals. Let them help you get there. There are so many things that are business opportunities on Michigan campus itās unreal. Look at Optimize and Badger leadership as 2 examples. Tons of other opportunities. Check out clubs and groups. Gies is great also
Just compare
Congratulations to the students who got accepted!
My D applied and got accepted into LSA. She has changed direction since she submitted her application (early action) and now wants to go to engineering. Is it possible to change major now (before admission) or does she have to wait after the first year and apply for cross-campus transfer? Any insight is very much appreciated.
Your D would be changing schools, not majors. Call admissions and ask.
In LSA, you donāt declare a major until the end of your sophomore year. Your D can always meet with her LSA advisor and plot a course for a cross campus transfer to CoE.
So the way it works is that you can not change now. Unless the virus will change thatā¦
The first year LSA kids and Engineering are all taking the same classes like Calc, Chem, Physics, English etc anyway. You have till Feb 1st the due date you apply. It is very specific what you need. Look up Cross Campus Transfer for engineering. Make sure you child gets those requirements completed by end of first or second year. So Michigan just has to see that you are āgoingā to complete these requirements by the start of your second year. Your child wonāt be officially in Engineering till the next fall of your second year. Got It?
Besides those requirements you need to writeā¦wait for itā¦another essay! One thing with Michigan is that they are very lax about transferring which is great.
Note of caution: Even though these are Freshman classes do not expect it to be easy. There are weed out classes tucked in there depending on your kids strengthās. So many kids drop out at around Midterm and decide not to be doctors, Engineers etc etc. Its a tough school but they accepted your child for the challenge. My kids a junior in Industrial Engineering. Loves his experience at Michigan!
If more questions PM me.
@Knowsstuff Hi. Can you tell me if the majority of freshmen students choose traditional housing or if LCās are popular/beneficial. My son is CofE and is leaning towards traditional. What did your son choose? Thanks!
My son did West Quad First year on Central campus. It is like a hotel. Itās very nice and perfectly located to everything.
His second and third year he was in Northwoods 3 on North Campus. He liked it but they need to be replaced and they are going to be shut down for a new North Campus high rise for Students.
For his Senior year he is looking to go back to Central campus.
What type of engineering?
Congrats⦠Itās awesome school.
Sorry didnāt answer fully. Lots of his female friends did SWE with housing for that. Great program. People really like the theme housing. Itās competitive since itās on Central campus. They really are all good options.
@Knowsstuff Thanks! Yes, great school. My son is thinking ME or CS.
@tigerlady15
As an engineer your sonās engineering classes will be on north campus. Some engineering students choose to live on north campus as freshmen, especially if the want to join some of the engineering clubs or especially the big āprojectsā like the solar car, etc. so that they are close to āworkā areas. Some also choose north campus just to get familiar with the area. If you request north campus, you will definitely get it and will probably get the most popular dorm on north campus which is Bursley. Bursley is famous for having great camaraderie.
My son got admitted to Engineering school from EA. We are from Wisconsin. Does it have a facebook group or something like that for admitted students, engineering students? Thanks.
@innoventure
There is a Facebook group for admitted students. Search University of Michigan class of 2024 students. Thereās also group for parents.
For your stats:

Also accepted LSA honors.
I was on another uMich thread about MLCs and I decided to revisit this thread to take a stroll down memory lane⦠Oh, the stress the days before and the day of decisions being released. By the way, @sushiritto, did you ever compile all the data from everyoneās posts to get an average of the 2024 EA class? Iād love to see it if you did. Thanks
Iāve yet to finish it. Itās just been too busy. Also, Iām only compiling the EA results from December for now. I may try to compile the February wave, but if I remember correctly, the stats become harder to come by. Hopefully, Iāll have EA done soon.
Iāll add my daughter EA admission
