Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

Just to remind everyone asking for chances, please setup a new thread for yourself. This isn’t a “chance me” thread.

Also, the average uwGPA is 3.9 and the 25/75 SAT and ACT medians are 32-35 and 1,380-1,540.

uwGPA and course rigor are the two most important factors to UMich admissions per the CDS.

@ling2020 I don’t believe there is any information as to the demographics of EA acceptances. UM only releases their final acceptance numbers and demographics, so there is no way to know how many deferred students are instate or out of state. It looks like about 7,500 students will get acceptances this week and we can guess that’s out of over 40,000 applications. Any way you slice it, most students will be deferred.

@jayrow is on it. ?

FYI. In-state acceptance rate is 41%. OOS acceptance rate is 19%.

Based on deferral info for the Class of 2023, most students posting here (80-90%) on CC are from OOS.

@ling2020 and @sushiritto - And those acceptance rates are as of May 1, not EA, so if only about 1/2 the class gets accepted EA, those rates will be lower. And I would also assume applications have increased this year which most likely means all acceptance rates will go down.

And @sushiritto is right - most CC posts come from OOS students, so the data on here gets a little skewed as well.

The acceptance rates above are for the entire Class of 2023. But we do have an idea what the overall acceptance rate is for EA.

For the Class of 2022, roughly 25,000 of the 65,000 apps were submitted post-11/1 RD. Not EA. UMich received almost 40,000 EA apps and accepted roughly 8,000, so the acceptance rate for EA was around 20% overall. Thus the EA acceptance rate of about 20% is lower than the overall class acceptance rate of 23%.

Both the Class of 2022 and 2023 had about 65,000 apps, what would lead you to believe apps have increased this year? I’d speculate that you’re right and I think the increase may be at least partly due to UMich moving from #27 to #25 in the USNWR rankings.

There is a 15 second ish window in between putting in your password and the “YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL” message. May be able to peep into your application ??‍♂️

Correction: 3 second ish window

@JF9 I was able to get in the original portal during the 3 second window, but it still says application materials received…meaning no official update. Im hoping for today, but my bet is on Thursday.

Why would it be Thursday and not Wednesday like it’s been for the past 3-4 years? My guess is definitely Wednesday the 18th.

If you get deferred, how long does it typically take to get a decision? Do you have to wait until the RD’s go out?

If your EA app is deferred, then your app would now be considered RD. RD decisions are typically released in waves on or about 2/1, 3/1 and 4/1.

I’m assuming it’s impossible that decisions come out today?

Anything is possible. Just not likely ?

@cadavisj10 I sent an email to my admissions counselor last night, asking about EA deferrals and basically reiterating that I love Umich and would commit immediately if accepted. Did you get a response to yours?

@ling2020 I got a response to mine within 36 hours, but I emailed my admissions counselor in mid-November, however, I am sure your admissions counselor will at least see it, if not respond. It could be a little late to make a change in your decision, but I don’t work there so I could be completely wrong. I think any email is better than none, and it really shows that you are genuinely interested in the school. I have even heard of people trying to appeal a rejection…I don’t know how valuable that is though. I think at this point we just have to wait and see. Because the admissions people need to communicate with each other, I would assume in person and email. I would assume they check their email frequently throughout the day. Let us know if you get a response! Best of luck!!

@cadavisj10 I will, thanks so much!

@cadavisj10 I did not send an email after submitting mine. I really want to go to Michigan and it’s my number one choice and I think I made it clear in my essays. Do you think this will affect my chances.

Also if I get deferred, I want to email them but not sure what to say. What did your email look like?

Portal back to being available, that message about “Early action items are being processed…” etc. is gone now. Means anything?

Edit : Spoke too soon. The “Early action items are being processed…” message is now back.

@hmilo394 No, as long as you made it somewhat clear you are probably fine. But, it will all work out in the end. If it is not meant to be, it just isn’t. If you get deferred I would include your fall-semester senior year grades, updates in accomplishments and achievements, any other new extra curriculars/leadership positions, and any additional job experience. You could also genuinely reiterate that you really want to attend, and I am sure that they will take it into account.

@RaLaSrSa My portal went back t normal for like 10 minutes too, but now it is back to the blank screen message. Hopefully it will come out today, but I’m betting on tomorrow, or Thursday.
