Won’t UMich make a social media announcement before announcing the decisions?
@gauti07 That is typically the case. Last Friday they posted on social media that early action admission decisions would be coming out by Dec. 24 (probably pointing to sometime this week). They will also email us when the status update is posted.
How much before decisions do they usually post about it on social media?
Doing a last minute LOI Letter of intent is too late. Decisions most likely have been made and they are getting the computers ready for the results. This is why your seeing things happen.
A Letter of a intent should of been done weeks /months ago.
But get ready to do a Letter after your deferral. Short and to the point to your AO for your school. Explain even though your disappointed that Michigan remains your number one choice.
If deferred you need to keep your grades etc up. They will ask for Midterm grades and any updates that matter like creating a cure for cancer ?.
Try to relax a bit. There is nothing you can do to make the results come out faster…
It just seems so random who Michigan admits. High stats- too high bad for yield. Lower stats- deferred. The stats they say are what they want- either way. Ive wanted to go to Michigan for as long as I can remember but i’m trying to be realistic. They are building a class and I am who I am. i need to be fatalistic- I applied to other fantastic schools I’m still waiting to hear from. I just feel I’ll land where i belong. Good luck all and go blue!
@gauti07 Typically, yes. Last year, there was a 2:16 PM EST tweet and decisions were released at 3:00 PM EST.
So, a couple years ago, I attended a Stanford info session at my kid’s public HS, here in Silicon Valley/NorCal. No, Michigan isn’t Stanford, but what the Stanford representative said was that Stanford rejects 70% of the perfect 4.0/1,600/36 students that apply. While they could probably fill their freshman classes of about 2,000 HS students, all with perfect stats, that’s not how they build a class.
As I’ve said before, some high stat students are accepted, some are deferred. Michigan is building a well-rounded class with students from across the country as well as the State of Michigan.
The other thing to think about is that Michigan probably doesn’t want to fill a class of almost 7,000 students with only pre-meds, engineers and other STEM majors, all popular today. In your applications and essays, you mentioned EC’s and other interests. I bet UMich is looking for students with interests in Philosophy, English, History, Sociology, Political Science and all the other non-STEM majors.
Just my $0.02.
What does deferral mean if you are applying to Ross? Because don’t you have to get in before getting into ross
Alright.
Illinois has on their website the average ACT range based by major. A certain score may get you into Liberal Arts but a rejection in Engineering.
When did the portal go away last year? I know they got theirs on the Wednesday, so wondering if it means anything… OOS double legacy and UofM is my first choice… crossing my fingers bc applying to Ross and idk what a deferral would do to that application.
You must be accepted into a “home school” first, whether it’s LSA, CoE, Kinesiology, etc. Then your app is sent over to Ross for a “preferred admission” decision. If your “home school” decision is deferred, then you must wait for an RD decision on your app first, before Ross sees your app.
Different portal this year. This is the 1st year using Enrollment Connect. In prior years, UMich used Wolverine Access.
This is our concern. As much as many of us are talking about “getting in to Michigan” it soley depends on which college you applied too. LSA accepts a ton more applicants than Engineering by decision day. We do not have the stats to properly project or reason an answer for any of this. As engineering is a few thousand less than LSA (kinesiology even worse, and most UM student athletes take these spots), plus they would like to build a diverse class of applicants, or start to in the EA process.
I would love to havethe EA acceptance/deferred rates for each college. Bc right now many will be differed. They have to build the class with over 50% in-state kids per charter. Plus while overall UM admission is checking that, each college is trying to do the same. It’s like a vicious circle getting the info.
And if I understand the math and logistics behind ED from Ivies, the longer we wait for a decision, the better the chances on our own decision being positive.
I would prefer to be put out of the what if misery, but only if the answer is favorable. Lol.
I applied EA Dual Degree to LSA and SMTD. Good luck everyone!
I know SMTD won’t come tomorrow because that’s not EA technically.
There were a couple or few angry posters, parents I think, IIRC, that were deferred, waited thru a couple RD waves (2/1, 3/1) with no decision and then waitlisted into April. And ultimately rejected. Just a couple, but they were angry. Rightfully so, IMO.
That’s not cool at all. Hopefully, Enrollment Connect is the plan to “fix” that.
My D also applied EA dual degree LSA + SMTD! What majors are you going for? My D is math and musical theater. She got her applications in at the last possible days, and has not heard anything about scheduling an audition yet. Do you have an audition scheduled?
Will it be today?
