Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

Being a first-gen will definitely bring some positive impact on the overall review.

Congrats @ROSSX2 My kid has been home since Tuesday evening. So no buzz on campus here. ?

I got accepted but What is the comprehensive studies program?
I’m a 1st gen from a rural area.

Decision: Accepted to Summer 2020 LSA

*please note: I’m a first generation and from a rural town - accepted to summer because they’re giving me an opportunity to get a head start to adjusting to the Michigan standards (thank you for taking a chance on me if you’re reading this, UMich affiliates!!!)

4.0/4.0 my school naturally doesn’t weight our GPAs

NHS President (2 years), Student Council Executive Officer (2 years), GSA Founder (2 years), EMS President (4 years), Science Olympiad (2 years), FIRST Robotics (1 year), Tutoring (3 years)

1 out of 102 in my class

I’ve racked up ~500+ community service hours

My essays were really strong; Common App discussed experience taking a collegiate Marine Science course in Alabama for a month during the summer, first Umich was on being a curious learner, second Umich was on my passion for the university (more personal), third Umich was on my EMS involvement and how it has shaped my goals for my future.

I’m thankful that it’s a truly holistic review; clearly I’m not the best tester, but I feel my essays, ECs, and courseload made up for that. I hope this doesn’t bother anyone (I’m scared I’m going to be harassed for getting a disappointing SAT score - if you didn’t get accepted/deferred with a higher SAT, just know that there’s still hope - send in mid-reports, more teacher recs if that’s allowed, etc - if you don’t get in you’ll prosper wherever life takes you.

I’m putting this out there because if you’re like me with lower scores, this is what I would have wanted to hear instead of the daunting 1500+ scores being thrown out on this forum - or even the 1300s (which isn’t a problem - congratulations to everyone that’s able to do that). Know that this decision doesn’t define you- let alone a SCORE! Anything is possible.

Good luck, everyone! I hope you get/have gotten the results you were looking for!

i got deffered this morning. I really want to get in. what is the RD acceptance rate for defferals?

ACCEPTED! I’m an OOS applicant. Stats fit into average for UMichigan.

I was super afraid applying OOS EA, but I got in!!!

@moneymoves16 Fellow OOS LSA PoliSci student here! Excited to study with you soon!!!

@Harryyardley that’s most definitely the case. A major use of deferral is to collect more information, which obviously needs to be done in your case. If they were going to reject you, they would have. Best of luck in RD!

Accepted, LSA
In-state
3.93 unweighted, 31 act
pretty good essays and extracurriculars in my opinion
doesn’t hurt that I’m black either

Deferred, CoE
OOS
3.9 UW
34 ACT
Strong ECs and course rigor
No X

Probably depends on the school. I know for Engineering, admission rate for deferreds is 19%. Not a death sentence

This may have already been answered, but if you were deferred is it possible to take another SAT or ACT test before the continued interest deadline, and send in that score to be considered for RA instead of the one originally sent?

I just checked the ACT and SAT test dates. Nevermind.

What is the significance of the ā€œXā€

@ROSSX2. Awesome news for your dd. My son’s in industrial engineering. He had his last final today. Not that easy and bummed it was so hard. I reminded him how lucky he is to have the privilege to suffer through some of these tests ?.
