@milgymfam I don’t know if this is important to your daughter, but we have asked about opportunities for students to set and perform their own work. This has varied a lot between programs.
We also found it helpful to ask what their students do after graduation.
Dean, double major of dance and early childhood ed (downside is needing a separate masters program to teach, but she could work on a temp license or in a daycare while getting one).
Goucher, double major of dance with ed studies, which leads to their 4+1 MAT program (so 5 years of full time study).
Radford, double major of dance and elementary ed (teacher track).
All three tick the boxes for what she’s looking for. All three have a number of levels of ballet and pointe, a minimum of 12 hours of technique per week, and the right amount of performance opportunities for her. Radford’s location and dorms/food situation are the only reasons she hasn’t committed yet, probably. Dean offers a dedicated PT to dance majors and really seems to appreciate the major as a school. Goucher with the 4+1 program is really the perfect opportunity for her as a teacher. Her Goucher visit is tomorrow and Dean in about two weeks. Then I will give her a week to decide (she is better with deadlines, and I’m not waiting till May 1st to lock it down due to needing to get her deferral officially approved).
There are a number of colleges in CT where you can earn a masters in ed for free. You intern in a school during the day, and take classes in the afternoon and evenings. The school benefits by having a sub on a daily basis, and the student has tuition paid. You also gain experience by being around staff and students all day.
Yay! Can I ask what time was the call and what was the number? Mine keeps missing calls from Pace while in rehearsals. Twice this week, two days in a row.
@brightwriter she got the call around 715 she did not answer and her mail box was full. She was then texted from Rhonda to please call back they had good news for her. Which she did and was told of her accptence. I don’t know the number I will check with my daughter and let you know
My daughter is definitely down to her top 3 choices: Radford, Goucher, and Dean. She’s visited the first two and the third’s visit is up in the air, but as of now it’s not canceled. Dean has been very helpful and forthcoming with answering all of our questions thoroughly and patiently in the midst of the all craziness. If you had to pick from these three and only these three, what would be your ordering, and why?
D’s favorite style is ballet, then contemporary, then modern, then hip hop, then jazz. She’s never done tap or African. She will dance roughly the same hours at all three schools. All three offer pointe and variations. None perform full ballets (sad face).
Good luck with your final decisions… especially with some of the schools cancelling visit days and accepted student days. My DD finally decided on Towson. My only issue is that out of state tuition. lol
D is down to two. Radford only made the list for their ballet and was a distant third for everything else. She felt she had to let that one go, even though their ballet was exactly how she wanted it to be. So now… two! Whew!
@threegirlpileup I feel like I am behind on posts. Where did your DD end up?
I am excited for my D - we were happy at Towson and she can double major there… but price tag - ugh! They said once you get in you can get more scholarships etc. their instate tuition would be perfect.
So, DS got into his top 2 schools UCI and UCLA!!! We are waiting for one last school, USC next week! Then we can sit down and hash out a final decision, although based on his reaction to the acceptance into UCI I am pretty confident he knows where he is going. We’ll have to see what the financial aid awards look like in April.
