Class of 2028 - Virginia Tech - Waitlist Discussion

University of Colorado, Indiana, Michigan St and JMU. Went to CU yesterday and heading to IU and MSU admitted student days this weekend. Daughter attends JMU (loves it) so my son already has a good feel for that school. Likely CU after an impressive visit yesterday, maybe IU. We will probably remove his name from VT waitlist after these visits. Once he commits, he’s all in and will start on the housing / roommate stuff so no turning back. Good luck to all!

great schools to pick from… what is his major?

thanks. Economics (Arts & Sciences) Direct Business School Admit was a bit out of range for him.

Can someone advise, My D got in JMU Business program, Indiana University Standard Admit, VCU Business program and VT waitlisted. We are debating between JMU vs Indiana Univ Standard admit, if its direct admit we would have chosen IU. Thanks!

theres a good thread called IU Kelley Petition which goes in depth on the risk vs reward with IU Kelley. Take a read. If your son/daughter is competitive and can earn a B or higher fresh year, Kelley might be worth the risk. With that said, everyone I know enjoys JMU…

Please let us know what he decides.

Mine has Penn State UP, UConn, JMU, UDel, Stony Brook. Physics major. Leaning PSU and we’re doing an accepted students day there next week.

Are most schools still requiring deposits by May 1? If so, seems that VT will start to get a clearer picture of the waitlist in the first few days of May, assuming many of the kids on the VT waitlist withdraw from the WL because they are sick of the uncertainty and just want the process finished. I’m hoping we may start to see some movement then.

Most, VT included, are extending out to 5/15

This process is exhausting and expensive traveling to these schools! Good luck on ASD next week. We are heading to UofSC next week, and I’m hoping then that she will make a decision (between Indiana and UofSC, but today she mentioned UDel again). VT was her number one but I don’t feel very confident about her getting off the waitlist. I’m glad we are not alone on trying to decide!

Have you visited Indiana?

Yes, it’s a beautiful campus.

He is attending Indiana! Loved the campus and Red Carpet Day last Friday. Econ manager (non Kelley) Says he wants to go to IU no matter what and will deal w Kelley pathway once there. Good luck to all at VT and all of you finalizing decisions.

Congratulations! It’s great to see others choosing IU. The campus reminds me a bit like VT. Let us know if he ends up getting off the VT waitlist. Should be interesting to see if anyone from this thread does.

Thanks. I’m going to have him removed from it. Every spot counts. He wants to see if he eventually gets in but it’s better to open up a spot for others who are set on VT.

Congrats and best wishes to him.

And thank you for encouraging him to remove his name from the WL. I hope everyone who finds a home elsewhere and is no longer interested in VT will remove their names from the WL.

Thank you! So sad about VT, but we cannot wait anymore… time to look forward. Good luck to everyone else! I’ll be checking in to see if anyone is getting off the VT waitlist.

Congratulations!
