DS had all-state auditions this morning, came home and muttered “terrible” when asked how it went, then spent the rest of the day moping in his room. Turns out he made district honor band and the second round of all-state auditions. Having gone through college applications with both perfectionist and not so perfectionist kids at this point, I highly recommend the latter. Anyway, scales are what tripped him up today, and there are no scales in the second round!
He has his audition date set for UGA. St. Olaf and Macalester decisions before xmas along with Oberlin pre-screen results. I’m very much pushing him to get the last few supplemental essays done before his brother gets home at the end of the week for winter break, so that he can actually take a break, too. Depending on how the EA decisions go, he might add in a couple more safeties, but mostly I think he’s in good shape for the long wait until March (2-4 more auditions in between now and then, too).
Hope we’re all hanging in there as we wait for prescreen results to roll in! I’m waiting to hear from Rice, NEC, Eastman, Carnegie Mellon, UIUC, and the University of Maryland. Fingers crossed for everyone!
Wishing everyone luck and warm thoughts as you await prescreen results! Very excited to follow along with this year’s cohort.
My kid is a 4th year conservatory student this year, no school auditions for us. But I remember the excitement and anticipation like it was yesterday.
Did anyone hear something about prescreening results from Frost (RD - Made program) and/or USC (popular music)?
S24 already got acceptance letters from LoyNo (popular / commercial music), Belmont and CU Denver. Still waiting for the above as well as Berklee (drumset audition), The New School and LACM.
Thank you!
I applied to Frost EA but I got my prescreen result emailed about one week after the deadline, 5:45 on a Friday. You should be hearing later this week I’d guess! Best of luck!
I’m getting anxious about Oberlin Conservatory prescreen news…it seems like other years it came out on 12/17 which would probably mean it comes out on Friday? And it sounds like it comes via email rather than as a portal post?
And Carnegie Mellon not until 1/5 I think? Or maybe they said by 1/5…
Thanks! Its my son, he’s applied for Composition. Do you think I will receive an email along with my son? He also hears from Brown ED Friday night. Eep. A doozy of a night!
If I remember correctly, only the student gets an email. I remember opening it in front of my parents, so I wouldn’t have noticed if they’d gotten one as well. I had auditioned for performance there, but hopefully the timeline is the same. Best of luck!!
Haven’t heard prescreen results exactly but a professor from Carnegie Mellon emailed my daughter (soprano) two days after she submitted prescreens to set up an interview and trial voice lesson. I felt that was a good sign.
